It was one of those days when Adelene would just... study the whole day and enjoy it.

She was genuinely happy that none of her classes got cancelled today, her schedule was filled with nothing but class-related activities. It was nice to let the brain do all the work while her body stays still, for a change.

It was two in the afternoon. She was in her Physics class, taking notes as the instructor spoke and explained the lessons by the board filled with all kinds of graphs and vectors and numbers, etc. She was as focused and serious as if Physics was her life. To an extent, after all, it was.

The room was amphitheater-like, and Adelene sat somewhere in the middle where the boards were just far enough, but not too far. Aside from the instructor's voice, the crowded room was filled with silence.

Lochlann was surprisingly good at getting people to tell him things. Maybe it was the suggestibility he possessed as a water horse, or maybe it was because no one believed he would do something like this.

It didn't take him long to track down Addy's class schedule; he'd done it a few days earlier in preparation.

He knocked on the classroom door and entered, his face somber. He was actually wearing the school's uniform appropriately--everything was tucked in and buttoned the way it should be--and his dark hair was in order. It looked like he'd been getting ready for a funeral.

"I'm sorry for the interruption professor, but I'm here to pick up Adelene Cross. There's been an--" he looked away and found Addy's face in the group of students, and then looked down to the ground like it was too much to bare. "There's been an emergency."

Adelene looked up from her notes at the disruption, only to freeze in place seeing Lochlann by the door and looking so... proper. She got the funeral impression pretty quickly, but that only cause her to tense up, especially since Lochlann was talking so... properly and... seriously... and saying that... There was an emergency..!

Adelene stood up and quickly placed all her things in her bag, before dashing towards the door.

"I'm sorry for the trouble, Prof!" was all she said, before pulling Lochlann by a hand to the hallway. She looked on edge, because Lochlann was so... serious. She stopped eventually and turned to him, worriedly looking into his eyes. "What emergency? What's wrong?" She asked. She felt nervous all of a sudden, because what the hell would cause Lochlann to be so serious??

Lochlann shook his head. His hand was still in hers and he put his other hand ontop of hers, covering it like he was protecting her from something.

"Addy I...I don't want to tell you this here," he said, his voice soft and serious. "Come on, we need to talk in private."

He took her by the hand and led her down the hallway. Any questions she might have, he wouldn't answer, simply saying, "We can't talk here."

Eventually, they'd arrive at one of the empty classrooms and Lochlann would lead her in. He'd hesitate, then let go of her hand and say, "Addy, you should probably sit down before I tell you this....something horrible has happened."

Adelene didn't know what to say, or do. So she let him lead her to where ever, already expecting some terrible news. But... Lochlann seemed fine, so... whats wrong?

She tried to ask a few times, but Lochlann gave her the same answer all the time. She eventually gave up on the questions as well.

She was even more confused once they entered an empty classroom. "What the hell, Loch..?" She sat down. She opened her mouth, but realized she didn't have to anymore, not in such a haste.

"What horrible thing?" she asked him, gripping on his hand more. "You're making me nervous, dammit..!"

"What horrible thing?" she asked him, gripping on his hand more. "You're making me nervous, dammit..!"

Lochlann was glad she sat down, but he made his face look even more somber than when he entered the room. He sighed dramatically, then walked around her so he was standing behind her.

"Addy, I hate to tell you this like this, here, but..." he suddenly put one hand over her eyes, his other hand moving in front of her to plop something on the desk quickly. He knew how fast her reflexes were and didn't want to risk any bodily harm unless he had to.

"....you were in class on your birthday."

He pulled his hand back and on the desk in front of her was a gift bag. Inside was a pillow he'd helped make with the wool from Lamby. He'd stuffed it inside a plush case to try to mimic the way the sheep felt. There was also a small book of poems in there, too, since he kept threatening to recite them for her all the time.

"But wait!" Lochlann said, "Before you kill me, know that there would be a witness."

He couldn't whistle, but he clapped his hands together twice and, on que, the sheep came walking into the classroom, pulling a small red wagon that was fastened to the harness he was wearing. Predictably, the sheep was wool-less.

The cart had a small pastry box, some sparkling juice, and a stack of birthday candles. He was going to do this right and maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't kill him.

