One by one Nyota arranges the dishes from the bag in an orderly fashion. It was... unnecessarily neat but it gave her time to away from the others for her sort out her thoughts and feelings at the moment. She should be happy for her best friend dating a girl but somehow... she felt kind of jealous of the two of them. No... that wasn't the right word for it. It was envy. It wasn't like she was super envious but... just enough to make this whole situation a little weird for her.

Her best friend swooped the girl that she had a tiny crush on. But hey, she should just let it go James had no way of knowing about her little crush on Lila as she never talked about it with him. Not that she herself had a chance anyways Lila probably wasn't too interested in girls anyway given that she was dating James. Well I was dumb enough for her to even have a crush on Lila anyway, they only talked once and knew little about her aide from her name. Just another hopeless crush that crashed and burned... like that one she had on Worf... and Lauren from 5th grade... and that one time thing with Tomas because he was her assigned dance partner for a school play. Whatever, she was used to her crushes never working out so she should let this one go like the rest of them.

Stealing a drumstick from the bucket, Nyota looks over her shoulder to catch the two lovebird's kissing under the mistletoe. How gushy...

"Ewww.... you guys are just as much hopeless romantics as Will and Deanna from Next Generation." teased Nyota as she returned to the conversation with a drumstick with hand.

James was probably the only one here to get that reference now that she thought about it. She does her best not to look awkward or anything but... she still appeared a little tense for some reason. Stupid misplaced feelings... so she starts eating drumstick to occupy herself. The fried chicken was exceptionally good!

Kris sighed out a little bit. He raised his arms up to stretch lightly as he listened. James was the guy's name. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped as Lila approached the massive beast of a woman - who simply stared daggers at her, "Yeah uh.. That's me!" he called out to her. "Something like.. My soul or something? Part of it? Not sure. She protects me and stuff, and can hit like a freight train. I'm still not fully sure if she just does what I tell her or is just listening to me for now. So.. I dunno, watch out near her."

He sighed after explaining, "I should get a sign or something and make her wear it. But then again not everyone can see her. Not at first, usually, anyway."

Kris's nose wrinkled lightly at the gushy stuff. He moved over towards Nyota, crossing his arms. "I mean. Do you even really need the mistletoe? You guys are datin' and all." he said with a slow shrug. He paused a few moments before holding the bag towards Nyota. "Hey. I know you like that star show or whatever. Kinda.. Funny you do considering your power. But I got ya this as an early christmas present. Hope you enjoy it. Store person said it was popular before I swiped it." Still, he was genuinely smiling at her as he offered it!

A box! The top read "Star Wars". Oh no! Kris made the fatal mistake of mixing the two franchises up! Should she pull the box out, she'd see that it was a little remote control BB-8 toy!

"Cool, right?" he'd ask as he stuck his hands on his hips.

He wrapped his arms around Lila and kissed her back, it was sappy, it was a stereotypical thing couples did on Christmas, but James couldn't help but be romantic, it was not only his first Christmas but it was also his first holiday with his girlfriend. He smiled at her, "sorry I couldn't help myself."

He looked to Nyota, giving his best friend a small smile but it quickly faded, she seemed off, her behavior seemed really strange, it wasn't her comment comparing them to Star Trek characters, that was normal. His face showed some concern, he wasn't sure what was wrong, but he'd have to ask her about it later.

He watched as Kris gave Nyota a gift, James had given his gifts early, a necklace for Lila and a Star Trek lamp for Nyota, now it was probably inevitable that someone would notice that his tv was missing, marked by the empty area on his desk. He had sold it to get a bit of extra money for the gifts, the Christmas tree had been loaned to him by a teacher. "Thanks for bringing food guys."

Lila just smiled at Nyota's comment. It was nice to know that she would be okay with her dating James. It was always good when a guy's best friend approved of her dating him. She looked a little different, not taking on the relaxed posture of Kris nor the powerful stance of the woman. But she didn't know the girl all that well, and she had heard of a few people getting nervous before social interaction. It wasn't something she had to deal with, of course, but she'd definitely heard of it.

The woman was... Slightly terrifying. Lila was secretly very happy that Kris was the one who answered her question. He seemed way less likely to strangle her. Apparently the two of them were one and the same. Like she was a part of him. Not only did she look the total opposite of him, his description of her listed things Lila doubted he would be capable of doing himself. And she could go invisible? Kris didn't need to tell her to watch out for her, she was already planning on keeping her distance. "Oh, sorry," she said, feeling stupid that she talked to a piece of Kris' soul. "Um- can she... Talk? And does she have a name?" She inquired. It would be nice to be able to call the woman something other than 'Kris' Soul.'

"So, how'd you guys meet?" She asked, motioning at Nyota and Kris. She wanted to make small talk, as well as find out exactly what their relationship was. If they were just friends, or maybe dating, or something else. Gee, she thought, dating would be hard with that woman staring at you the entire time.

