VOTE WEI HU SUN!

Said the banner that he was currently trying to string across the entrance to and out of the cafeteria. This was one of the most frequented places on campus for the general student body. If he made a good impression, then he could get a lot of votes.

But that was if he made a good impression, and that was proving to be a lot harder than he'd ever conceived. The banner was large enough to easily drape the doorway, of that he was completely and undeniably sure. However, he was having a hard time balancing on the ladder that he was using and also pinning the banner to to the wall.

How did other kids in the dramas he watched do this?

It only took a few more tries and a wildly unstable ladder for Wei to finally get the banner properly hung.

The high school freshman took a moment to marvel at his creation before the ladder's stable-unstable waveform collapsed, taking him and a corner of his hand-made banner with it, collapsing on the floor in a pile of splintered wood, red paint, and a long tear from his banner.

"Aw man...!"

"Someone caught you swipin' their banner or something?"

It was a mildly long stretch for a joke, but Orion was caught up in the moment of having a comment ready to go and simply rolled with it. He casually stood over Wei and his pile of wood splinters, munching a banana for a snack and gradually tracing the scene upward to the torn banner. The banana in the presence of the monkey boy was only an unfortunate coincidence, and the implication went right over Orion's head anyway.

"Here. Get on up."

Orion held out his free hand to help Wei to his feet.

"You're not hurt or anything are you... Wei Hu Sun(?)?"

Wei let out a long, pained groan as he looked up at the guy offering him his hand. He was a little confused about what he meant by swiping someone's banner, until he realized that this looked more like he was intending to rip the banner from over the cafeteria wall, rather than hanging it there.

"No... I was trying to put up campaign stuff..." He said with a low mutter, stretching out his hand and taking it, climbing to his feet. "But it looks like even a magical school has old cruddy ladders."

Giving himself a pat-down, he gave Orion two thumbs up. "Well, aside from having tons of splinters in my back--" he said, not even trying to check exactly how much wood was digging into his flesh, only that there was a lot of it. "--I'm fine."

"Thanks for helping me up. Sucks that my banner is ripped now, though...." he said turning to look at the banner, the bottom half almost completely torn off.

Morgan looked up from her lunch as she saw the monkey boy from her magic class, Wei Hu Sun, fall off of a ladder while trying to hang up a banner. She quickly got up and walked her way over to Wei, though someone else had beat her to it and assisted him in getting back on his feet. Morgan took awhile to recognize him as Orion Sevengill, someone she didn't know personally but had heard about once or twice.
"Wei are you alright?" she said to him with a kind tone. She looked over to the banner that he was attempting to put up... "VOTE WEI HU SUN!". This would imply that Wei was running against her... which would make them enemy's in Morgans eyes, though she would have to hide this from Wei. Appearing cold hearted would ruin her chances of becoming Student Council President, and she had too become the Student Council President, she had to be a pillar of justice and order, and to do that she had to win.

It took a moment, but Orion's languid mind eventually caught up and put all the pieces together. The banner. The name on the banner. The person grabbing the banner with the name on it, and his subsequent displeasure of having it torn during his inglorious fall to the ground from a ladder. It all made sense finally, when it really should have been obvious right from the beginning.

"Mmmmaybe you could get another banner? I mean, where did you get THIS one?"

When Wei turned around to assess the damage to his banner, Orion had the opportunity to assess the damage done to Wei by the ladder. It was not a very pleasant sight and Orion cringed slightly at all the bits of wood that were sticking into him. There was no blood, thankfully, but it all looked very painful and irritating. But Wei did not seem too bothered by it, so Orion let it be, for now.

The approach of another student looking to help distracted Orion from Wei's injuries: a red-haired girl that Orion had seen around a few times in the halls.

"He's doing... mostly fine, right, Wei? Unless you want us to pick out all those splinters."

"I made it," he said, trying to avoid rubbing his back, despite the fact that he really, really, REALLY wanted to. It was beyond uncomfortable. "I can't have my election banner being torn like this, it sets a bad example."

