The change of inflection in his voice swept straight over the Somni's head. Aimouryllice wondered if he wanted to die out here since he didn't seem to be in that big of a hurry to get inside, but then it made her question why he would've asked for help if he just wanted to freeze to death anyways. Maybe he wanted to somehow sabotage her by pinning his death on her and make the humans think she had something to do with it?

...No, that'd be dumb.

"Am lost too," she said after he finished with his really long sentence. "I amn't good with 'die-rek-shuns'. Am from human place of education. You know who sleep rooms are? Can not find. How open 'dorse'? Human show, but is hurting hand when try."

The little lady of 4'8 then crouched down, grabbed an armful of snow, and tossed it at Thievenne's face. That should wake him up.

"Oh, yeah," Ven said. He rubbed his face with his hand--his hand, he had fingers, not paws, remember that Ven, remember-- and nodded slowly. "The dorms. The residence halls. That's where I'm going. When we get back, I'll take you there."

Did that mean that she was close to his age? Maybe?

Ven was so cold and all he wanted was--

FUCK.

"WHAT THE HELL," he yelped as the snow hit him in the face. He was shivering even harder, but now he stuttered, unable to find the proper amount of rage.

"Oh my god I swear to everything that is...that is something, Aimouryllice," Ven muttered, but it did the trick, and he was stumbling in the direction of the school again.

Ven was not a violent person, but Aimouryllice was driving him insane.

"If you throw snow at me again I will dump you back into the ocean," he threatened, which might have sounded more menacing if his teeth were chattering so bad.

ooc: a quick heads up! I'm not making an official coming & going post since i'll be around, but my posts are going to slow down for the next couple days. I'm going back up north to the Land of Bad Internet and I'm not sure how much access I'll have!

"Do not know word, 'the-ell'. I can not answer," Aimouryllice said while she brushed clean her hands. She would never admit it aloud, but she was a little glad (in her own Vox Somni way) that he was acting a bit more lively now and stopped being so worryingly slow.

His threat somehow managed to have the total opposite effect, filling her with excitement rather than fear. She actually considered picking up more snow. "You will? I like that much. Can go find my people if in water. I tell my people much of Thievenne, and his help. If help, maybe not tell them you ugly."

"...No, will tell you ugly. Can not say lie."

Aimouryllice did her best to keep up with him, her kimono still dragging in the snow. "Thievenne, you is--are..." She paused, searching her mind for the right human word. "You are not...mind ugly. You are mind pretty." ...English was such a frustrating language. How could she possibly put it so that he understood her despite her choppy speaking?

"No colors....not good. Much colors...pretty. Much life with much colors. You are like much colors. You have lots. You are know what say?"

Ugh. There she was with the ugly bit.

"It's a good thing I don't have self-esteem issues, you know," Ven sniffled, rubbing his nose on the back of his arm. His teeth were still chattering. She was making him a little bit paranoid; he really wanted to find a puddle or something reflective he could check himself in. Was there something on his face? He'd seen the bit of a bruise but was it worse than he thought?

He wrinkled his forehead, trying to stay focused on staying awake, walking, and Aimouryllice's manner of speaking.

"I'm prettier as a wolf, got it," he said, though he wasn't exactly certain if that's what she met. He huffed, "I mean, there are wolves that have lots of different colors, too."

He asked, "What...what colors do your people come in?"

Not the most tactful way to phrase the question but he was mirroring her manner of speaking even as he tucked his hands into his pockets.

"You are not know what say," she said, now even more frustrated that her English was that bad. She made a series of strange noises and teeth-clacks in what could only be assumed as her native language. Her words returned to something he could understand. "Is hard...to find words. Not face pretty--mind pretty. If close eye, see not face, but hear voice."

Aimouryllice swore she was about to explode into shark chunks from grinding the gears of her brain like this. "Thievenne, is good to talk to you. I like it. Much color. Much humans have no color."

To his question, she said without much hesitation, "All color. Vox Somni have much colors--red, blue, poo-ple, yilow, orge, greeng. More, but I know not words for other colors. Vox Somni is much pretty race. We are color. Humans..." She trailed off, getting the feeling that he already got it without her having to say it again.

Just about all humans were butt ugly to her. They all looked the same, too; it was proving to be a difficult time, trying to study the differences in faces and memorize the specific features of one person in order to identify them as unique to another.

"I draw you picture of my people. If not want, then draw for me."

His....voice? Or his manner of being?

Ven wasn't sure. He was tired, and it was much harder to figure out when she was complimenting him than when she was telling him he was ugly. He almost preferred that because, at least, it didn't give him as much of a headache.

or maybe it was caffeine withdrawal.

He wanted a coffee bad. Ven stumbled again, but he picked himself up, tucking his bright red hands back into his pockets yet again.

"You draw?" he asked, wondering if he was to understand that literally. "Do you paint, too?"

They had to be getting close now, he thought. His first most immediate thought was THANK GOD, but he was also going to be a bit sad to have this frustrating and kind of mean old lady in a young fish person's body leave him.

"I don't know how to draw, but I think I might start," he admitted. He said, "Do you have any family?"

