The Downtown area of the Manta Carlos Islands was buzzing with life. Couples strolled down the street, hand-in-hand. Groups of friends met up to eat lunch and hopefully enjoy a day out on the town. Children whined to their parents. To top it all off, the citizens seemed to be celebrating the local holiday, Founder’s Day, which only added to the craziness. Stuck in the middle of it all was Lucia.

Being new to the island, there were many places she wanted to explore, one of them being the city center and the variety of shops it had to offer. She would not only get to see more of the island, but there was a chance that she could meet some new people there--Shopkeepers, other students, or maybe even just some friendly citizens. It was a great idea...In theory. Unluckily for Lucia, she managed to pick one of the busiest days of the year to make her visit.

She stumbled upon the obscure shop while trying to find some peace. After finally escaping from the loud noises and the claustrophobia, Dark Arts Fashion was a blessing in disguise. Even though the clothes weren’t her style, something about the shop piqued her curiosity. Maybe it was the well-crafted items on display, maybe it was the overall atmosphere of the place, or maybe it was a combination of the two. Nevertheless, she decided to take a look around the store, if only just to avoid having to go back to the hell that was Founder’s Day. She pushed open the door and began to look around.

This day, Founder's Day was quite lively for Kaya, not so much busy as she was bustling about with orders that were going to be picked up that day. So Kaya was in her back room working on five outfits at the same time as she walked between them making sure everything was going to her designs. Finding herself humming along to a nameless song when she felt a pressure at the back of her head where the tips of her horns almost touched. Someone had entered her shop.

So with a quick look down at herself to make sure her shadow black pants and nebulous red thin shirt were in proper order before she stepped out into the main room. The front ' shop' area was full of outfits lining the walls and a few were on display areas around the shop. Each one was different then the others some are dinner wear, another was a frilly ball gown, and not quite hidden in the back was women's lingerie. Kaya did have a variety of different clientele.

"Welcome to Dark Art Fashion, I am the seamstress Kaya Foxuma. How can I assist you this day?" Kaya said with a smile as she exited the back room fully, it took until after her introduction for her mind to notice a small pull on it from the girl that stood in her shop. It was a familiar pull and she couldn't help but give a warm smile as she added "...cousin"

Lucia was inspecting a dark dress when a voice from behind startled her momentarily. Quickly turning around, she came face-to-face with a horned purple demon. Lucia’s muscles tensed, a half-hearted smile plastered to her face. She flinched at the familial term “cousin.”

“Oh, I’m just window-shopping!” Lucia blurted, laughing nervously. It had been a while since she was this close to another demon. There were all sorts of creatures on this island; she was bound to come across one someday. Still, it ended up catching Lucia off-guard.

Lucia caught herself staring at the demon and had to look down. For once, she seemed to be at a loss for words. It took a moment for her to think of something to say. This demon, Kaya, must have been the owner of the shop. At the very least, she probably made some of the clothes here, and that deserved some praise.

“These clothes are really nice,” Lucia commented dully, raising her head but still managing to avoid making eye contact.

There was a small flinch when Kaya had spoken, mainly about calling the girl cousin. A few thoughts ran through her mind as she tried to find the reason why this would be so. The biggest one was did this girl find the fact that Kaya called her family disgusting? That gave Kaya a small punch to her stomach but thinking about it looking at how the girl looked at her she realized that wasn't it. The next one was that the girl had had really bad experiences with other demons, this thought felt like it had more plausibility. So in the future Kaya decided to go with a more....friendly non-familiar form of address for this girl.

"Well my dear, I'd say today is a good day for window shopping. Unfortunately though, all the work that I do is custom and even these display pieces are copies of the originals I have made for others. I've made them so they would disappear if they were to leave the shop. Partially to help keep the price of their attire from declining over time. Sort of a pricelessness sort of deal I guess."

Kaya walked around the counter while she talked as well as moving her eyes across the collection of clothing around her shop. Each piece was true inspiration for Kaya since she had a story about each one. "If you like I don't charge for fittings and we can see if you'd like to find something you might like?"

As Kaya explained how her shop worked, Lucia’s eyes wandered to the clothes around the store. None of the items featured were available for purchase. She supposed that they acted as a sort of advertisement, a sample of what you could get here. Luckily, she wasn’t looking to buy in the first place, so it didn’t bother her. She was about to continue her clothes browsing when Kaya offered to give Lucia a fitting.

Lucia didn’t think that she would be interested in actually buying any of the clothes. Again, judging by the rest of the clothes in the shop, they weren’t exactly her style. However, fittings were free, said Kaya, and it couldn’t hurt to simply try stuff on. It might even be fun. At the very least, It was better than aimlessly walking around the store, checking out the items on display. She quickly made up her mind but set boundaries for herself: No buying.

