A light breeze ruffled the multicolored leaves. The last of them desperately tried to cling onto trees, but they would eventually be pulled off the branches before settling into a large pile along with their other fallen brethren. The grass, stiff and damp, was barely visible beneath the blanket of rust.

Despite the dying environment, it wasn’t yet freezing, and before the winter months began and the cold set in, Lucia wanted to enjoy a little picnic. Bundled up in a bright red scarf, she sat on her picnic blanket laid out evenly in the grass. In the center of the blanket was the basket. It was stuffed full of a variety of snacks she made for the occasion.

She chewed on a perfectly triangular sandwich while observing the people around her. It looked like Lucia wasn’t the only one who decided to take advantage of the nice day. A couple skipped stones in the pond, an old woman sat on a bench, feeding the birds, and others wandered around the park admiring the scenery. With a sigh, she leaned back. Nothing could interrupt this serenity.

And so it was that the universe immediately sought to correct that assumption, as a flaming portal erupted in the air, spewing out a large armored figure who fell and landed on his knees. The figure had charred knightly armor, and looked as though unusually reddish flames emenated from various points of the armor. The knight looked back up at the portal in the sky as a sword with three swirled blades landed point down in the dirt next to him. The man grabbed the sword and promptly attempted to throw the sword towards the portal. But the portal closed again by the time the sword reached it, causing the sword to come falling point first back at the man.

The man caught it before it was to pierce his helmet, holding it at his side. He let out what sounded like a frustrated growl and promptly kicked the dirt at his feet in annoyance. After about a minute standing there, he began to look around. It seemed he was back on earth again, yet another attempt by the demons of Hell to rid themselves of him. It definitely looked different again, he didn't quite remember the buildings being so tall last time he was here.

He could see a demon or two doing various things he thought he'd never see demons do. They were....fishing, and walking a dog. Normally he would immediately give chase to slay them regardless, but decided that since he was back on earth and they weren't doing anything obviously demon-like he'd let them live a while longer for now. For now, he would simply rest as it were. He stalked over to a tree and sat with his back against it. There was a girl on a picnic blanket close by but he hoped he hadn't disturbed her or something. He reached into a small pouch on his waist and took out what looked like a smoking pipe. He poked the pipe through one of the open slits in his helm and gave it a puff as he rested.

Meanwhile, Lucia’s jaw was hanging loosely as she stared at the horizon where the portal disappeared. As strange as Manta Carlos was, it wasn’t everyday a portal spit out a mysterious entity in the middle of the park. For a few moments, she simply gazed at the scene. When she caught herself staring at nothing, she closed her mouth and shook her head. Her eyes then moved to the flaming creature itself. From its hellish armor, exuding tendrils of fire, to the multi-pronged sword, every fiber of her being should have been screaming Danger! Get away!

“Hello, there! Care for a picnic?” She shouted, waving her arms above her head and smiling. The being didn’t pose any immediate threat, and it looked lonely, leaning against the isolated tree--So, the obvious course of action was to invite it over! The appetizers she prepared weren’t going to eat themselves.
