Alaude could tell Lochlann wasn't used to this. That was expected; after all, the guy wouldn't ask to train if he were already used to this. And he wouldn't have... he wouldn't have used such an underhanded move at Alaude before. In any case, the sloppy swing came, and Alaude quickly moved his forearm so that it would stop Lochlann's hand, and then slide and guide it to the side, effectively pushing Lochlann's arm away.

He asked Lochlann to do it again and again a few more times, continuously as much as possible, and each time Alaude would move his arm against the attacks without stopping their momentum, instead redirecting them away from him.

Like slicing through water.

"Are you getting this?" Alaude asked after enough demonstrations. "Don't fight the momentum, redirect it away from you. Imagine the attacks as strong waves. You mustn't fight them or you'll only get in trouble. Slice through them smoothly instead. It's closer to dancing than you'd probably think."

He then dropped his arms. "Your turn."

This was the beginning. Lochlann tried not to feel frustrated. Everyone was bad at something in the beginning. It's not like anyone could just become an expert at something on the first try.

But he watched Alaude block his swings over and over again, and Lochlann eventually stopped for a moment to cover his mouth to cough.

That description of the waves and water made sense to Lochlann. It clicked suddenly.

"Okay," Lochlann said. He got back into the stance and braced himself. He was ready for this. Sort of. He was at least ready to land on his ass again.

Unlike what Lochlann would probably expect though, Alaude didn't immediately go for a hit. Instead he nodded, and grabbed Lochlann's hands and arms to adjust his position better. And then he told him, "We'll try it slowly first. Do what I did." And then, Alaude moved his arm towards Lochlann from the side. It looked like an attack, but was too slow to actually be one. So more than something dangerous, Alaude's movement might have looked like an elegant stroke of the arm in the air.

And Lochlann was supposed to respond by redirecting it away.

Lochlann flinched when Alaude reached and adjusted his hands. He'd been braced for the hit that didn't come, and now, he was even more on edge. When the other man said he was going to do it slow, Lochlann wasn't sure what slow was to Alaude.

Lochlann followed though.

The water motions made sense. He reached up, managed to mirror Alaude's actions and felt a small surge of excitement, then guilt at being excited for something so simple. You're an idiot, he reminded himself.

Alaude's motion was slow. It did remind him of dancing. Which prompted Lochlann to ask a question without thinking.

"Did you go out dancing the night before we kissed?" he asked.

"I don't dance," was Alaude's immediate reaction that might have come too abruptly to sound innocent. It was true though, he didn't dance; he didn't like to dance, and no he wasn't dancing the night before they kissed.

Alaude might have reacted that way more because of the reminder of their kiss. He wasn't sure about Lochlann, though the guy seemed unfazed by it, but Alaude was different. He was secretly embarrassed, he always has been, and he hated it.

He hated it, so he suddenly sent a swift chop under Lochlann's arm, right on his ribs.

"Focus, will you. I'll go faster."

And so he began to move on a normal pace, not quite as quick and dangerous as that chop just now, but quick enough to land hits on Lochlann's openings if the guy wasn't alert enough.

Alaude's answer came a little bit too fast. Lochlann may have been drinking, but he wasn't drunk, not right now, so he caught on.

He managed to counter maybe a third of Alaude's blows. The rest came crashing into him and he did his best to shrug off the pain, but after a certain point, Lochlann was missing more and more. He was over thinking it, which Alaude would most likely be able to tell with his experience.

"I don't believe you," Lochlann said, and suddenly, he recognized where one of Alaude's blows was going to land. He reached out with his own hand, and instead of countering, he moved with the motion and brought himself close to Alaude, looping one hand around the other man's lower back in a dancing stance.

"Do you waltz?" he asked, his breath a little bit husky from the movements. "Or are you the kind of guy who likes all the grinding in the clubs?"

Lochlann hesitated and then couldn't stop himself.

