“’Because magic’ is a great reason, pal. At least it is until more research is done. Sometimes you just don’t got the tools to figure things out, y’know?” She took a moment to glance over at what he was doing. Space words! Those were totally space words! She’d have to question him about it later, but she had a potion to deal with.

“Ehehe, sorry. It’s not really meant to be eaten – the fact that it works at all is more of a… side effect. But hey, if it does work…”

Bell watched eagerly as the boy considered what was happening to him. He really was a clever person, wasn’t he.

“Nope!” She grinned at his attempt at an explanation. “Nice try, but no cigar, although… I would love to try that out, that’s a fascinating concept. I’m sure for that I’d need something a tad more complicated than a cassette tape and some salt and bread, though.”

“The whole point of chatter water is for it not to be learned or memorized.” She gave the heater an experimental poke, but it was still a bit too warm to put away. “I mean, it’s all over the place, right? Gobble-de-gook. Even more of a mess at full potency. Lasts for hours, just looping and scrambling all over the place… what happens is you learn to think inside it – but from the outside, it sounds like you’re just thinking nonsense. It’s like a – a mental assault. Mega cool, mega specific-to-areas-with-mind-readers.”

“So far totally unsupported by scientific principles, too! I mean, I’d love for that to change, but there you have it.”

"The point is to... NOT memorize it? What?"

Up until that point, Orion had been going totally on the assumption that the entire purpose of the so-called chatter water was to provide a quick and efficient means by which knowledge can be passed from person to person. THAT would have been an amazing little concoction. It would have been the next best thing to developing some kind of hivemind or shared techno-consciousness.

But when Bell made the chatter water's true purpose evident, Orion had to stop and look skeptical again. For a few moments, her explanation sounded equally nonsensical. Orion just could not favorably look at something that had such a seemingly useless application, if any at all.

Then it started to come together when she mentioned mind-readers.

"Ah. Oh. Ooooh. Okay. I think I got what you're saying. It's a training method for psychics? Cause I imagine being able to read minds or hear thoughts would require extensive practice to keep thoughts OUT when not actively mind-reading. Alright... That makes sense..."

He finished typing out his findings and experiences then leaned-in close to Bell. For a second, he had a mischievous glint in his eye. A glint that worked perfectly for him and his bad boy-esque looks. He had to admit, talking shop with Bell had endeared her to him.

"Fair is fair. You showed me something cool about magic. Before I ask about any other potion you got, you got any questions of me?"

“Oooh. You could use it as a training method. Generally, folks just use it to keep psychics out, though. You’re a clever fellow, you know that?” She looked over to him with an appreciative smile, bonking foreheads with him when he leaned in and meeting his gaze at close distance for a good moment. “‘Course I got questions.”

Then she pulled back and started counting on her fingers. “Alright, let’s see. First, where you from, second, why you here, third, can I mess with your boopy-glove machine –

She met his gaze again. “And why – this one’s my biggest question – why you trying to trick everyone into thinking you’re five or something? ‘Cus let me tell you, you’re a heck of a lot more interesting like this.” She grinned.

"Oh ho! Psychic jamming. I can see how that works."

Another note was typed out on his wrist as the two of them exchanged looks and forehead oils. Orion was steadfast in his own gaze, not flinching one bit as the two of them got close enough to share a peck on the lips. While he was not acting like the eccentric young man from earlier, he was still as aloof about personal space. Not that Bell seemed to mind, and he definitely appreciated the closeness.

"Slow down there, girl. Give me a chance to answer 'em."

As Bell held out her fingers, Orion gently touched each finger in turn. With each answer he gave he curled Bell's finger back into her palm.

"I'm from here actually. Earth."

Orion gave her another wink.

"Can't tell you why though, honey. So sorry."

His thumb rubbed a gentle circle on the back of her hand before he let go and raised his gloved hand. Just as he pulled it off, the screen went blank and the glove held a very neutral pose as he handed it to her. It was a tad weighty, but mostly it was stiff and unmovable.

"You can try, but it only reacts to me. It won't even articulate for you if you slip it on."

His last answer only came after he gave her a chuckle and leaned back against the table.

"It's a cover, I suppose. It draws attention to me while also making most people disregard me as some weirdo. And it's not like I can't be smart while acting all eccentric. I like to think of it as a little game. But I'm flattered, Bell. Maybe you'll see as much of me as that Succubus did."

“Ach! I’m only patient for potions. Everything else has to give way.” Bell gave Orion an impatient wave of the hand, but paused at his next actions.

“Earth, huh.” Her expression turned a lot more somber at that – at least at first glance. It was more like the gears were turning so fast in her mind she didn’t have the energy to emote. “Future boy? Gods, if you turn out to trying to take over the world or something I’m gonna be mighty disappointed.” She liked this boy, she’d decided. (She’d quietly switched her perception of him to “man” as well, but he didn’t need to know that.)

