Aimouryllice a'Phoche still hadn't gotten used to how humans did...well, everything. The schedules were jarring, the organized hallways were baffling, the perfectly symmetrical classrooms had her wanting to rearrange the whole school, and all the lessons and expectations were--well, those were familiar. The 'homework' wasn't, however. She still hadn't gotten the hang of 'raising her hand' whenever she had a question, so she often had to be sat down after class to be explained how things worked around here.

You have to wear your uniform when you go to class.

Don't speak out in the middle of class.

If you have a question, raise your hand.

No, you cannot eat raw fish in the classroom.

No, you cannot wrap your fish in your homework.

Aimouryllice had just been dismissed from one such talk and was now making her way through the hallway with her soggy homework and a raw fish that she never got to eat. Not that she would be able to eat it, anyways. She stuck the fish in one of the folds of her kimono (which wasn't appropriate school attire, apparently) and looked back up towards the other side of the hallway when she thought she spotted movement.

Everything was so fascinating for the young Iraji. For the first time in her life, she was entering a culture she'd observed from afar, but never personally became involved in. Now, she could tell her people she'd been outside their personal world. Now, she could tell them she saw the insides of things like vehicles and man made buildings. To any other race, these would have become customary, necessary, ordinary in their lives. For her, she was still sheltered, still fresh in thought and still naive about many things this island had in store. She wanted to see it all. Unfortunately, for now, she was confined to a more pressing role: a student in a public educational setting.
Pushing open the glass doors to the building, her gaze was glued upward, her slit pupils following the patterns and colors on the ceiling and wondering how they got there. Eventually, her vision returned down to her level when she sensed other people nearby. While many people resembled the men her people spoke of serving all those centuries ago, not all of them had the same features. Some had horns or pointed ears, like her. Some had hair or skin colors she'd never seen on men before. Some, thankfully, weren't human at all, and those individuals she found herself longing to meet. Some were more animal than human, others weren't anything distinguishable. Regardless, a fresh sight was invigorating and exciting for her, and she visibly glowed with anticipation.

Eventually, she came to a large cork board with several things stapled, pinned, or otherwise stuck up there. The ragged slew of information bothered her, since her "Common" still wasn't the best it could have been. She wasn't quite sure what to focus on, and her pupils darted from one sheet of paper to the next. By this point in time, she was alone in the hallway, as everyone who left had places to be and things to do. She looked around at certain points in time, hoping she would find someone to help her.
She stood there, fidgeting, until she thought she heard footsteps down the hall. Turning expectantly, she noticed a human-like girl stop in her tracks. Anxiety resurfacing, she waved fervently to her, pointing at the cork board and hoping the lady could be of help.

"Uhm... Help! Please!" She inwardly cringed at her cracking voice and her unfamiliarity with the English language. Nonetheless, she was lost and needed aid, "Hello! Yes! Help, please!"

There was only a very small handful of times in which Aimouryllice didn't respond to a wave, and this was not one of them. The strange person's frantic waving drove Aimouryllice to take several steps back, and she would have turned and left if not for the person's calls for help. What kind of mixed signals did the people give on this island? 'Go away, go away! No wait, come back, help, help!'. The Vox Somni hoped people would make up their minds soon.

After several moments of staring blankly at the stranger, Aimouryllice approached them but kept a healthy distance when she stopped. And by healthy I mean several feet.

Her lips parted to speak, her shark teeth flashing--then she paused and reconsidered. Once again she had almost spoken at a regular volume, but she remembered that humans were very sensitive when it came to her voice and often told her to be quiet. Very few had ever actually told her that her voice hurt, so it was mostly a mystery to her as to why no one wanted her to speak in anything other than a whisper.

And that was how she spoke--in a whisper. "...You are need help? I help. What is hard...?"

When the young lady walked closer, Anterpas could automatically tell that she was not human. Not in the slightest. Her face was heavily contoured, the focus drawn to her eyes and her eyebrows. Both were dark, bold, and piercingly contrasted by her pale skin. Her hair lay gently around her face, but it was messy, as if attention was never given to it. Interestingly, the Iraji found familiarity between them in their teeth. Sharp and carnivorous, like hers, and Anterpas caught herself wiping her tongue along her own with confirmation. Head tilting, she curiously waited for words to leave the girl's mouth. When she spoke, relief visibly overtook the Iraji's body, and her frantic behavior subsided. The rest of her, though, was thin, almost sickly in appearance, and Anterpas wasn't sure if that was good or bad. In her culture, such a frame was heavily despised and rendered gross. But she also wasn't an Iraji, and therefore couldn't be held to the same standards.
As they observed each other, Anterpas realized that the creature was confused by her actions. If there was one thing she learned about understanding other races, it was to use words first, actions second. Because of this, she turned to face her, but kept her arms close to her body and stood still. Anterpas wanted the girl to understand that she was giving her her full attention, but using her words to communicate. Hopefully, her new approach would transfer over.

"Yes, help," she replied. Remember, -she told herself- no large or sudden movements. "Can't find... Uhhh, can't find..." It was embarrassing to struggle with her words, "Can't find... Remedy? Place for new educated." She shook her head; that didn't sound right at all! It didn't sound anything like how the other students spoke! She longed for the day that she could speak fluent Common. Looking back at the girl, her eyes screamed for some kind of breakthrough. Not sure of what else she could say, she slowly pointed at herself and clarified. "Anterpas Esidar... Greetings."
