"Oh god no," Jude said with a wave of his hand. "Not even close." Did people really think that about him? Apparently they did. "I was firmly middle of the class. I didn't really have many friends, and I definitely didn't date anyone. I felt like it was... disingenuous to even try. Like, I didn't want to be friends with someone, but have to constantly lie to them and hide things. My dad wanted me to be used to blending in, so mostly I did that."

Which probably sounded silly to others, but that had been his life for a long time. Blending in was important. Being able to vanish in the crowd.

It was not to have to not.

"Being here was the most popular I've ever been."

"...Really?"

Lots of surprises here tonight. Not only was Angelo actually interested in him in a romantic sense, but he hadn't been that popular in Halcyon? That's crazy talk. Although everyone seemed to change drastically once crossing over. Gabe seemed to loosen up and maybe Angelo didn't have to blend in as hard with all the crazy things going on. Xavier was still the same, though. Just kinda goofy. Good guy, but definitely goofy.

"Well, how are you enjoying your newfound popularity? I can imagine it's a little stressful. But I promise not to hold you on some kind of pedestal or anything weird like that." Gabe could only grin, teasing the teen just a little bit.

Jude let out a small laugh, rolling his eyes at that.

"It's not so bad. I kind of had an idea of it back when I was... well, Jude-the-Junior-Sentinel. But that was kind of different, since I was always behind a mask. I guess I'm adjusting alright here? But part of that is just... uh, tradeoff. I'm not sneaking out at night to go stop bank robberies anymore. Now I'm making plans and going to movies and all that. Honestly, the worst part is trying to make sure no one feels... neglected, or anything. Balancing everyone out."

Dating two people was probably not the best plan for that, but Jude was kind of jumping in feet first, wasn't he?

"I figure you probably had a lot of friends back at home. Popular in school, right?"

Gabe shook his head, giving a faint smile in response to the question. "You'd be wrong. I could name the number of friends I had on one hand. Condor was my closest friend; the two of us were like brothers and I honestly could say that I would have given my life for him if the situation called for it." He chuckled. "Although, to be fair, he'd probably have done the same so we'd just both be dead in a pointless 'no, let me be the martyr' moment."

Carefully reaching up and wiping his teeth with his finger before wiping his hand into a napkin, he shifted in his seat. "Plus, like I said, tree who eats meat wasn't exactly welcome at parties. But it was fine. I took care of my family, those I cared about were safe. All that mattered to me. It was... a little lonely, but I don't regret the choices I've made up till this point."

The look on his face, however, held less belief in that statement.

They were the same, in that. They said they were happy with their lives before, but their actions said otherwise. They both had things they wish they could have fixed, and now they were there, in Manta Carlos, with that option.

"So. You said you were going into botany, right? And your mom was going to open a flower shop? Any other plans for Manta Carlos?"

"I'm not sure, really. I mean, just... hang out? Make friends? Although I guess the most recent thing I'm interested in is some handsome g-guy who asked me out on a d-date." Gabe had attempted to play it cool, but he did not. He did not in the slightest. With a small sigh of defeat, he slumped his head down on the table next to his half-eaten sandwich. Why must he try to be suave when he does not need to be? Was he that desperate to impress someone who had already asked him out on a date? The teen didn't know how many godlike beings were on this island, but he quietly prayed for one of them to just blank this moment out of his memory.

"...What about you? Any fun plans that don't involve making yourself look like as much of an idiot as I seem to be doing?"

There was definitely an attempt at keeping it cool, but Gabe was not doing so well. Jude was doing a bit better, but only by virtue of the fact that he was, in many ways, flying high. He'd asked. He'd expected a no. He'd got a yes.

He was two for two.

"Uh..." He trailed off for a moment, thinking about things. "I'm really hoping they find Armorer and We The People soon. I like both of them, and I worry, but a part of that is definitely man not having an arm is kind of a pain. It wasn't as hard of an adjustment as I thought considering I didn't have sensation in the old one anyway, but every so often I go to like, cut my dinner and oops, no hand for a knife."

Which was unfortunate.

"I was looking into designing charms that keep auras and other mind stuff from effecting me. The ones on the island are expensive, but I think if I set things up and asked Daniel for help, I might be able to make a rudimentary one."

"I can't even imagine what that's like. I've had 'limbs' damaged or destroyed before," Gabe paused, spawning a little wooden hand from his palm before plucking it out and watching it fade to nothing, "But never like you have. Have you asked around the island about someone who can make you a good prosthetic or even maybe regenerate your arm? With all of the crazy magic in this world, there has to be someone who can help. I'll help you look."

Gabe paused, realizing he had been leaning in as he spoke so excitedly about the magic on the island. He sat back, looking mildly ashamed. "...Sorry. If you want the help, that is. As for the charms, that'd be a cool idea! I don't know if I want to learn actual magic, but it seems like it'd be very beneficial to you. Why the aura blockage, though? Did something happen?"

"Well, I've had a few offers for prosthetic. As for regrowing it..."

Jude winced and reached up, tapping the metal on his neck.

"I'm wary of it, honestly. It can't just be regrown, it has to be instantly regrown, because I'd have to remove the metal to get it to regrow, and if I remove the metal as it is right now I'd bleed out in a few seconds. The explosion severed my jugular vein, and only the metal kept me from bleeding out."

He tipped his head back to show it off more clearly, and if Gabe was familiar with the layout of the veins in the neck, he'd note that one of ht metal patches did go right over the larges vein in the neck.

"Just had an uncomfortable encounter with someone who had an aura. It wasn't bad, but... I used to have Giltenn in my ear going you're under the effect of an aura, but I don't have that anymore. It's easy to miss them sometimes."

"...That makes a lot of sense. I wasn't thinking in-depth on the medical side of it."

Gabe looked a little downtrodden as he spoke. He's getting way too excited and probably making Angelo feel really uncomfortable about the whole 'arm' thing. But he did bring up Giltenn, which was a very nice distraction from Gabe and his ability to place his foot into his mouth. Looking at Angelo's neck didn't make a lot of sense since he wasn't as well-versed in human anatomy, but he trusted his date's word on it.

"...Are there a lot of auras like that? I'm not saying I'm concerned, but... I'm kind of concerned. I suppose if you get the charm to work, could you possibly make me one as well? I don't want to get caught by some crazy demon aura or something then decide that cannibalism isn't the worst idea in the world anymore."