"Or maybe, maybe the real reason you were so cranky is because you thought you were going to do a very different kind of dance, the kind you do in bed with someone," Lochlann mused. "And my guess is you got turned down."

Alaude's eyes visibly widened when his attack was turned into a dance position instead. The fact that Lochlann managed to actually counter him was a good thing, sure, but to do this?? It was not pleasant at all, and the closeness between them yet again managed to bring out a flustered pink on Alaude's face.

He wanted to say something. He wanted to do something, anything, but what Lochlann was saying was beyond something his dishonest self can take, and the fact that he was partially guilty didn't make it any better. He didn't know how to counter this kind of attack. And when he didn't know, he usually went for the most effective tactic to get away.

Being in the waltz position, with his waist held by an arm so close, didn't exactly give him a good opportunity to do that effective tactic. For a moment, Alaude felt stuck.

Feeling stuck was a bad thing. But fortunately, Alaude didn't let himself panic. He stopped, and he looked Lochlann deadly in the eye as he breathed in deeply. And then he swung his free arm over Lochlann's collarbone area, and in one quick movement pushed him down.

Alaude fell with him, but at least he was on top.

"Are you testing my patience?" he asked, whispered, his face so close to Lochlann's and his eyes staring deep into him. That's when Alaude noticed something around Lochlann's neck, something... hard? sharp? He quickly got up and pointed at its general direction. "What's that under your shirt?"

Lochlann noticed Alaude didn't actually answer his question.

Which was interesting.

Either he didn't want to humor him, which was very and highly likely, or Alaude didn't answer him because one of the things Lochlann said might have been the truth.

Lochlann could not explain why he was so determined to find out. If Alaude asked him, right now, why Lochlann wanted to know, he wouldn't be able to answer. His own desires were an enigma to himself.

He wasn't surprised to wind up on the ground, but he was surprised when Alaude was so close, his mouth inches away from his own.

"How am I supposed to counter this?" Lochlann grinned. Then, he winked. "Because I can think of a few days."

What Lochlann did not expect was Alaude noticing his necklace. His hand went to it automatically and touched the chain to make sure it was still beneath his shirt.

"It's nothing," Lochlann said, his tone light and casual. It would have been convincing to anyone other than Alaude, probably.

Even if it really was nothing, Alaude was indeed suspicious. What's more, Lochlann actually had something he minded on himself, something he minded enough to quickly hold it the moment Alaude had asked.

Interesting. What more secrets did Lochlann have on him, Alaude wondered; were they going to be as bad as murder?

Alaude might have stiffened a bit remembering that. Still, it was nothing more than a weapon of his own in case Lochlann was going to play with him. On that note, Alaude decided to poke around some more. "It's obviously not nothing," he then said. He stood up and crossed his arms, though his eyes remained where the necklace peeked a little. "Take it off, it might cause some trouble. Take it off and put it away or I will."

Lochlann hesitated.

Alaude had him trapped. If he didn't take off the necklace, Alaude would. If he took it off, it would just confirm that it wasn't nothing.

Lochlann narrowed his eyes at the man for a moment, trying to determine his attentions. Alaude wouldn't know what it was. Hell, Loch only told Addy recently. It was just that, after having his necklace be in someone else's hands for so long, Lochlann was really reluctant to let it out of his sight.

After another moment of hesitation, Lochlann picked himself up off the ground. He pulled the necklace up over his head. It was a simple thing, a piece of clear glass or crystal on a silver chain. Lochlann carried it over and hung it off a tree branch near Alaude's bike, at eyelevel, so there was no chance of him forgetting it.

With the damned thing off, Lochlann felt more like himself. Maybe Alaude would notice the difference. It was like focusing a camera, where the picture had been good before, but now Lochlann was a little bit sharper, a little bit more in focus. He was his most magnificent when he was wet, but Lochlann was determined not to allow that to happen.

He cast a quick glance towards the lake in the distance. it was calling to him even now, but Lochlann ignored it.

"Okay," he said "I think I've got it. Can you try me again?"
