Diane moved his hand to her waist. He had seen people dance like this but never actually done it himself. He thought this was what couples would do, not people who only just met. His half smile stayed present on his face as he listened to her. "Oh, what sort of business are you in?" he inquired. It seemed strange that she could only find work in certain places; thoughts of what she could do for a living ran through his head. "I've only been here a couple of days myself," he started. "I still can't get my head around this place." The island and everything on it was a lot to get his head around; magic, vampires, cyborgs. All of that was just fantasy not too long ago and now they were all real.

Shujinkō was here not for pleasantries, but for a job. His client had requested his accompaniment to the Masquerade, but since arriving his client had asked him to make himself scarce. Do perimeter sweeps, he had been told. As if threats to his client would come from outside, rather than in the ballroom full of masked people. Still, he complied.

Still, the ball had afforded Shujinkō a rare opportunity. Wearing a full face mask had seemingly dampened his hated power. So that was a plus. He wore formal business attire with the featureless white mask. Nowhere near as flashy as most of the people here. But he had never been one to stand out in a crowd if he could help it.

Doing his third sweep around the outside of the building, Shujinkō turned a corner and saw a pair of people standing at one of the windows. His training kicking in, he put a hand into his jacket pocket and approached slowly. He didn't have a firearm, they weren't allowed on the school grounds. But pretending he did could make all the difference in the world.

Calling out to the pair, a blonde woman with what looked to be leaves in her hair and a child that was clearly not human, he stopped a good thirty or so feet away.

"Hello? What are you two doing out here?"

"Yes, the school is amazing," he chuckled, "I mean, where else do you have the chance to study magic?" He smiled, "it's no problem at all." Slowing the dance to a stop, he gave her his arm and lead her to a chair, grabbing a drink, he offered it to her, "thank you, I really enjoyed the dance."

He took a seat beside her, "have you thought about learning any magic?" the young man asked, curious about what she thought of the idea. "People always look at magic like the films and books show, fireballs and all that," he grinned a bit, "truth is, magic has so many applications in day to day life. Like in those bakeries you mentioned, some of the bakers here know heat manipulation magic, they never have to check the oven because there controlling it's heat."

Diane smirked lightly before she gave a small laugh, "As far as anyone else knows, I own a nightclub and bar, Devils Whispers," She said giving a little sigh before she looked around, noticing some pair of eyes staring at her before she goes back to the person in front of her, bringing her arms up to around his neck, "I'll tell you more if I get to know your first name," She said giving a mischevious smirk towards him, "But you shouldn't try too hard to understand this place, I'm an example of it. I mean, undoubtedly everyone here has some sob story about why they're here, me? I was government experiment that was supposed to be the ultimate kill weapon," She said nonchalantly without batting an eyelash as she looks over his shoulder again to see the person staring at her before gone.

Eek was a little confused. He didn't really know much about other fae having spent most of his time completely on his own. And he had no clue about slaves or status or why this strange lady was calling him sir. "Am not not sir. Am not Eek."

He forgot to explain that he was lying and that she was too far away to see the little paper sign tied around his neck with string. He'd gotten someone at the school to write "Eek has to lie" on the sign for him so he didn't have to keep explaining.

"Why you not go inside eat food? What is low status?" He was only staying outside because he was hunting bugs. He still didn't realize there was a party going on that might have had a dress code.

Eek was neither guilty about being outside nor any more nervous than he usually was around people, so his answer from where he was sitting on the branch was calm and honest as he could be. "Am not just hunting bugs. Not lots better outside."

Then the baby-fae noticed where the stranger's hand was and with a squeak of terror he bolted higher up into the tree. Generally, people put their hands in their pockets to shoot him. It didn't matter that no one had done so since he'd arrived on this island - he still remembered. The boy huddled high up in the tree, trying to make himself inconspicuous as possible, clutching his tail like a lifeline.

Orion slipped into the ball, Amelia on his arm. He'd never really been a party goer, even now that he could finally associate with people without hiding his eyes. That said, a ball like this seemed to suit him, he could already tell he was going to enjoy it. His glowing eyes looking over everything.

He turned to the girl on his arm and smiled, "looks like quite the event," chuckling a little, he lead her toward the dance floor. "You look amazing by the way," he said, leading her into a slow dance.

Amelia entered the extravagent room, her hand on her boyfriend's arm. Her golden, wavy hair draped down her back with two strands from the side of her head secured at the back with an ornate, silver hair pin. She wore a bit more makeup than she usually would but nothing that was too noticable. Most of her face was concealed by a silver mask with blue patterning, matching her jewellery. A pale pink dress fitted her top half, accentuating her figure, whilst it flowed down from her waist in layers, still slim in shape. She had decided to wear her charmed necklace that glowed a brilliant blue colour, making her completely tangable. It always made her feel heavier and was, at times, an inconvenience but she decided it was probably necessary at an event like that.

Admiring the decoration of the room, she gasped: "Yeah, it looks beautiful." This was her type of event, she loved getting dressed up and dancing. "Thank you, you don't look half bad yourself," she joked whilst straightening his bow tie and landing a gentle kiss on his cheek, a smile constantly across her face.

That sounded intriguing. 'As far as anyone else knows'. Did that mean that her job description wasn't the whole truth? "Ace! Perhaps I should go there sometime," he said, gently swaying with her. Diane still insisted for a name, to which he merely smiled. Revealing his identity would ruin the mystery of the evening and it would just be like every other regular event. "Oh wow. I'm sorry, I guess?" He couldn't get a reading on her opinion of her reason for being on the island, her face keeping them a secret. Noticing her gaze travelling over his shoulder, he turned to see what she was looking at. Turning back, he asked, "Is everything alright?"

Diane sighed lightly, before she smiled, or at least tried to with the mask covering half her face, "Well, I guess it is, my job as far as I can say isn't too safe, usually involves me getting shot at a lot, or my bar being trashed," She said nonchalantly with the same tone as she had with her backstory. She quickly noticed the position she was in and a pink hue climbed onto her cheek as she let out a breathless sigh.

"I'm not used to this..." She said averting her gaze as she gave a look around the room for Elisa, who was chatting some poor fellow up. She looked back up the stranger before she quickly looked down at her self noticing her clothes once again, a push-up bra jogging shirt with black jeans, she looked up at him giving an awkward laugh, "I'm truly dressed for the occasion as you can see," She said making a small joke with him.

Charlene did not seem particularly phased by Eek’s speaking pattern. She had met other Fae who were similar, so she nodded in complete understanding as he spoke.

But then there was another voice. Charlene stiffened, quick to leap up and find the source. That man was not a Fae. She stared at him for a moment like a deer in headlights, then she attempted to run.

It was a bad choice, she soon realized. She was exhausted from hardly eating the past several days. She was slow, sluggish, and starting to get dizzy as she tried to exert energy she didn’t have.

She had a very brief burst of speed--then her legs gave out and she collapsed.
