Lei nodded. He really shouldn't pry all that much. If he said he was okay, then even though he obviously wasn't, it would be unwelcome for him to try and cheer him up.

He changed to his school clothes. A little sandy, but it was good enough for the trip. He folded the sweater neatly and placed it on the dining table. He took a good hard look at the table before leaving a "Thanks for everything - Lei" post-it on a visible area.

After he was done with that, he locked the front door and boarded Deith's car. "Sorry for the wait."

Deith was already in the driver's seat. The engine was on, car ready to go. "I'll drive you straight to school," he said as he steered the car back to the direction to the city. He didn't have much to say, mainly because he was trying to hold his tongue and thoughts and was trying his best to concentrate on the road.

Lei was starting to really worry. It was an odd thing, watching Deith like this. On one hand, he was obviously not fine and it was probably Lei's fault, but usually Deith made it clear whenever he was angry or offended. On the other, if Deith refused to talk about it, was it really any of his business? He had only known him for a day.

Lei crossed his arms, suddenly feeling he should make himself smaller. They got along so well. What happened?

"Did I do something wrong..." Lei said, so softly it was almost a whisper.

"No," was Deith's immediate answer. He tilted his head to Lei briefly, seeking for the male's eyes so he could see what emotions could be there. But he quickly turned back to the road anyway. "You're okay, Lei. I was just wondering if..." If I can see you again tomorrow. If you actually want me around again. If you'll be different from the people who'll keep on leaving. "...if you're going back to the beach tomorrow. And maybe I could lend you a hand, if ever you need it."

So that was it. He felt a slight tingling in his chest when he thought about how Deith was so distressed at the thought of never seeing him again. Lei wanted to see him too.

Lei's heart was beating fast and he couldn't stop smiling. He looked out the window, feeling like... he should ask... "I-I know you're older than me, but... I-I mean, do you want to do something more interesting than watching me make an ass of myself in the ocean?"

Deith felt a wave of relief hearing that, as if a really strong breeze passed by and carried the heaviness in his heart away from him. They were definitely going to see each other again, at least that's how he understood it. He felt his lips curve upward, and he can't stop it. There was no reason to do so anyway.

"To be honest, I don't mind just watching you be all adorable in the water," he said, laughing softly. "But sure, we can do something else. We can hang out if that's what you mean. I'd love that."

That was more like it.

Seeing Deith smile and laugh made Lei confident again. He didn't really mean 'hang out' so much as 'go on a date', but maybe Deith was just nice and didn't actually... swing in his direction, so to speak. Maybe he misread some signs. That was fine. He didn't have a lot of friends in the first place.

"Right, right." He nodded. "I definitely mean hang out. I'm free tomorrow after class."

In truth, though, it was Deith who couldn't read the signs well. He's never truly liked anyone in this island before, and only hit on people to prey on them. He liked Lei more than any living being he's met in this island, and that emotion towards the male messed him up.

Hanging out truly did sound great. Deith would never expect Lei to want to go on a date with him, so that was the next best thing. Either way, he was surely going to enjoy every bit of it. As long as things go their way.

"What time's that? I could pick you up if you'll let me," he said.

By then they were already back in the city, and Deith was heading straight to the Academy.

"Around five. Don't pick me up at school. I don't want people to think I make a habit of getting picked up by strange men."

The Academy was starting to rear into his view. Time to head out soon.

He really didn't want to go. Hell, he wanted to stay at Deith's place. But that was his life, wasn't it? He never really had a choice in anything. Ever since he was an infant, he was bound by a destiny he couldn't control. Making mistakes was a luxury he couldn't afford.

He just wished...

He sighed.

Deith raised a brow. "Am I that weird to you?" He glanced at a mirror and then checked his clothes and car briefly. He had slightly slowed down his driving since they were almost there anyway. "Hmm... But I look pretty normal, don't I?"
