"Another one gave up on me....Am I really that hopeless?"

Every since she came to Starlight Miya hasn't been able to keep a teacher for more then a few weeks or days with how uncontrollable her flames can be sometimes. They understood it wasn't her fault but what could so do? Miya tries so hard to control her powers and prevent accidents. She listens to every detail and instruction given and yet time after time she moves to different instructors because "Her powers are too unstable for their tastes."

Miya had received the news that morning that she had a new instructor who could possibly help her learn to control her powers. She wasn't very hopeful as she never was given names so she did not know who her instructor would be till she got there. This was strange though. Why was she supposed to met her instructor at the lake? Sure there was lots of water but without her coat on it would just begin to boil and evaporate. Not like she could swim in it either without turning it into boiling water.

The note had described a bench with a bag sitting under it. The bag was things she would need in terms of snacks, special contains holding water for her, and other things she normally had to carry that were specially made to keep herself able to live like a normal person. Seeing the bench Miya walks over to it with a sad look on her face and opens it up to grab the canteen she was so used to seeing and taking a drink from it. Well she was glad she could drink it without turning the water into warm or boiling water. Even if that was the case Miya was so used to it that it was just normal water for her.

"Wonder how long before I get transferred to another instructor again... I wish I wasn't such a problem child. Well I should say I hate my powers but whose listening or caring. Five years and I still have made little progress so what's the point. Maybe I should just go live in a volcano. Well no I'd make it erupt....Maybe an island or in the desert. Just get supplies delivered to me. Just a lonely life keeping to myself....Yeah..."

Miya's elbows find her knees as she stares off into the lake. Sometimes she didn't know wither or not she should just do that. Get away from civilization and just live like a hermit. It certainly would mean no one really had to look after her or get special things prepared just so she didn't burn down the place.

Octain was handed a sheet of paper from his Personal Assistant. Some kind of student was transferred into his personal tutelage. He rolled his eyes for a moment and stood up from his desk in his office and tossed his cloak on. "Mark the tests please." Octain said as the assistant gleefully assisted her friend and mentor. His cloak was put on and the hood almost went up on it's own. Taking some time he enchanted the door to teleport him to the top of the clock tower coming out of a door.

This.. Miya.. Seemed to be someone who had no control over her ability with fire. Or something along those lines and had sent another teacher to the hospital. Though Octain was no normal teacher. He was a Magistar. He was a leader in Magic. He was the epitaph. Even if he was the only one who stood from his ivory tower. When he saw someone. pulling out binoculars he smiled. "Found you girl." He said as he looked at the lake and jumped into the air. A small ruin appeared on the ground that went over Miya and then stopped in the lake. The masked figure slowly moved to the ground and landed in the water.

He put his hand into the air and created a fire whip as he hit it on the ground. A splash of water followed it's wake as it vanished. The Great and Powerful Octain has awoken. It was time.

He walked over to her. Sitting on the bench beside her. Taking off his mask to reveal a dark face. One that must have been altered by magical means as he took a swig from a water bottle and put the mask back on. None of his face was visible as he looked at her.

"Miya. I presume. Fear not. I am a friend. I was offered to instruct you due to your... Interesting. Powers. I was like you once. Afraid of my powers. The force of which I hold. Now. I wield the Arcane with finesse." He stood up. "I am Orias Octain. Ranked Magistar." He said looking down at her. Octain was a force that shouldn't be enraged. Though he seemed more different than some people told him. When he taught privately. He was a different person. Almost Evil.

"Stand." He said moving towards the lake. He stood in the water as he had his back turned around. Looking at Miya. "What is the problem. Speak freely. There are no notes. No books. Only us." He said. His cloak waiving in the wind as it picked up. Something wasn't right with her if she wasn't able to control her magic. He tried to find out what it was. Possibly a catalyst for now to use her spells? He would need to watch her to see what the girl needed.

"How old are you young one?" He said. turning his cloak into a cape. Looking at her as he was in his vest, shorts, boots and slowly put on gloves as he grabbed the spine on his spell book and looked at her. Flipping it open as if trying to find notes on something. "Tell me your history of trying to learn this."

"The fuck?"

