Appearance Description

Basil is a pretty, sleek man. His hair goes to his chin in a fluffy cut, inky black and glossy with a purple sheen, and he has sideburns. It doesn't change at all in different lighting. His eyes intense, sharp but heavy, and very long-lashed-- like dark, underground water in color, occasionally with flashes of red and gold highlights, other times simply murky. His brows are round and thick, his nose high bridged, and both give a lot of character. His teeth are sharp, designed for tearing into all kinds of flesh. His skin is very dark, with a smattering of freckles just about everywhere. He's on the chubby side, and short at five feet six inches tall. Basil is rather adorable, and definitely terrifying.

As a dramatics obsessed, literal supervillain, Basil adores everything flashy, shiny, and sparkly. He's gaudy eye candy from the inside out. Something he favors highly is a galaxy cloak, enchanted to glimmer and appear like real stars, caught in shimmering fabric. Basil has pierced ears and tends to wear excessive jewelry, with a preference to gold and gemstones. Under the fancy outfits, he does like to wear more comfortable or cutesy clothes, and loves sweaters.

Oftentimes, real eyes pop up on him in places that they shouldn't be, and eerie darkness in creeps with them. Rarely, you might even see a few shadowy tendrils lurking about. This is Basil's voice, quirky, a little boyish, and with a tendency to get flamboyant. He has the vaguest lingering New York accent. Basil doesn't move like a person does. It's all too fluid, more like a creature in water.

Personality Description

Basil is a whimsical monster. He's despicable, disturbing and beautiful, breathtaking, a megalomaniac cult leader and pureblood Eldritch abomination. He is so much more than all of this, dripping with unknowable mystery, glory, and power, but boredom does wonders for lowering your standards.

Perhaps contrary to existing as living corruption, Basil is very bubbly, friendly, and lighthearted with a side of bold, though this also reflects his state of inhumanity. He's seen as cute to those that don't find him scary, even magnetic. He's here to have fun, be entertained, eat, and find treasures. If it isn't interesting, a novelty, it doesn't hold weight to Basil. And even then, it's debatable!

One of the strongest facets of Basil's personality, and driving forces of his existance, is curiosity. He consumes secrets as a primary source of power and livelihood. Discoveries and intrigue are important above almost all else. The second part of this trait, tying into it, is hunger. Basil is always hungry. This isn't fully in the traditional sense. He constantly desires to consume the knowledge and energy of others, smother them and make it his own. The hunger is half power hungry, half… literally hungry. He will eat you alive. Gluttony is Basil's sin, without contest.

As an Eldritch, a higher being, and one of the eldest of his kind, Basil has, without doubt, a significant narcissism streak. Depending on who you ask, it isn't unreasonable. His cult hails him as a god, and he may very well count as one! To others, of course, he is unholy sacrilege.

Having a better sense of who he is and his own true memories is still a recent thing to Basil, but it's adjusted who he was, while not completely changing the persona he took when traveling and settling here. Growth, for once, seems to have occurred, and that's a bit magical. Basil isn't a real boy, but he isn't quite artificial and empty like he used to be. Basil isn't someone who can ever be satisfied and at peace, but he doesn't mind that so much anymore. It makes life worth living.

Basil doesn't play by human rules, a lot of the time. He has no shame, no morality, and lowered limitations in general. He can behave himself and manipulate others, but in a blink, it can be a free for all anything goes. He couldn't care less.

Species traits/Powers

Indescribable Horror

Immortality

Although Basil can be subdued, he cannot truly die. It's hard to cease to exist when your existence is uncertain and unnatural in the first place. Sometimes he doesn't quite feel real, and others, all too intense- both of these extremes can be agitating, and to Basil, it almost seems like he's torn between two worlds, two places where he doesn't completely belong.

Thrives in the dark and sinister

Basil can relax, and stretch himself out in the dark. He's better in all ways when out of sight, lurking about, all senses boosted. Unassumingly peering in at him too closely at these times may have dangerous results. At times, Basil even seems to bring his own extra darkness and unease to areas, making that blurry corner at the edge of one's vision just a bit more blurry. He also seems to enjoy typically negative/harmful things, such as poisons, pollution, etc.

On the other side of this, Basil tends to be more sluggish on sunny days and most mornings. He can sometimes forget himself when things are too lively and innocently pleasant.

Communication with ugly, wrong things

As an extreme, unholy, unnatural abomination that came from planes of existence that should not be touched or thought about, Basil has an easy time understanding other similar creatures. They take to him, as he to them.

Creatures of purity will claw and struggle to get away from him without a second's notice, and places of the same nature will shun him. Forced interactions could cause damage to both Basil and his opposites.

Nasty aura

Explains itself well. He gives off a very, very bad vibe. Those that are especially weak to such things tend to have their mental state start deteriorating if they spend too much time in his presence- or be victim to some sort of… other corruptions. Basil is part of something that man was not meant to know, for their own good.

This is can be both positive and negative for Basil. Defends him from enemies and friendly faces alike, driving others away indiscriminately. This caused a lot of problems in Basil's youth, for obvious reasons. It's something he can't really turn off, no matter if he's trying to be aggressive and scary or not.

This is an extremely heavy and oppressive ability. His aura is intense.

Secret eater

Also self explanatory. Gains power with interesting details, and hungers for them. He has a sort of deep intuition about things, places, or people that might hold the tastiest tidbits of fascinations. Too much curiosity and hunger can get one in a lot of trouble, and give a bad reputation.

If offered too much or too important information at once, Basil can have explosions of his energy, and is a bit of a time bomb. His last experience with this was a city wide blackout as well as injuries to bystanders.

Biography

[REDACTED]

Basil's birth can be explained quite simply, though in a way that really only brings up more questions. Ones that not even Basil would know. One day, he popped into being, no parents in sight, straight into the home of a couple that already had several children and were expecting more. Expecting more, but not like this. Not like Basil.

Basil was a troublemaker before he had any choice in the matter, a devil child, according to some. Although the family he appeared to took him in, those that heard the truth about how he came to be were never comfortable with the boy. Reactions ranged from mildly uneasy and fake smiles, to outright scorn and accusations. Even his adopted family feared him, but felt it would be immoral to have not taken him in. Distrust followed him everywhere, and he rather learned to live up to those standards. He didn't try to hurt others, but sometimes, seeing those that hated you be a little jumpy brought all too much pleasure.

Basil got out of his birth town in his teens, and spent his time wandering, and especially drawn towards cities- with their neon lights, active nightlife, large population, and mysteries- surprisingly happy but still empty inside, missing something vital, particularly knowledge about his own being. He didn't make friends with others, he made passionate experiences, but not friends.

After causing a citywide blackout, and an amount of permanent harm to some number of humans, in an attempt to get knowledge about who and what he was, Basil was discovered. He was studied for some time- by an organization dedicated to keeping such things in order- and questioned, he was both made aware of just what he was, and offered a place at a school for those similar to himself. Well. As similar as anything could be to him. Under some careful watch and agreement to behave, as well as continued study of his own species growth, he could continue to progress. And perhaps, just perhaps, get rid of that emptiness, and make himself a little more solid.

Recent events have helped him with this. While he's completely ditched his watchers and is rather high profile for recapture efforts, he gained some new friends, a cult, some old flashes of memory and identity, and a more ambitious taste for outright supervillain activity. Fantastic!

Additional Information

Basil's cult is fully joinable, don't be shy to ask to do so, just reply to the advertisement. He's taken to nicknaming it the Velius Order.