"...I will say when know much good words."

"Yes. I draw. ...Not know word, 'paint'. At home, I draw much. To draw is good for lead my people. I know to read, write, too. In my language. Is hard in English. Try learn, but is long time learn."

Aimouryllice curved closer in her path and wrapped her fingers around Thievenne's forearm. She attempted to pull the one hand from his pocket, still determined to at least try and help warm him up. Were she to succeed, she'd shove his hand in her sleeve and sandwich it between her arm and her abdomen; were she to not succeed, well, she'd just try again.

She caught a glance of her hair in her attempts and clacked her teeth with distaste. It had begun at her shoulders when she'd met the white wolf, and now it was to her elbows. So quick did it grow that she had to chew on it so often just to keep it tame. Were she in the ocean she would've let it grow out as much as it wanted, but wet hair was so much easier to manage than dry hair.

Her attention was drawn from the thought of ravaging again the inky black locks until they were as short as her teeth could reach.

"Fah-mill-ee?" she sounded out, trying to recall what that word meant. After several seconds, she said, "My people are my fa-mi-ly. All. Other tribes, too. I want good, for all. I amn't like stay here, when my people amn't here. I want...to find my people. They are lost."

"When to human structure of education? You are know?"

"Oh," Ven said, and then, because he wasn't thinking, he accidentally made an offer. "Well, I would be happy to work with you in improving your English, if you want. I'm not a teacher or anything but I helped out my brother a lot when he was just learning."

Ven did not realize that he just gave himself up to seeing the frustrating Vox Somni again if she wanted.

And...she was...eating....her....hair.

Okay, whatever, Ven wouldn't judge. He bit his nails. Maybe she was trying to leave a trail of hair like breadcrumbs, a la Hansel and Grettle style.

"Oh," Ven said again, trying to make sure he was following. Then, he asked to clarify, "Are all your people lost or just you? Are they lost on land, too?"

He glanced at the trees, which seemed to be thinning and said through his chattering teeth, "We should be getting there soon, I hope."

(ooc: want to have them arrive in another post or two?)

Just a little nibble. There was far too much hair to be giving herself a hair-chew outside the privacy of her own slumber quarters.

Aimouryllice shoved her obnoxiously long hair back behind her shoulders and turned her unblinking stare up to Thievenne.

"You are help learn human English?" She was silent for several moments, then said, "Yes. O-K. Maybe help learn much soon than educators. They make read easy color books for human babies. Is rude." She considered pulling the colorful children's picture book from her kimono to show him, but she decided not to; he wouldn't be interested anyways. Humans were a very uncaring species. "You want 'dorm' symbols? You give your symbols? How is find if always lost?"

"All is lost. Are lost. Humans take home, send to....human cities? ....Do not know. To dry earth. Do not know where are. Do not know if my people O-K. Humans make stay here; say I can not go to find my people." Aimouryllice's lips parted to voice her desire to go find them, but she decided not to; this was another human after all. If she told him, he'd just stop her like all the others.

Aimouryllice slowly focused her gaze on the approaching treeline. Words escaped her briefly as she plotted her future escape. A question tickled at her mind that she hadn't thought to ask before.

"....Thievenne. Why you are in cold trees? You maybe die, but are here. . .Why?"

(( OOC: Sure, if you want to :B ))

"
Oh, that must be frustrating,” Ven said.

This was something he could relate to: work that was supposed to help you catch-up and build strengths but was unfortunately remarkably condescending. Aimouryllice was clearly intelligent enough to speak English and whatever language her people spoke, so it made sense that she had an adult vocabulary. Ven himself rather enjoyed learning from picture books, but understood that something for babies was not something you should give to…

“How old are you, anyway? Do your people count years like humans or do you have another way to measure time?” Ven chattered.

His face hurt from the cold and the snow that dripped beneath his shirt collar when she threw it at his face was melted enough to be comfortable now. He adjusted it and the pushed his hands back deep into his pockets.

His phone was missing. He hoped it would turn up soon, or he’d have to put in all new numbers.

“A word we use in English is very,” Ven said. “You say ‘much soon’ but very would be a better way to explain it to a human. The two words are very similar, but much is more of a quantity, like how much of something there is. There is much snow, not there is very snow. Does that make sense?”

Ven had no idea if it did or not. He was thinking about what it must be like to be here and not know where his family was, if they were all scattered around the land. There were a lot of students who didn’t know where their families were, but that didn’t make it any less sad.

Ven was still puzzling out dorm symbols.

“Like my room number?” he asked, trying to clarify. Her question caught him offguard. Ven was quiet for a moment and he said, “I thought I could do something by myself. I almost always need to be around other people, just so something like this doesn’t happen.”

He meant disappearing into the woods to go for a short walk without taking someone with him to watch his body incase he fell asleep.

“I think the snow on the branches of trees is pretty,” Ven said.

He thought about asking her if she had a phone and hesitated. Would it be stupid to ask her? Or rude to assume that she didn’t?

They were almost there. The silhouette of the school was visible beyond the thinning trees.
