I really just don't want to be here.

A sigh of relief came out of the boy, and he smiled. His eyes and face were still pale, but at least he seemed a tiny bit happier now. "Can I go see her?" he asked the nurse quietly, not knowing whether he would or not. He hated to see her looking like that, but he couldn't stand to not be by her side during this.

Nurse nodded. "Yes, you can." She told him. She led him to where Mery was laying.

Good, he could go see her! Nicolas followed her to where Mery was laying, and a look of both relief and sadness came over his face. He did hate to see her in this sort of condition, but he was just so happy that she was alive. He walked toward her, and knelt by her bedside, taking her hand in his, being quite gentle. He didn't want to hurt her in the slightest, after all.

"I love you..." he told her softly, unsure if she could actually hear him, but not caring. He just had to tell her.

Mery could vaguely hear a voice. Her eye lashes fluttered and she opened her eyes. "Nic?" She whispered. She squeezed his hand gently.

His eyes seemed to light up when he saw her open his eyes and say his name. "It's me, sweetie," he told her, smiling when she squeezed his hand. He couldn't believe that she had become conscious again, just like that, and all he had had to do was speak. He said nothing more, though, not wanting her to waste her strength with talking to him.

Mery smiled slightly. "All this and I didn't even get a lollipop." She said, hoping he would laugh. He acted so worried. Of course, that sort of thing didn't happen every day...

Just like she had hoped, Nicolas laughed. "I'll go get you a lollipop if you want," he told her with a smile. He would do anything for her, and getting a lollipop counted as anything. He was glad to see that she was talking — he just hoped she wasn't forcing herself to. He would have asked how she was feeling, but he figured the answer was sort of obvious, so he wasn't going to.

Mery laughed softly. She shook her head. "No. I don't want you to leave." She said, her voice a little louder this time.

Nicolas nodded. "I won't leave, then. We'll just get a lollipop when we can leave this place," he told her. He was glad to hear that her voice was louder, and wondered if she was actually feeling better. Well, he decided to ask. "You feeling better?" he asked her quietly.

Mery nodded. "I'm fine, really." She said. Okay, so that wasn't really true. But she wasn't really in pain, thought that was probably from the painkillers. She doubted Nicolas would believe her anyway.
