Adelene received a package earlier today. A delivery guy walked up to her unit at noon and gave her a flat box, and she immediately opened it afterwards, wondering what it might be.

Inside was a silky pink dress, neatly folded, a thin shawl and a pair of flats that go with the outfit. Instantly, she knew it was from Lochlann.

He should've seen her face when she held the dress up in front of her. She stared at it with an expression of slight disgust, confusion, curiosity, nervousness, and excitement all mixed together, especially when she flipped it around and saw the back. Or rather, saw that it had no back. The dress looked okay from the front, except for the fact that it was a few inches lacking to reach her knees; it was sleeveless, but the neckline wasn't too low for her. But from the back, she'd look naked wearing something like this.

"What the fuck is this dress, Lochlann..." she muttered to herself, before dejectedly giving up to the idea that she needed to wear this to honor their deal from their drinking contest. She set it down her bed and checked the other stuff in the package. She saw a note soon enough.

Sierra Madre Hotel, 7PM.
Laters, Baby.

Great. Just great. The dress was going to be really uncomfortable, and things would most likely get worse, with Adelene unable to shake off what happened in the bookstore roof. She wasn't sure she can face him after all that.

As much as he hated formal clothing, Lochlann looked damn good in a suit.

It was fitted and did all the things to him that a nice dress did for a lady. He turned more than a few heads on his way out of his apartment building where he did the unspeakable and waited for the taxi.

He was going to do this.

He was going to get in a car and he was going to take his best friend for dinner. He'd taken something over the counter to deal with his iron allergy and got into the back seat of the car. He couldn't exactly pick her up on horseback, and Sierre Madre wasn't exactly the kind of place you walked to.

So, taxi it was.

Regardless of the way his hands where shaking in the car, Lochlann felt pretty calm. He texted her when he arrived, told the driver to wait a few minutes, and then headed up to her apartment.

He knocked on the door.

It was just dinner with Addy. Nothing had changed, right? He kept telling himself that, but he couldn't help but feel that everything would be different when she opened the door.

This was crazy.

Adelene was long done getting herself ready, but for some reason, she still felt like something was wrong with the way she looked. She was looking at herself in the mirror, trying to find what was wrong. The dress was definitely one. She felt naked even with it on. The end was a few inches higher than her knees, and her back wasn't covered at all. Thankfully Lochlann sent her a shawl, too, or else the wind would be blowing directly on her skin. That hair ribbon on her head was also freaking stupid, but she wore it anyway, because she remembered that Lochlann had said back in their drinking contest that he'd like to see her with it, not because she thought it would make her and the dress look cuter or anything. Nope. Definitely not.

...She couldn't see what else was wrong, but she was really uncomfortable. Her heart was raging, to the point that she could hear her pulse loud against her ears. She was trying to get her breathing steady when her phone rang, and she immediately went to get and read what it was.

Lochlann was coming to pick her up in a few minutes. Quickly, she darted out of the bathroom, grabbing her purse from her bed. She fixed her hair a little more, and little did she know, she's begun pacing around her apartment anxiously.

What the hell was wrong with her? She was so nervous!

There was a knock on her door, eventually. She knew it was Lochlann. She took a heavy breath, before calmly, or seemingly calmly, heading to the door to open it. It was like a suspense movie, the way she gripped the knob anxiously and ever so slowly twisted it, and then the door slightly creaked as she pulled it open.

And then she was face to face with him. And it suddenly felt like her face and whole body was burning, because Lochlann was standing right in front of her, and was looking like a perfect man in that suit, and she was standing in front of him, feeling bare because of the stupid dress. She opened her mouth, but it took a couple of seconds before she can utter a word.

"...H-Hey." Lame greeting. Lame. Fail. Why did Lochlann strike her so? It was, after all, just Lochlann. Her best friend. A man she's always been with. The man... who gave her an amazing kiss under the fireworks...

...This was absolutely embarrassing.

"...I wonder how much money you wasted for this..."

When Addy opened the door and was standing there before him, the first and only thing Lochlaann could say was, "Wow."

He checked her out because wow. He'd never realized how long her legs were, or how big her eyes where, or how her lips looked so kissable. all the better to eat you with his mind autofilled.

Lochlann gave a low, appreciative whistle, and then gave her one of the warmest smiles he had.

"Wow, Addy, you look great," he said. "I swear, when I picked out the dress, I didn't realize it was that short, so please don't kill me! You look amazing though. Wow."

He was blabbering and hadn't really said anything else, so Lochlann shook his head, trying to regain that sense of confidence, of control, that he had when he'd knocked on her door.

"Are you ready for dinner?" Lochlann asked. "I uh, I got a taxi waiting."

"Thanks... You look... you actually look really good yourself, that suit is perfect on you..."

She was definitely burning up. For once, was she actually glad to hear a compliment? Glad to hear that she looked good-- "great"? It wasn't like that exactly, but she was glad Lochlann didn't look or sound disappointed at seeing her in the dress.

She shook her head. She wasn't going to kill him, but she was going to complain all night about the dress. "Why in hell did you pick a backless dress though? I... I f-feel n-naked." And she was so embarrassed to admit that. Unconsciously, she pulled the shawl tighter around her torso, wanting some comfort around her because-- simply because the dress wasn't doing a fine job with that.

