"Come along now children, one at a time." Samantha smiled as she led a line of children out of the school building. School had just let out, and Samantha did what she normally did. Once the day was over, she took the kids out to the playground to play while they awaited pickup from their parents.

She loved this time of the day, and so did her kids. It was like a second recess! The playground filled with the sounds of children playing, their happy yells and shouts filling the air. Samantha stood back, smiling. She glanced to the side, and frowned slightly.

She could have sworn she saw something moving, but it was probably her imagination.

The racket being made by the children would often act as a deterrent to Lonelies, them typically preferring solitude at this time in the day. Every so often though, the noise would draw one of the more curious Lonelies out of hiding, and they would wander the playground like any of the toddlers, except their parent was the forest.

In this case, it was an older female Lonely that had crossed onto the playground. It was an older specimen, so it was about a full foot in height, and it's pinkish fur was slightly longer and fluffier. Currently it had become fascinated with the rubber balls lined up on a rack near the building. It clutched it's poofy tail as it examined the spheres, poking at them occasionally with one of it's fingers.

The kids continued to run around, enjoying a lovely game of tag on the playground proper. None were using any balls, so the Lonely went unnoticed for the time being.

After about a half hour, the last child was picked up, and Samantha made her rounds about the playground to put up the toys the children had left out. This is when the woman noticed the Lonely, poking at the balls. She approached slowly, and kept her distance as she crouched down.

"Hey there little one, what might you be up to?" She asked, her voice's soft and relaxing tones drifting through the air.

The Lonely had begun to try and get a ball off of the rack, but was of course having trouble since the toy was approximately the same size as it. It turned around and looked at Samantha when she addressed it, her soothing voice temporarily overriding the instinct to duck and hide.

"aaaahh..." It made a small wondering noise as it slowly reached up and pulled down it's cap for protection. Then seemed to realize that this was necessary and peeked out again. "Nyam." It got back up and pointed at the balls, setting it's tail down in front of it so it could squish the rubber with both it's hands.

Samantha smiled, laughing as the little creature made some noises. "Did you want to play with a ball little one?" She stood up to go move closer, kneeling down next to the Lonely.

"Hmm, Those might be a little big for you...But how about I get you a little gatorball?"

She was referring to the squishy foam balls that the kids used when they played dodgeball. They were smaller than the balls the Lonely was currently playing with.

The Lonely just picked up it's tale again and stared at Samantha as she laughed. It liked her voice, a lot, and it just wanted to listen to it.

It tilted it's head and squinted a little, like it was trying to understand what she was saying but wasn't succeeding. One of it's hands slowly raised up and touched it's chin. "Nanba?"

It seemed satisfied that it had replied in something of a proper manner, and just nodded. "Mmn." It took a couple steps closer to Sam, then just stared at her as it clutched it's tail.

Samantha reached over to pat the Lonelies head softly. She laughed again as she continued to pat the small creature.

"Hmm, Maybe I should just show you." She said after a minute.

Slowly, Samantha reached over and held her hands out for the Lonely to step onto them. Once the Lonely was on her hands, she stood up. Then she went into the school, taking the Lonely to the indoor gym. She set it down, and then went and got a tennis ball and a gopherball.

The kindergarten teacher set the balls down in front of the Lonely.

The Lonely made cute, pleasant grumbling noises as it was patted, hugging it's tail close to it's body. The Lonely tilted it's head when she spoke again and stared at her hands for a few moments, before timidly stepping onto them. It wobbled around a little as it was moved, but recovered by falling into Samantha's chest and holding on while they were in transit.

"Oooooo..." It squirmed around to look at all the things as Samantha walked it into the building, curious about everything, but not wanting to get dropped it stayed latched onto her shirt.

Once it was set on the ground again, the Lonely looked at the big room they were in. It bent other to rub a hand all over the polished floor and was just absorbed in fascination until the balls were set in front of it. It walked over and sat down, picking up the tennis ball and trying to squish it in it's hands. Failing to squish the ball satisfactorily, it settled for banging it against the against the floor a few times, then getting excited and doing it some more.

After a little bit, it realized Samantha was still there and held up the tennis ball. "Nanba?"

Samantha lightly rubbed the Lonelys back as it clung to her shirt. It did have very soft fur. She moved slowly as she walked, seeing that it was curious about its new surroundings.

The teacher laughed lightly when she saw it bounce the tennis ball, the green orb bouncing on the hard floor. Shellie took the ball, and bounced it herself.

"Nanba...Is that your name?" She asked, before pointing at herself. "Samantha."

The Lonely made pleasant grumbling noises whenever Samantha petted it, it was a nice things that it liked.

The fluff ball stared up at Samatha as she bounced the ball and stated her name, utterly and equally fascinated with both of these things. Nanba pressed a hand to it's chin as it pondered, before pointing at Sam and trying to imitate the word. "Sanyum?"

It seemed satisfied with this and picked up the other ball to hand it to Samantha. "Sanyum!"
