Alternate Reality Simulator: Midnight in Suburbia

- No real 50's music. Use The Baseballs or Postmodern Jukebox. Listen, it's a meme.
- Yes, you remember what happens after. It's like a dream, and if you were traumatized, you can have your memories erased.
- You can be imperfect with your slang. It's made by aliens. They don't know shit about the 50's.
- It doesn't do any permanent brain alterations.
- Backgrounds don't have to be 1 = 1 equivalents. Try out some wacky new relations!
- Your identity depends on the name, gender and occupation you input in the system, but how it interprets is entirely up to you. When using an entirely different name, put it in a parenthesis. For example, Johnson Dickbutt (Poppy/Joker).
- Aliens can participate. They'll have information about Earth inputted in their brains.
- Think of this more of as a video game than the actual 1950's. If there were things in the 1950's that would be iffy to incorporate, say the standards department didn't approve of it. Characters of color, LGBT and women can play roles the others can. They still experience prejudice, but they're frowned upon instead of outright not allowed.


- VR starts with a cinematic and a town hall meeting. Mayor announces that Jerry's wife, Anne Price, is missing.
- Shawn says something's up with his girlfriend, Melissa.
- Jerry seems convinced that Anne's dead.
- Detective Conner comes in, and she says that this is just a number of off repeated behavior.
- Felix reveals that a white van's been circling the town over and over.
- There's a commotion where Louis beats up Shawn for breaking into his house to try and see Melissa.
- White van circles Dorian's neighborhood. Shay takes a pic of it.
- Dog brings them a circuit board.
- Felix found a finger attached to the bottom of a trash can. Speculation that Jerry might know something about it.
- Cooper brings meatloaf to Jerry. He feeds him.
- Felix confronts Jerry about the finger. Jerry reacts to it. Toby confirms his wife's corpse has been dismembered and spread in trash cans. The gang look for body parts in a dumpsite.
- They find more body parts. A man in white watches them from beyond the fence.
- Shawn and Malory finally confront Melissa. Melissa gets kidnapped then dropped by Shawn, which made her malfunction. A scientist shoots her from behind the bushes.
- Felix smashes her body and finds a circuit board. It's convincing, but the blood tastes different. Everyone checks if they're robots by tasting their blood.
- Caterina brings Felix more body parts.
- Barbara finds out Shawn's gone. She goes out to look for him and gets intercepted by Jerry. Felix and Justice try to contain the scene, but Felix gets shot trying to get Alice away. Justice shoots Jerry on the arm before Jerry gets away.
- Jimmy's is boarded up, there's makeshift beds, and Mal informed the town via radio.
- Barbara calls Mal's radio show from beyond the grave to look for her boy. Caterina and Felix go out to look for Barb's body but find nothing.
- Mal got attacked in her radio booth by Jared. She killed him, but she fainted soon after. Dorian and Mia came in and took her to Jimmy's.

Day 2

- Louis wakes everyone up by shooting down Jimmy's door, looking for Shawn. Mia, Irene and Kat tell him snippets of what happened. He doesn't quite believe them and goes out to look for answers himself. The cops told him Shawn killed Melissa.
- Felix comes back covered in blood. Talks about how the PD's forensics and higher ups have been infiltrated. The chief tried to kill him, and he is now a renegade cop. He also said the van is looking for Shawn. Wherever Shawn goes, the van follows. He proposed this: Use Shawn as bait. Put him in the school and wait for the van to find him, then use the terrain to their advantage.
- The group gets divided in two. One base, one search party.
- Base: They get interrogated by a cop. Jerry's dog, Cooper, shows up. Cooper leads Addy outside and gets Addy nabbed by a scientist.
- Search: They went into Toby's shop. No Shawn, but the next door candy man is snooping around. He attacks him. Turns out he killed one of the Freakshows' guys' girlfriends and stuffed her in the bathroom. They go into the warehouse and find Shawn. Regrouped at the diner.
- Klaus comes in with his men pissed off about Addy. They work out a deal: Klaus cooperates with Felix but no kids, no injured people, and none of his family.
- Felix, Alice and Charles head out to fortify the school. Charles plants a bomb.
- School fight! A number of things happen. Barbara shows up, which immediately gets shot down by Felix. While inspecting the body, it blows up at Caterina, injuring her. Louis Cook shows up looking for Shawn. Slams a door at Mal and shoots her, injuring her. He gets gunned down by Vatar, Irene and Klaus. Klaus ends him. Shawn escapes into the vents.
- The scientists show up with Addy. Charles convinces Shawn to come out of the vents. Shawn reveals that he knows a little too much, that the scientist base is under the "Nothing ever happens" Sunset Valley sign. He agrees to go with Charles. The scientists give them back Addy. While giving Shawn, Shawn shoots through Charles to kill Scientist #1. Scientist #2 shoots Shawn from the front seat.
- Everyone heads off into the Rosales base while agreeing they're going to storm the base while they're weak.

