for a lack of better things

Sherry's soul seemed to be a murky grey; that in-between state that was neither pure nor truly tainted. It wasn't exactly a state that he liked, per se. Tybalt preferred the light and the pure, being of angelic influence, but too many people had those grey souls these days. He grew so tired of it... His partner was one of those, too.

As for not caring... What a pity. She didn't have any of that curiousity about her. That why that made people what they were today. Hey, if she was "just a normal human" who happened to live a few thousand years, he figured the why was a sticking point. If he were a human, he knew it definitely would be. But he was an angel, and he already had his answers.

"Hm... Interesting. So you've seen quite a bit, then." He wasn't surprised, and he settled easily back into his seat, leaving the heavy and crumbling tomb on the table in front of him. He'd get a much better look at it later, when he had time to flip through it page by page with forensic gloves on.

"Not much to my story, to be honest. I'm not human, and I've been around for a while. I wasn't around for everything, but I've seen some stuff from... multiple perspectives, to say the least."

The thing was, Tybalt never outright admitted or told people what he was. If they guessed correctly then he wouldn't really deny it, as his partner had done, but he never volunteered the information. It had too many wounds associated with it.

"It's been an interesting life, but you're right, it does seem to blend in after a while."

"Too much for one mind to handle I think. Sometimes I wonder if someone probed my memories what they would find history wise. Then I remember that I don't like people seeing my memories. There are some stuff you don't want people to know."

Sherry wasn't ashamed of the things she has done. It was more the personal things she still remembered that she hated, like the fact of staying so young looking while her parents became old. People she had gotten close to and saw wither away in the sea of time. That was the only thought she hated anymore.

"Not human huh? Well to be fair most people who know I'm Immortal don't believe I'm human either, but hey to each their own. Now the bit about multiple perspectives is interesting. You see I'm a history buff and do sub at the Academy when it's needed. Having lived through some stuff does has its perks of seeing a few things first hand and adds more depth to some discussions in class."

She took a sip and looked at Tybalt a little playfully. Oh the things she wanted to ask him, some naughty, but most purely educational. What was bothering her was the look from earlier. He was staring at something, but she didn't catch what. No warning bells in her mind were going off so she didn't mind too much. Everyone had their own way of going about after all.

"Curious if you don't mind, what would you say is the worst part of being Immortal? Out of all the pros and cons of it all what bothers you the most?"

@Horus we really need to do another thread with these two after this one. nothing beats two immortals talking about historical events and bullshiting with it.

@Bolt (yeah, we totally should. Also, sorry for not replying for so long, I got swept up with liiiiiiife)

"Hey, enough variety in powers that maybe someone already did." Of course he was throwing out metaphorics here. He knew that if someone probed his memory, they'd find plenty of personal misery. It wasn't like he particularly enjoyed being cast down from heaven like rubbish, but he knew it had been his fault. Wrath had gotten the better of him.

"History buff, huh? I mean, after seeing so much of it, I guess you gotta be at least somewhat interested." Tybalt looked into it every once in a while, but he really cringed at the sins of humans brought to light throughout history. Who was the one that said it... Where history was just the version of events that the winners agreed upon.

Of course, this meant a slightly greyed soul was frowned upon. A soul like Angelo's, grey and sticky, made it even worse. He was judgmental, to say the least.

"Ah... Worst part, huh?" He scratched the scruff on his chin for a moment, mulling it over. "I guess... never being able to see people for very long. Or at least not being able to form close bonds with them until you realize they live a while, too."

She raised an eyebrow. Well it was possible, but she would have known if someone was probing her mind or attempting to she figured. Unless it was someone really good then she wouldn't know she figured.

"I suppose that one is true. Then again I'm sure a clone of myself appearing behind them would alert me. Have my own 'safety measures' in my subconscious that protect me from, well, a lot of things."

She took a longer sip of her coffee as her own gaze looked into her glass, a hint of sorrow in her eyes. So...He had the same conclusion she had. Relationships, a word that haunted Sherry every time it came up.

"Well there's another thing we have in common. Never could allow myself after the first few centuries to get close to someone only to watch them wither away in the sea of time. I mean sure I met people and had friends throughout my life, but nothing beyond...Yeah."

She hoped he was following her trail on her thoughts. Sherry normally didn't have a care in the world, this was just one of them and one of the few things that pained her.

