An alarm went off in the back of Murphy's head, screaming at him to bolt, to get the fuck out of there as soon as possible. His legs trembled as Milk began to write and change again, his stomach knotting up in primal fear. He didn't know why he stood his ground, but something moving against every one of his senses rooted him in place. He needed to be here, he needed to stand his ground, but hell if he knew why.

"Milk..." he ventured quietly. "I'm... I'm sorry, I didn't realize-"

Milk continued to punch with more fervor, faster and faster, her fists slamming against the rock. Murphy could hear the large footfalls behind him getting closer and closer, before he heard a deafening roar sound behind him.

Before he could say anything, a large force slammed into his shoulder, sending him spinning to the ground, an intense pain shooting up his arm. He landed on his back, he could see there was now a very very large bear standing on it's hind legs in front of him, roaring. The beast took a step forward, before another rage filled roar sounded from behind Murphy. One he'd heard before. Milk.

The girl stomped forward, standing between Murphy and the bear. Murphy caught a glimpse of her brown eyes as she stormed past him. The brown orbs were very clearly filled with flaming rage, Milk's mouth twisted into a growl. The bear took another step forward, challenging Milk.

The girl leaned back, roaring to the sky. As she roared, the bubbling and writhing got worse, before it finally happened. Sharp bits of bone pierced through Milks skin. Her fists now had Wolverine-like spikes jutting out from them, rough and sharp looking. Up her arm were more spines, larger ones near her shoulders. No blood left Milks body though, the bones seeming to meld into the skin they came from, like a rhino's horn.

She charged forwards towards the bear, still roaring like a beast. The bear roared in response, but Milk soon tackled it, sending both her and the bear rolling into the treeline, beyond Murphy's current field of vision. He could certainly hear the fight though. Bestial roars and the cracking of trees permeated through the forest, smaller wildlife coming screaming out of the treeline and past Murphy. Good god...

He'd felt more than heard the thing behind him, but even as he turned something smashed him to the ground followed by the uncomfortably familiar feeling of his arm breaking. He unleashed a series of expletives which were immediately drowned by an ear splitting roar as the beat bare down upon him, only to be matched by the only sound he could have feared more... that of an angry Milk.

Murphy would later reflect on what he saw, if he lived. But in the moment something that he assumed to be Milk intervened, thankfully on his behalf. She screamed like a demonic monstrosity and erupted into pale, deadly spikes that seemed to be made out of... oh... oh god so that was her power. After she'd tackled the hell-bear away from him and into the treeline he lay there for a moment, trying to work up the nerve to try to move. Regardless of his adjustment to pain, this was going to really really suck.

With great difficulty he rose to sitting, and with the help of a tree, to standing and searched for them. They weren't hard to find, broken trees and torn earth lay in their wake. It was difficult to make out, but there was a lot of blood covering them both, and he prayed that it was only the bear's. Even through the haze of adrenaline he realized that he had a choice to make, she would PROBABLY be okay on her own... but was he willing to just run away like always? She had always been there in the situations he'd needed her, and never once had she even flinched when stepping into danger. If he bolted now, he doubted he'd be able to face her again.

He looked around for a weapon of some sort. There were plenty of rocks he could hurl if he had use of both of his arms. There were sticks, but he doubted that a sharp stick would do much to anything that was going toe to toe with Milk. He doubted he could even find a big enough stick around with all of the trees torn up and ready to... collapse...

He double checked the area, in their frenzied fighting the pair had damaged many of the giant trees that made up the forest's majority. Ancient pines that were several tons could cause a lot of damage when they fell. "Fuck it, you only live once yeah?" he hissed to himself, and then he closed his eyes and focused.

Somewhere inside of him, deep within the recesses of his memory he could feel the source of entropy lurking, waiting and growing in power to cause some sort of grief in his life. Every day he'd woken up with the fear that his power was going to surge out of control, and he'd learned to identify and repress it as long as he remained calm. It had done it's job well enough, with only minor setbacks occurring rather than full blown catastrophes.

He focused on that energy, and began to feed into it. All of the fear, all of the anger and annoyance, all of the confusion and terror he locked up away behind a wall of logic came surging forward, and he felt the power grow as an ominous creaking echoed through the forest. What if I die here? was the first thought What if my arm never heals? What if I fail my classes and I have to leave? What if I can never control my powers? Every fear he'd ever encountered flew through his mind unchecked and he gave himself into that panic. But it wasn't until one final terror hit him that his power fully manifested itself. What if Milk dies because of me?

With the fortress walls of his mind finally breached, all hell broke loose.