Tom's RPCS for the event:

Tobias York is the leader of the local greaser gang called the Freakshows. They have cool leather jackets and destroy public property sometimes, and are mostly made up of teen and young adult men. If you want to be in the gang, go ahead and tell me! Additionally, Toby will be less squicky for this AU, more bad boy archetype, even if a particularly weird one sometimes. Expect confidence and toughness.

Toby also owns and runs a barber shop kind of place called York Hairstyling and Makeup, and is more friendly and well behaved at his work, though still a punk. He'll often help Freakshows members with their hair or offer them work there. He also lives above his shop in a little apartment, though doesn't stay in there very much, going around the neighborhood instead to be a menace. He originally was from Jersey but moved here, for some reason.

Klaus Rosales is a mobster, kingpin of the Rosales Gang. Duh. He's classier than the local greaser gang kids, but the fact that he's a feared criminal isn't a secret, he's just a polite one, with a cute nosy daughter Eroshay (Foxy) and an italian mobster husband Vito (Poppy), plus some other kiddos. They live in the richer area, in a very, very nice house. He's also Dorian Crawford's uncle on his mother's side.

Tom's Official Event NPCs:

Jerry Price is out for revenge after the death of his wife. He's also a nutty raccoon man who digs through other people's trash. Cooper is his dog, who brings him food.

Detective Conner is a private eye who wants to prove herself after facing sexism and doubt. She's been following the conspiracy for a year.

Melissa Cook was Shawn's girlfriend and the first robot found, who acted like an extra generic NPC and repeated dialogue.

Scientist #2 was one of the final bosses, or something like that! He likes freaking people out and thought he was immortal from mutations, but turns out... he wasn't.

I'm throwing Cat into the event. Would anyone be interested in acting as her legal guardian or godparent, or something similar?

Detective Felix Verma is a loose cannon cop who doesn't play by the rules. He'll do anything to get to the bottom of the mysteries plaguing Sunset Valley, by any means necessary. He is happily married to his wife Glenda (NPC). They have a son, Harry (NPC), who once stuck a thumb tack in Jett's son's arm. What a good boy. He lives next to Jett Lavelle.

Dorian Crawford is a rich businessman who owns the local TV Station, Lux. He is happily married with his wife, Mia. No kids yet, but they're hoping! They live at the richer part of town but are surprisingly down to Earth, if a little silly.

Updated my listing a bit! Toby has a store-- and Klaus has a husbando, thanks to the added detail about prejudice in the info post (check it out!).

Sabriel has lived in Sunset Valley his whole life. He works for his cousin, Dorian Crawford, at the local TV station, where he is a cameraman. Though a little socially awkward, he is generally a cheerful and outgoing person.

Looking for: family members! Sabe doesn't have much of a family IRL, and I'd like him to have a big happy family in the VR, because that would be the most idyllic thing for him.

Genevieve moved to Sunset Valley a couple years ago, after World War II ended. She's originally from England and moved here to start over. She opened up a chocolate store, which is well known and well loved in the community. Genevieve is happly married to Tucker Watanabe (hyperhurricane).

Loralei Bateman is a housewife/mother who married young. She does most of the housework and bake a mean apple pie, but her appearances are somewhat deceptive. She’s a sly fox with a sharp tongue and a pistol hidden in her petticoat. She takes no shit whatsoever, and if you enter her house you’d best follow her rules.

Jericho ‘Angelface’ O’Malley Is a young, recently graduated high school student who turned to the wrong crowd with good intentions. He may be a cronie in the Freakshow gang, but he’s got a heart of gold. He wishes to be a musician but for now spends his time sweeping up hair at York Hairstyling. He drives a beaten up 1946 Harley Davidson motorcycle and spends his nights wooing customers. Or trying to, anyway.

Bradley Davis runs Jimmy's Shake Shack where all the kids hang out. Oddly in the know while keeping out of people's business. He's got a hot young wife and a baby girl. Also fought in the Pacific DURING THE GOD DAMN WAR! Is a bit eccentric and cray because this is the 50's and ptsd isn't real.

Theodore Hudson-Defan and Simon the virtually inseparable boy and dog duo often seen kicking it with Shay Rosales. Simon is a pure bred German shepherd, Theo is a foul mouthed little punk with a fascination for monster movies and comic books. They originally hail from Brooklyn and his parents run a new but fairly popular bakery. Good kid at heart, just rough.