James apologised for the mistletoe placement, but Lila got the feeling he wasn't really sorry. She just smiled at him, letting him know it was a welcome surprise. As she looked to see if anyone was made uncomfortable by the kiss, it seemed as if the others would rather poke fun at the two of them than actually find it unpleasant. "We don't need the mistletoe," she replied to Kris. "It just happened to be there." She looked at James again, who had placed the mistletoe where they would be standing.

Lila watched as Kris gave Nyota a present. It still didn't tell her anything about their relationship, other than that they had become relatively close. It was so confusing! She just hoped she wouldn't have to push them under the mistletoe to find out.

Nyota looks to the bag and chuckled before she graciously accepts it.

"Hee... star show? You mean Star Trek? Yeah... you could say that I'm a fan. Pretty much inevitable when you grew up with Trekkies for parents But yeah... thanks for the gift Kris... guess I owe you a proper gift now." replied Nyota as who now holds her half eaten chicken leg and the bag both in her one hand. Turns her attention back to Lila who asked her something about how she and Kris met.

"Oh, yeah. Right... well... me and Kris here both happened to bump into each other when were both skipping classes together. As the old saying goes... great minds think alike. Am I right Kris or am I right?" bragged Nyota as she lifts her stump left left arm for a hi five. She was looked confused for moment before remembering that she didn't have her left hand. She then slowly lowers it back to her side and tries to pass it off that her little mishap didn't just happen.

"Anyway... kinda just became best buds on the spot. And their friend Quasar too but... she is pretty much invisible to almost everyone. Including me." stated Nyota as she bends down to look what what was inside the bag.

As she ruffled through the bag, her smile turns into perplexed grimace. She might have trouble with reading words but even she could recognize it was Star Wars property. She had no idea if Kris was fucking with her or if he was that much of idiot for getting this Star Trek and their Star Wars mixed but her inner nerd was infuriated.

"Kris... the fuck is this? You SERIOUSLY mixed up Star Trek with Star Wars... oh Christ be thankful I am not either of my moms or else you would have gotten a 6 hour lecture about the intricate differences between the two franchises. I mean... look that this turd ball? The fuck it is! So soo fucking dumb! Its soccerball with a tumor on it! Fuck sakes get your shit together Lucas! Or... I guess its Disney now that they bought the rights to it..."

With her rant over... she realized she probably sounded like a total bitch right now berating Kris over what was suppose to be a well meaning gift. He didn't know better and she shouldn't expect everyone to know nor care about Star Trek as much as she does. She better say something before she makes a complete ass of herself.

"Sorry... its fine. I probably sounded like a total bitch berating your gift. Honestly, I should be impressed you remembered the "star" part of the name. Thats more than I can expect from most people who usually have no idea what I'm talking about. So... yeah. Thanks for the gift Kris. You tried but hey... its the thought that really counts right? Anyway, think you can hold me open this fucker up? I just have to see how this turd ball actually moves. I mean... there is no way something this dumb thing can roll very far without its turnip head falling over right?"

"Quasar." Kris simply said. "I mean.. The only way to get on her bad side is to threaten me or some crap. But don't worry. You seem harmless." he continued, idly waving lila off. "But nah. She can't talk. I can.. Kinda see through her eyes but it's all blurry and kind of hurts my head. I can sometimes hear things, too. But it's all messed up."

His hands came to his hips. Star Trek? That was like Star Wars. Right? Both started with Star. So they were probably the same. Wait! He was being an asked a question! "Aha! Yeah. Right. I am awesome! And that makes you awesome as well!" Yep. Nailed it.

He just smiled and closed his eyes. Until he was called out on the present, "Wh-.. What is what? It's the Star thing-a-majig!" A hand came up to brush his hair from his bangs, "Oh Star Wars, Star Trek. Tomato, potato! Same thing! They sound totally the same!" he threw his hands up dramatically into the air before he went to cross his arms with a soft huff.

"I think it looks cool." he mumbled out, rubbing his arms as he pouted. She was trying to apologize now. Still. In the spirit of the holidays.. He wasn't going to guilt her over it. Not completely, at least. He sauntered on over and went to grip the box, holding it up so lil-miss one arm could open up her present.

"Don't worry. I'll be sure to get you a.. What was it? Star Tree? Right? Well I'll get you something better for actual christmas."

Kris seemed nice enough he supposed, though him waving Lila off like that irked him a bit, seemed a bit rude, him waving her off when James was nice enough to let him come, Nyota and Lila could probably see that he was annoyed at it as they knew him well. He looked to Quasar for a sec, he guessed having the Shadow living in him allowed him to see her, "so, she's like your bodyguard?" he asked out of curiosity.

His eyes snapped back to Nyota as she went into one of her nerd rages, in truth he didn't normally mind her doing this sorta thing, but it was a Christmas party and he didn't want his two guests fighting. He prepared to intervene if they broke out into an argument, but luckily that didn't happen. He let out a quiet breath of relief that no one but Lila could probably hear, he wrapped an arm around Lila and gave her an apologetic look for what just happened. James wasn't embarrassed by Nyota, he'd never be embarrassed by her, but the outburst was a bit unnecessary.