“I think I’d like to have a fitting,” Lucia said slowly. Taking another glance around and looking down at her own outfit, she added, “Do you think you have anything a bit more...Colorful?”

this girls comment made kaya laugh quite hard mentally. There was plenty of color in the dresses and some of the other ball gowns in the store...they were just on the other side of the store from where the girl was. Though it was still a small shop there was plenty to look at so she kept her laugh internal. "I can certainly see what I can do for you my dear." Then with a motion of her hand she directed the girl towards the raised section of floor as she began walking over in that direction.

"Now darling, do you happen to know what a living shadow is?" Kaya highly doubted it and waited for a response in any case before continuing. "A Living Shadow are shadow 'creatures' that live in The Shadow Realm of demons. They are long thread like beings of minimal intelligence that I use to make my clothing. They do not tear, they do not burn, and in some cases can be able to stop bullets and be as light as silk or be stronger then human titanium yet only be as heavy as a thick stack of paper." With a flourish of her wrist she opened a portal and a dozen strands of shadows poured out from it and they began to orbit her hand in as many different directions.

"I can make any piece of clothing you could imagine and be any color of the night sky. From the deep reds of super giant stars to the shimmering blues of a nebula. But the only thing that some consider a down side is while I'm making the clothing it requires skin contact of the consumer." Kaya looked over her shoulder at the girl as Kaya took the final step so she was standing next to the dais. "Do you understand what it is that will be required?"

Lucia trailed behind Kaya as she was lead to a raised platform. She glanced at the demon seamstress before tentatively scurrying forward to stand on it. Not really knowing what to do with herself, she pinned her arms to her sides and rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet, striking an uncomfortable position.

At the mention of a “Living Shadow,” Lucia shook her head and tilted it to the side as she listened to Kaya’s explanation. Living Shadows sounded like complex beings, if they could be considered that. Were they really alive, or were they just some sort of tools? Lucia didn’t think she would understand, until Kaya opened a small portal and unleashed them. They ducked and weaved around as if they had minds of their own. It almost seemed like a clever magic trick, but Lucia knew better. She kept her eyes on the dancing shadows, almost as if she was mesmerized, but once she heard mention of “skin contact” she was brought out of her trance.

“Um…” Lucia muttered. She didn’t know if she was mentally prepared for that kind of thing. She wasn’t even going to buy a dress. It was all just for fun, but was it worth it for the anxiety it would cause her? Then again, she had already come this far. It was just another step she had to take. She wasn’t going to stop here after just one roadblock. “I understand,” Lucia nodded. Brightening a bit, she added, “And surprise me with the color and style!”

Nodding thinking that this girl understood Kaya did a small flick of her hand a curtain of shadows materialized sectioning off their area from the rest of the shop to give them privacy. From the outside looking in it would only look like a solid black curtain while inside it was just translucent enough for Kaya to keep an eye on the rest of the shop. "Now, if you are wantin a dress then that is going to require stripping down to your under garments. This is to allow the Living Shadows the ability to try to make themselves more comfortable to you personally. Since each person is different with how they want their clothes to feel."

Kaya touched the shoulder on her own clothing. "as an example, mine would feel like the most lexurious of silks or i've heard of Egyptian Cotton being mentioned before. If you are uncomfortable with this we can see if we can work wtih something else."

Lucia nodded. Option 2, the one that didn’t involve stripping, seemed like a cop-out. Now Lucia was on a roll, a roll of bravery, and she couldn’t stop. Then, she put her hands to her dress. Her face turned red before she even unzipped it. So much for the bravery...

“I’m going to turn around now,” she said quietly. Facing away from Kaya made this easier. She quickly took off the multi-layered dress, revealing her panties with bears on them. Hey, she wasn't planning on getting a fitting today. When she turned back around, she was even more embarrassed. “All ready,” she chirped halfheartedly. She wrapped her arms around her waist and closed her eyes.

The first thing she felt was a soft touch, and then a warmth, like being enveloped in a blanket after a Winter snowstorm. The feeling started in her shoulders and quickly spread through her torso. It wasn’t as shallow as the surface of her skin; it permeated her being, giving her comfort inside, too. She felt her anxiety soften. The feeling stopped spreading and settled. When she opened her eyes and looked down, she was fully clothed. The dress’s skirt was pure black and hit her at her knees. Above her waistline was an explosion of blues and purples, surrounding and melting into each other, forming a piece of art. Her eyes sparkled like a child's in awe.

“This is beautiful,” she whispered.

Kaya didn't say anything as the girl turned around to try to get some privacy from her...probably not aware of the mirrors now in front of the girl. She also decided not to mention it when she turned back towards Kaya. She even seemed very shy about showing off her body. Giving what she hoped was a reassuring smile she raised her hands "Darling you're beautiful. That's nothing to be ashamed of."

With that her hands began their dance through the air as shadows appeared from above and below the platform as they moved along the girls body and began a knee length dress, The upper body was a beautiful mixtures of purples and blues while the lower body was a deep black. Once it was complete the woman opened her eyes and commented on her work.

"Hmmm..." Kaya said looking at the hem of the bottom of the dress. "Here let me do this real quick" Then with another flick of her hand on the hem was a small cloud of stars that wrapped around it. "Ah that looks a bit better in my professional opinion."