"Happy Birthday, Addy."

Adelene held her breath. She was expecting to hear something really horrible, and with Lochlann covering her eyes... What's going to happen..?

She didn't need to wonder for so long, as Lochlann finally revealed what was really up.

Her birthday.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the sheep plushy. She grabbed it quickly, squeezing it as hard as she could, before looking up at Lochlann. Her eyes were still confused, but the excitement for the plushy had easily taken over. "So soft..! Hold on..." But her look quickly turned to a glare. "...this isn't an emergency! You dragged me out of class because of this?!"

Her body automatically got up, and while one arm secured the sheep plushy, the other stretched out so she could reach Lochlann's cheek and pinch it. Her height was enough for the job.

"But wait! Before you kill me, know that there would be a witness."

She stopped that moment and turned her attention to the door. She curiously waited to see someone, and was pretty ready to continue torturing Lochlann's face once she sees whoever it was...

But no, she wasn't ready.

Her jaw dropped as her body turned limp against the huge muscle wall. She didn't know what to react to first-- the sheep, its missing wool, or the cart, or the fact that Loch brought Lamby to school-- it was all too much to take in.

"What... What the hell..?"

She covered her whole face with a hand. She still wanted to hit Lochlann somehow but... she was too surprised at the moment. And too embarrassed. It was her first time being treated like this.

"..."

"..."

Speechless, only the small smile on her face could speak for her at the moment.

. "So soft..! Hold on..." But her look quickly turned to a glare. "...this isn't an emergency! You dragged me out of class because of this?!"

"Well I couldn't exactly wahhhhh--"Lochlann said as she grabbed onto his cheek and he had to lean over, blinking rapidly.

She seemed to go limp and Lochlann held her, resting his chin ontop of her head, giving her an affectionate kiss on the top of the head without thinking about it. There wasn't any sort of intention behind it--Lochlann didn't even seem to have realized he'd done it, because he was beckoning the sheep towards them.

"What... What the hell..?"

"It gets better, I promise, sit back down," Lochlann said. He had Lamby walk towards them and then, when close enough, Lochlann unhooked the cart from him and gave the sheep a treat. His duties done, Lamby bounded up to Addy and proceeded to just cute all over the place.

Lochlann removed the pastry box and set down an over sized cupcake in front of her. He grabbed the candles and stuffed them on the top, and then fiddled with the lighter for them.

"You have to make a wish before you blow them out," Lochlann said to her, really serious. "Yours might come true."

Adelene let Lochlann do his thing. She felt the kiss on her head, and was strangely completely fine with it, even though they had that history of a really awkward accident once and she ended up kicking him in the guts.

She petted the sheep affectionately when it went closer to her. She was laughing very softly, her head lowered to the adorable creature. It was her first time to see one that was wool-less.

She sat down after that. She watched Lochlann reveal the oversized cupcake, which was actually more or less a real cake to her, and kept still as he put candles on it and and lit them up.

She was smiling. But... there were small beads of tears in the corners of her eyes. She couldn't speak, she felt like if she did, she'd just start sobbing or crying in a messier way. She didn't want to ruin Lochlann's surprise for her. It was very wonderful. How she hoped she could actually tell him that, but it would have to wait because... all she could do was nod and wipe her eyes, before trying to think of a wish.

I just wish... that somehow... my new friends and I would always be happy. Lochlann needs to fix his life, too. If my wish can come true, I hope he'll always be included in them.

And then she blew the candles. She laughed again, but her voice gave up on her as she just started to sob, and she had to cover her face with her hands or Lochlann would see how ugly she was when she cries.

Lochlann was excited as she blew out the candles and then there was a reaction he didn't expect.

She was crying.

"W-what? Addy! No! Everything is okay, there's no emergency, no tears," he said, dropping whatever he was doing to go to her. He'd never seen her cry before, but Lochlann didn't hesitate. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to his chest, petting her hair.

"I'm so sorry Addy," Lochlann said. "I wasn't trying to make you upset, I wanted to surprise you."

Lamby tried to help in the comforting by resting his head on her lap and looking at her with giant lamb eyes.