“Oooh.” She turned the glove over in her hands, admiring its weight. “I imagine you can explain that using straight science, too. None of my wishy-washy-maybe science. I’m so jealous…” She slipped it on just to see what it was like, and moved her arm up and down curiously. “You wear it like it weighs nothing. Ahhhh… If only you had a spare, I could try to take it apart…”

But she took it off and gave it back to him with a short, wistful sigh. Then she straightened up to listen to what he had to say, giving him a soft chuckle. “A game, huh? That’s a weird game to play.” Then she smirked. “You seem to think that’s a privilege of some sort.”

"Huhu... Rest assured that I'm not here for any particularly malevolent reasons. But I am here for a reason, or some reasons."

So far, two people knew of Orion's real self. Both of them ladies strangely enough. Neither were too aware of his true origin and purpose, though they both had some degree of understanding of when he came from more than where. Delise probably had some devious reasons for wanting to know his true nature, though she had yet to show it. Bell just seemed genuinely curious.

"It's pretty simple. Advanced biometrics and reactive metals. It's tuned to a specific DNA and the metals become flexible when certain... things are done to it. It gets difficult to explain at that point."

The moment his hand was about halfway back into the glove, it regained its normal flexible and usable nature. The screen blinked back to life and everything seemed nominal. Now that he was consciously aware of its weight, according to Bell, he started to feel it slightly again.

"I do have a spare, probably several. But like I said, my ship only lets one out at a time."

Orion got back up from the table and leaned forward again, touching foreheads with Bell.

"I work out way too much to not be a little arrogant with my body, honey.

A moment's pause let his words hang in the air, heavy with innuendo, before he stood back up and headed for the door.

"So I answered your inquiries. Now about showing me of your prepared potions? Let me sample some selects perhaps? Like a wine tasting, but magical!"

“Oooh. I’ll have to set a mind-reader on you some time, friend.” Bell grinned. She was only half-joking, to be honest – she would love to see just what Orion was thinking, and if she had the ability to read minds she’d definitely be in there right that instant.

“That don’t sound pretty simple to me. You think I could trick it by cutting off your arm, maybe?” Not a threat, just a question. “Or does it only work with live cells?”

She scowled a bit when it turned on for him, though not seriously. “It really is a picky little thing, isn’t it. Any normal glove would have leaped at the chance to be with me.”

“Guess you’ll have to bring me to your ship sometime, then. Maybe I’ll just follow you back one day — seems like a worthy cause.”

Orion didn’t exactly seem old, but when he did things like this she couldn’t help but notice the height difference. “Maybe I’ll cut you down to size one of these days.”

But in the end he was the one who brushed her off. “Hmmm. Sounds like you’re trying to get a free deal to me.” She tutted as if disapproving of him. “I already spent a good amount of gold on you, y’know, and I’ve told you plenty, if not more, than you have to me. I think you’ll have to offer me something a little extra before I let you into all my stuff.”

Orion stopped at the door and quietly eyed his metal hand.

"Um... Good question. I never thought about that. But... My ship probably has. So don't go grabbing any bone saws on my watch."

The thought of bringing Bell to his ship had occurred to him. For all of its quirks, the ship had no problem with people visiting and entering it. Several had already seen the place, and the aforementioned triste with Delise. It was, of course, protective of Orion, as it should be. When it came to its own safety, however, he was unsure. Bell sounded like the kind of person who would want to pick apart the ship as well as the glove, and its spares. He hoped that if she visited, and if she decided to dissect, the ship would give a bit of warning before doing anything hasty.

Bell's refusal to hold a potion tasting party for him got Orion to turn around with an evil/playful little smirk on his face. Then, walking back over the Bell, he crossed his arms and looked down at her.

"Is that a proposition I hear, Bell? Because I don't exactly have much more to offer in terms of knowledge, so all I got is... physical goods."

“I like your ship already. Maybe we can have a chat about you some time, just the two of us.” She doubted she would get very far if it was loyal to him, but it still sounded damn interesting.

Bell gave Orion a pseudo-innocent smile, as if completely oblivious to the expression on his face. Man, what she would give to be taller than him…

“A proposition? I dunno.” She shrugged. “I mean, I haven’t even seen what you have to offer. How am I supposed to decide?”

"Well then. I'm glad you're interested. Perhaps we should close the door and have a look at my wares--"

It was none-too-obvious what Orion had in mind and what his intentions were, considering that he had stepped even closer to Bell and even ran gentle finger up and down her arm. The glint in his yellow eyes and the toothy grin could only have meant a very specific set of things, and he was just about ready to act on them.

Until he felt a sudden painful twinge his head. His eyes clamped shut for a moment and he made a movement like someone was yanking a chain around his neck. His mind's eye saw a tut-tut-ing finger and he knew what was up.

"Delise..."

The Succubus' thrall was still active on him. He had readily agreed to it because he liked for her to be on top, so to speak, but he had forgotten that it would also make it... difficult to indulge in other physical pleasantries with other women. It was a shortcoming he had not thought about, and now regretted.

As he held his head and looked at Bell, he brought back his smile, but stepped back.

"Ehehe... How about... a deal instead? If you can do something for me, I'll take you to my ship. And THEN we could have a little... cultural exchange~"