She nodded when he asked if she was ready, but she wasn't going to say that she even made sure her stomach was empty so she'd have no trouble eating later. Now THAT was going to be impossible to admit. And then she wrinkled her brows and tilted her head.

"...I thought you didn't like being in cars." Honestly, she hadn't thought of transportation to the hotel, and she was quite surprised after recalling he was... allergic to iron for some reason. Shrugging, she switched off her lights and then stepped out of the apartment, locking the door shut behind her. She didn't realize she heaved a heavy and nervous breath.

"Okay... I'm ready to go."

Lochlann was having a hard time keeping his eyes off of her. When she exited the room, he took a hand to her elbow, touching her like he might a very poisonous but very beautiful flower.

Why in hell did you pick a backless dress though? I... I f-feel n-naked."

He looked at her and furrowed his dark brows. His lips twisted into something of a guilty smirk.

"Do you want the real answer to that? Or the answer you would like better?" He asked.

He would probably end up showing her the real reason before the end of the night. Lochlann couldn't help but feel like they were getting away with something as he walked her down the hall. He had a beautiful girl on his arm, and the weather was going to be rain-free, and this wasn't just any girl he was going to spend a fancy dinner with, it was his best friend.

"...I thought you didn't like being in cars.

"I don't," Lochlann admitted. "But we couldn't exactly walk there, and I couldn't really pick you up on horseback, so it seemed like the best course of action."

He hesitated, then shrugged and admitted to her, "I may have taken an allergy medication, too. I think it might be helping."

When they would reach the doors outside, he'd hold them open for her, and do the same with the doors to the cab, but at some point he would say, "Addy you do remember the amendment to our bet, right?"

He was still thinking Fifty Shades, but surprisingly, Loch wasn't thinking lewd. Well, he was, but not that kind of lewd. More like getting Addy to blush in as many ways as possible. He wanted her to enjoy tonight as much as he was going to.

That was rhetorical, Lochlann's response question about her dress, at least Adelene thought so. She just pouted, letting Lochlann keep close and hold her.

She glanced up at him. Why, for Pete's sake, did she feel like Lochlann just did something that sounded so impossible just to keep this dinner night perfect? Her face burned again, but this time, she could acknowledge that she was just happy. "That's nice. I wish you'd continue that, so next time it rains, we can take the taxi without any problem."

The air was even colder outside. It wouldn't be so cold, however, if only she had decent cloth covering her back. But she only had the shawl, and slight blows from the wind easily made her shiver. Thankfully, the walk to the taxi wasn't so long, and she immediately entered, before leaning back and relaxing against the warmer cushion.

She was relieved for a moment, and then confused again for another. She turned to Lochlann again. "What amendment?" She honestly didn't remember.

"That's nice. I wish you'd continue that, so next time it rains, we can take the taxi without any problem."

Lochlann nodded. He didn't want to get a head of himself, but maybe, just maybe, he could start doing normal things now. Like take a car, or a train. He'd always wanted to be on a train. The only indication that something was wrong was the slight shaking of his hands, but he tried to hide it by immediately getting closer to Addy inside of the taxi.

"What amendment?"

He grazed a finger from her shoulder up to her neck to tilt her head up towards him. He looked her in the eye and gave a wide smile.

"The amendment where tonight has a fifty shades of grey theme?" Lochlann asked.

Very suddenly, Lochlann moved like he was about to kiss her again, tilting his head and bringing his face close to hers, but it was just to whisper in her ear, "I read the book so now I know all the lines. Do you have any idea what sort of torture that was? I couldn't stop, Addy. Each page was a trainwreck, but I'm fifty shades of fucked up and had to know how it ended."

He pulled back and stretched out in the back of the taxi, his eyes still all over her. This evening was going to be fun.

"I hope you are hungry," Lochlann said, laughing. "I'm starved."

Recalling that it was fifty shades of grey night, Adelene's eyes widened obviously. They wouldn't leave Lochlann's own, even as he leaned down, and she thought he was going to kiss her and the feeling of her face melting was unbearable, but him whispering to her ear was even worse.

She pushed him away, glaring, her face and ears fifty shades of red.

"That's embarrassing as fuck!" Her voice was raised, but Lochlann had to understand, it has only been a few minutes and he already managed to make her flustered. Fortunately she slightly calmed down soon enough. "You can't do it. Don't." She crossed her arms, facing ahead and slumping more against their seat.

He was laughing and gods damn, it was irritating. Well... not really. But it was a sort of defense mechanism for her to act like it was irritating. "..."

"That's embarrassing as fuck!"

Her voice was raised, which only made him grin and laugh harder, but it tapered down and Lochlann became serious for a moment.

"No, what's embarrassing as fuck is knowing that you saw me helpless," Lochlann said. "I don't have a lot in my life that's going right, but you're one of the things that is. If I don't feel like I'm in control of something, it just makes me remember how helpless I really am."

He blinked for a moment, then ran a hand through his much-shorter hair and laughed again. He didn't expect to tell her that. Despite trying to show her how in control he was, Lochlann couldn't contain himself around her. He trusted her, and that scared him. He didn't like opening up like this.

"I don't think that was in the book," he said.

"You can't do it. Don't."

"Oh, but I think I can, and I will," Lochlann said, and then he moved very suddenly, invading her space again, getting so close to her that he'd almost pulled her onto his lap. "I have a surprise for you, Addy, but you need to close your eyes for me."