"Well that sure a shit turned a little grim. I'd crack this open right here, but I think public intoxication is still illegal. At least during this time a day. Really know how to say the right things to a lady Tybalt."

Almost instantly her tone of sadness changed to her normal, somewhat upbeat tone with a little sarcasm at the end. She wasn't blaming him, just teasing him a bit. Had to kill the grim mood somehow.

It was a moot point for him, weird as it sounded. Tybalt didn't feel quite as badly about not forming relationships, even though it was admittedly one of the worst parts about his immortality. He was a different species, built to do different things, and so he wasn't quite as required to make lasting bonds as humans were. Was he even meant to do so in the first place? Good question.

He took a sip of his coffee, swirling the liquid in the mug now that it was nearly empty. "My pleasure." Turning things grim, of course, was almost never his intention. But when the topic turned to mortality, it was inevitable that someone would say something that brought a hush upon the crowd. People didn't like to talk about dying, after all.

"And how about yourself? What would be the worst thing about being a few hundred years old?" Everyone had a different perspective on things, didn't they? Just because Tybalt was casual about these things, didn't mean others often were.

He had bigger things to strive towards, after all.

Sherry had to think. Besides the passage of time, was there anything that bothered her? She lived rather carefree, had a few good drinking buddies, some fun adventures in her life. She really couldn't think of anything that was the worst outside of that. Well, maybe one other thing.

"Besides that, I'd have to say the worst thing is even if you talk about very specific events in details not in history books or articles, who would believe you? For example if I were to tell someone that I've assassinated about thirty historical figures throughout time, one of them being Roman Emperor Caligula, do you think they'd believe me? Not likely. Ahh Rome."

Tilting back in her chair Sherry tried to remember what she could about her time in the Roman Empire. That was a fun time in her life, but alas it ended and she moved and got lost in the sea of time.

"Before you ask, yes part of that is true and part of that isn't, you can guess which. They weren't kidding when they said memory is the first to go with age. And living this long I can't even remember what my actual surname is. Ultia just sounded nice and I kept it. Be fun to learn my surname and the history that followed it throughout the years."

Sitting back down normally she set her coffee down, glancing at Tybaly almost bored like. It wasn't that he was boring her, it was that she hated talking about herself unless someone managed to learn a few secrets of hers. Then she could talk for hours.

Huh, he supposed that was true, too. Tybalt shrugged right back, finally draining his cup and putting it down. "Hm... How unfortunate. Part of being human, hm?" The thing is, Tybalt had infinite memory as an angel. He didn't forget as he aged because... Well, he wasn't a being of age. Damn, it was difficult to explain, so he just wouldn't.

"For a lack of better things to say, I can only partially sympathize. My memory is still intact, but I usually just shrug off events. I mean, there's nothing I can really say that would change people; they're stubborn." He'd learned that through his years of judgement, looking down upon humanity and heaving a great sigh at the peril they've created for themselves.

Another glance out the window; snow was really falling now, in those big fat cottonball flakes that got everywhere and turned into a slurry within a few hours. How bothersome, really. "Now, I'm sure you didn't plan to spend all day here with me. I really aught to get going myself."

"True that."

Sherry looked outside at the same time he did. Damn was it starting to pick up? Snow wasn't exactly easy to parkour around in. Well this made things annoying to get back home. And with the wine she wasn't going to risk slipping on some rooftop and shattering it, even if it was in a protective box.

"If you got other things to do then by all means. Here's my number if you ever want to talk history whether that be bullshitting around or actual discussions. I have a feeling you know a lot more things than I do, which is intriguing on its own. Alas the weather has toldth usth to getth the fuckth out of dodgeth...."

Sherry deadpanned Tybalt as she made another poor joke. Yeah it was stupid and even her fake English accent made it worse. Well it was worth it to have fun at any time she could.

"Shit if you ever visit any of the bars a night give me a hollar. Could use a drinking buddy from time to time. Or era to era."

There was a pause at the end of her badly faked English complaint, then he couldn't help but smile just a little. He took her number between two fingers and regarded it for a few moments before slipping it into his wallet. "Very well. I'll call you up sometime." She seemed interesting enough, even if it was just for a walk down memory lane.

"Everybody needs some consistency, right?" Hell, maybe even an angel. Tybalt gave her a quick clap on the shoulder as he brushed past her, walking out into the cool afternoon air with the big puffballs of snow raining down on him.

Perhaps today hadn't been productive, but he was fine with just meeting Sherry.
