A light breeze ruffled the multicolored leaves. The last of them desperately tried to cling onto trees, but they would eventually be pulled off the branches before settling into a large pile along with their other fallen brethren. The grass, stiff and damp, was barely visible beneath the blanket of rust.
Despite the dying environment, it wasn’t yet freezing, and before the winter months began and the cold set in, Lucia wanted to enjoy a little picnic. Bundled up in a bright red scarf, she sat on her picnic blanket laid out evenly in the grass. In the center of the blanket was the basket. It was stuffed full of a variety of snacks she made for the occasion.
She chewed on a perfectly triangular sandwich while observing the people around her. It looked like Lucia wasn’t the only one who decided to take advantage of the nice day. A couple skipped stones in the pond, an old woman sat on a bench, feeding the birds, and others wandered around the park admiring the scenery. With a sigh, she leaned back. Nothing could interrupt this serenity.