Wei really looked at the banner, examining its damage and finally letting out a frustrated sigh. The whole bottom of the banner was ripped. The lower half of his name was completely gone. Damn it. It had taken him hours to finally get the banner done, mostly because he kept forgetting what the proper romanization of his name.

(He had tried "Way Who Son", "Why Hoo Shun", and a bunch of other embarrassing attempts before the internet once again proved itself to be a loyal and loving friend).

He looked over his shoulder back at the guy who had helped him up. The guy had addressed him by name, so maybe the banner was getting his name out there after all! Though... maybe being the kid who fell off a ladder wasn't the best showing of his Student Government skills....

"Oh! Uh..." The idea of someone picking out the splinters actually sounded lovely. He missed being groomed, he hated having splinters in his back, and he wouldn't logically be able to get them out on his own, so...

"Yeah... yeah, some help would be appreciated."

His banner was torn, good, less competition for Morgan. Wei was a friend but if he was trying to run against Morgan then they were enemy's, and she was glad his banner was ruined, though of course she couldn't make this evident, that would ruin her. She thought about assisting Wei with getting the splinters out of his back, but figured that this Orion had it covered. She surveyed the banner.

"Running for Student Council are we?", of course she already knew, but she wanted to hear it straight from him "Guessing youre going after that president role?"

Orion finished off his banana and tossed the peel into a nearby bin.

"Daaaamn. That sucks, man."

The mouthful of banana may have muffled the concern and sympathy that Orion was trying to convey with his words. Seeing someone frustrated with their own work, or having their own work brought down by an unforeseen mistake, always got sympathy out of Orion. As a young man of science and a budding artist, he understood what it was like to have hours of work and effort seemingly come crashing down for no good reason.

He would have offered to help Wei repair the banner, had he any actual experience in that particular medium. At the moment, Orion only had practice in paints and some clay modeling. Fabrics and cloth were beyond his scope. But it seemed that his offer to help clean out Wei's back was worthy.

"Okay then. Just hold still and tell me if anything stings."

To Orion there was nothing particularly strange about grooming the back of some stranger he just met. He had made the suggestion after all, and he was more than okay with following through. So he ignored all the looks he got as he carefully plucked bits of wood out of the poor guy.

"Student Council? There some kind of election going on? I kinda just thought you guys were promoting yourselves or something."

Wei slid his hair out of the way to make it easier for Orion to get at the wood that had buried itself into his back. He was a little worried about it--after all, this was wood chips buried into his flesh after all, there was no way this could possibly be anything more than a vaguely painful experience where everything just felt a little better by the end. But at the same time...

The possibility of getting groomed...

Not that this guy was grooming him. Or rather, not that he was grooming him knowingly. He was just trying to be nice. And he would have to thank him at some point for this.

The first wood chip hadn't been buried too deep, so it didn't hurt when it came out.

"Huh?" He asked, looking over to Morgan who was regarding his destroyed banner. "Oh, well, I'm in the election, but I'm not running for president."

And its a good thing too, He thought to himself. If people had seen someone trying to run for president eat as much shit as he just did, he wouldn't have to worry about making secretary.

"My goal is secretary. I'm not organized or commanding enough for something as intense as President."

The next chip had been buried a little deeper, so it hurt a little when it was pulled out, but the relief at having it out sent a euphoric shudder from the tips of his hair to the curl of tail.

"Mm, yeah! I wanna be the secretary. PR is my strong suit, after all."

Oh... Wei wasnt running for president he was running for secretary...

...

Well this was awkward. At least this meant Wei was no longer her enemy, if anything it meant the two could partner up. Morgan decided to come clean about being in the running's "I for one am running for Student Council President, though I dont have any banners, or even posters yet." Morgan was a perfectionist which meant those banners and posters wernt going to be around for awhile, but when they did come into existence they would be perfection.

"Perhaps we can make a new poster together? Though it would have to be as running partners.". Morgan already had a running partner, it was her close friend and "little sister" Anh Sang, the girl was the key to victory in the election, but another running partner wouldn't hurt anything.