He watched as Nyota and Kris opened the gift, and it reminded how little he'd been able to get the few people he knew, he sold his tv and used up all the tips he had gotten from working as a waiter to buy the gifts. He wished he had been able to get them more, but he had used everything he had.

According to Nyota, her and Kris were just friends. Lila still thought they'd make a cute couple, she wouldn't deny it, but just nodded along. Maybe one day, she thought.

Kris said the woman was named Quasar. The name reminded her of space, but she didn't know exactly what a quasar was. Either way, she suspected it was a powerful name for a powerful creature. And it was a creature, she thought. After all, it couldn't talk.

But then Kris told her she seemed harmless. Raising an eyebrow, she kept her mouth shut but reassessed her first impression of him. Laid-back, friendly and incredibly dumb. Anyone who mistook her to be harmless was. He seemed human enough, and she bet she could get inside his head quite easily. If it wasn't for Quasar guarding him, and James of course, she would probably have already done so. But as James tensed just slightly next to her, she realised he wasn't pleased with that comment. Lila, on the other hand, was indifferent to it. It just made him look stupid.

James sighed, and she looked at him. He was looking straight back at her, low-spiritedly. Maybe Kris wasn't the best guest to bring to the party? But she was kind of grateful he was there. Had it only been the other three, the conversations would probably be much more awkward. As James wrapped an arm around her, she smiled. He had done so much good this Christmas. Gotten her gifts, taken her on dates and most of all, he was always there. Then she saw an empty space on his dorm desk, a space usually occupied by a TV. At least in other dorms. She wondered if there was a problem meaning he couldn't have a TV in the room, but thought it more likely that he had sold it. We're students even allowed to sell school property?

Lila couldn't help but smile as Nyota gave Kris a long spiel on his stupidity for getting her Star Wars instead of Star Trek. Even she knew about the two seperate movies, though she wasn't familiar with either. Holding back a laugh at the way she told him off, Lila saw Kris, clearly clueless, struggle to understand how seemingly drastic the situation was. This just shows how dumb he really is, she thought. But this was a Christmas party. They were all friends, supposedly. She didn't want the whole gathering to consist of arguments like they were a dysfunctional family.

So Lila broke away from James, realising she had been all too quiet for much too long. "Look at all this food! It'd be a shame if it all went to waste, wouldn't it?" Walking up to the table, she grabbed a slice of pizza. "Let's eat!"

Her logic was that eating would alleviate any stress or worry they had coming into the night, so maybe they could be more, well, joyful after that.

Nyota groaned at shook her head at Kris' Star Tree comment. She swore that he was doing it on purpose now.

"Alright... now your just screwing with me aren't ya?" spoke Nyota in an annoyed tone as she and Kris help each other open the box. Once Nyota ripped open one end of the cardboard box, the contents inside started to spill out an fall out to the floor but otherwise appeared intact.

"Really? Got to build it ourselves? I'm a Freshman... not an engineer." she groaned but sat down as she inspected the parts.

There was the controller as show on the box, the head and the shell of the body sphere sealed in protective plastic bags, and a black motor/stabilizer system that looks to fit inside the sphere. Nyota then uses her hand and her teeth to rip open the plastic bags covering the head and body body toy and laid out all of the parts in front of her. The assembly looked rather straight forward... any school child could figure how the parts are suppose to go together so she wasn't going to bother with the manual. It would have given her a headache she she tried to look through it anyway. As she held up the sphere covering up to her eye level, Nyota listened Lila suggest that they should start to eat.

"Oh, yeah! Sure thing... you guys go ahead. I'm going to see if I can get this turd to work first before I join you. Feel free to as much fried chicken and mashed tatters as you want. KFC is family tradition in my household... couldn't get a hold of the real deal here but this imidation KFC an't half bad." laughed Nyota before she went back to work to assemble the toy.

As she looked at the ball, she could see that she was suppose to twist open and the two halves would come apart like a coconut but... this was clearly job with two hands in mind. Undettered, she hold the lower half of the ball pinned between her knees as she sat while she used her right hand to try to twist the upper half to pop the sucker open. Her Christmas themed sweatpants where not up to the task as they just ended up sliding the whole sphere due to the lack of friction. Still determined, she then places the slower sphere between the soles of the shoes she was wearing and tried to twist off the top once more. This time, she was successful as pop could be heard the the sphere was now in two separate halves.

"Hah! There we go!" cheered Nyota as she placed the black inner mechanism inside the lower half of the sphere.

Then she seals the insides away as she twisted the upper half of the sphere back in place with small click being heard, indicating that the sphere halves were locked in place. Nyota then took the BB-8 head and placed it on top of the ball, which magically latches on thanks to the magic of magnetism. Nyota then eagerly takes the controller and presses one of the buttons but the toy does nothing. After she gave the controller a good shake, she realized that the battery was not included and they were going to need a AA battery and a small screwdriver to take off the cover for the battery.

"Hey James? Do you have spare double A battery and small screwdriver laying around?"