Milk could see nothing but red. She had fallen back on her basic instincts with her rage leading the helm. The bear was a threat. A challenge. The girl continued to slug away at the bear, her bone covered fists piercing deep into the animal with each swing, covering Milk in the blood of the bear.

To it's credit, the bear managed to last a very long time, swinging back at Milk and roaring. It hit her a few times and sent her to the ground, but she kept getting up, seemingly uninjured sans for large bruises.

It was a close fight, hard to tell who would win. That's when the forest exploded.

Loud cracks echoed throughout the woods as trees splintered, their bases whittling away with an unseen saw. They toppled like dominoes, one crashing into the other and sending them crashing down with earth-shaking thuds. A few collapsed in between Milk and the bear, effectively ending the fight. The bear, deciding it wanted to live another day, ran off.

A tree was falling directly in a path that would lead it to crush Milk. The girl, roaring again, gave a final uppercut into the falling tree, cracking it in half.

She stood there, panting, the bones around her arms receding into her skin again, leaving the brown skin unmarked. Aside from the large bruises from the bear though. She glanced over to Murphy, and her eyes widened. A final tree was falling. It was going to land on him, and he wasn't paying attention.

The fighter charged and leaped at the unlucky student, trying to tackle Murphy out of harms way. Would she make it in time?

It was hard to tell just what the hell was going on when he'd turned loose. He was aware of movement beneath him as tendril like roots pulled up from the ground and the giant towers of lumber began to crash all around. The noise of the falling trees were like thunder, and amidst it he could hear Milk still fighting her ursine opponent. With a small feeling of satisfaction he saw the trees fall between her and the creature hopefully crushing the damned thing, the he felt the feedback coming.

In that moment, time seemed to stop for Murphy, and he became aware of three very distinct things: First, Milk had turned towards him and was hauling ass this way. Second, his legs had given out and he began to crumple to the ground. Finally, one of the trees he'd affected was falling directly towards him. He felt his knees hit the forest floor, and fell backwards, everything else in his vision became increasingly blocked by the giant pine that would likely be his death. He tried to move, tried to scramble out of the way but after years of trial and error, he'd finally discovered his physical limit. He closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable, and the last thing he saw was Milk diving over him... trying to protect him again, followed by a sickening crunch, then blackness.

When Murphy's eyes awokened, he would notice two things.

One. He was moving.

Two. He was being held.

As he realized the second thing, he would then be aware of the surprisingly dull pain in his arm. It hurt like hell, but didn't feel broken anymore...

It wasn't too hard for him to guess who was carrying him. Especially since she was covered in blood.

If he was being completely honest with himself, Murphy would admit he was surprised he opened his eyes at all. He was alive, he assumed, it hurt too much to really assume that he was dead yet... or he was in hell, one of the two. He was moving, though not by his own power and when his vision stopped swimming he was relieved to see that it was Milk carrying him.

He closed his eyes and took a breath, taking stock of what he could feel in his own body. His leg was thrashed with bruising and lacerations up most of it, his chest felt like it had been put into a compressor and left there for a few hours, his knuckles still stung and his arm... actually, his arm felt pretty good all things considered. He could have sworn it was broken but after an experimental swing he confirmed that while it stung like hell, he still had full use of it. All in all it had been far less lethal than he'd expected it to be.

He tried to speak but at first only managed a wheezing cough. After several more breaths he managed to slur out, "Y'all right Milk?"

Milk glanced down at Murphy when he started shifting about. Milk looked similar to how she normally did. The only differences were that her hair was mussed up, she had a few bruises and lacerations all over her arms, and she was covered in blood. Her forearms and chest were the worst off, leaving a few stains on Murphy as well. She did have a few splatters on her face as well, smudged from where she had wiped it off.

"I am fine. You are injured. Do not attempt to move." She spoke, her normal monotone back in her tone.

He put up a cursory struggle but quickly gave up. It wasn't like he could break her grip in a good day let alone like this. Milk seemed relatively fine aside from some cosmetic damage and the bloodstains, she probably could have taken the bear without his interference. Great, add one more to the 'I fucked up' tally.

Murphy didn't say anything for a while, things hurt too much to really think straight. Eventually his mind prodded him into action though and he sighed. "I'm sorry Milk, I fucked up more than usual there. I had no right to bring up your past, I made an assumption when I should have listened, and I almost got myself killed when you could have handled a dangerous situation."

He glared out at the forest and spat. "I'm fuckin' useless."

Milk paused, looking down at the injured student in her arms. "Do not apologize. It is not important." She set Murphy down on a stump nearby. The forest was thinning, but they were still in it. She must not have been walking for very long. She stood in front of him, her arms crossed, looking down at Murphy with a frown.

"You are not useless. Do not say that."