Miya watched as the shadow of something crossed her vision above her. Miya watched as some strange person in a robe and with a mask on appeared standing there. Was this her new instructor? Seeing him put his hand out Miya almost instinctively put her own to throw a fireball in self defense when all the figure did was make a whip of fire and crack it against the lake before making it disappear. Was this a show of power or just the figure warming up?

The figure walked over to the bench and sat next to her. At first Miya was worried she might overheat the man but something told her that whatever she normally did to people wouldn't effect him either as much or at all. As the man pulled back his mask Miya's eyes widened when all that was there was a shadows out hood. There was a head in the hood, but it was concealed. What kind of magic did this new instructor know? Taking a drink from his own water bottle the man slide the mask back on. She was intimidated that's for sure. If this was her new instructor he made one hell of an entrance.

As the man spoke Miya found out and her eyes widened more once hearing the man's name. She had a Magistar as her new instructor? She knew what the title meant and that means either they were terrified of her powers harming another teacher or she was going to "be a challenge" of sorts. This made her a little more fearful even though his words calmed her a bit.

As Miya watched Octain walk away he stopped in the water, only turning his head towards her. Miya stood upon hearing the command and got up, her hands reaching into her pockets and pulling out her special gloves just to be safe. Any chance of things backfiring or accidentally happening was something she didn't want.

"Problem?...I think the best way to describe it is that....I'm fearful of accidentally harming people around me. While my control over fire is horrible, it's only part of what bothers me. It's the high heat that my body naturally produces. It doesn't seem like much right now because my jacket was designed to keep the heat from spilling out. It traps it inside and allows for me to be around people in school without causing too much harm. When I have it off I'm commonly told it feels like a hot summer day. It has caused things to spontaneously combust or make the fire I'm trying to wield at the time even stronger and more difficult for me to control. The major problem is everything is able to catch on fire to a certain degree. So the more heat I emit, the hotter it gets, the stronger the flames get, the temperature rises more, and then things tend to explode or catch on fire."

This was a standard question she was used to answering. However despite it being something she has to commonly talk about the tone in her voice still held respect in it. Anyone taking time to come help her deserved that much. Just to demonstrate Miya removed her jacket and placed it neatly on the bench, still open, and waited a couple minutes as the air became hot and heavy and the temperature began to rise and make the area around them extremely hot. Miya looked at the lake and watch for any signs of boiling. Miya grabbed for her jacket the moment she started to see the bench start to smoke. Putting it back on it too another few minutes for the area to return to the normal temperature, the bench giving a little bit of smoke but nothing worrisome.

Before she could begin again Octain asked for her age and the history behind her trying to learn to control her powers.

"I'm...I'm 19 Mr. Octain. Magistar Octain? I'm sorry don't know what to call you exactly or what you would prefer. I guess my training started when I first came to Starlight. It started off routine for them. Helping me understand my powers, helping me find what they were exactly, and how to control them. It started out fine for a while. I could control small fires and keep things under control. That was when I was fifteen. A year later is when the major issues began to appear. At first it just seemed like the AC was broken or the day was just too hot until my room caught fire one night. I was fine but the dorm was burned to the ground. Most got out alive. Others escaped with third degree burns and have scars from it still. One....One...."

Miya stopped as she started to remember about that night. She was holding back her tears despite telling this story a time and time again yet it was always difficult. Like the screaming she heard nearly every night from the drunk driver. Composing herself she continues, abit with a teary sounded voice at first that corrected itself back to her normal tone.

"One boy almost died. They told me that if he hadn't been in the kitchen when it happened he would have more then likely died. The boy hid in the freezer but it caught fire and began to melt with him still inside, trapped. Someone who had high resistance to fire ran inside and saved the boy before any major damage was done. He escaped with the worst burn marks. And no one blamed me or hated me for it. It just happened.

Since then I started going from one teach to another, each trying their own method to help me gain control of my flames. At first they believed the heat came from the fires I made and thought they were just really powerful. Then one noticed that things began to catch fire and melt after I had left the room. It was then they had realized that I was producing such a massive amount of body heat that it was interfering with my powers. So they got some fancy tailor to make me a whole wardrobe of clothing at no cost to myself. Every piece of clothing and sewn object like pillows, blankets, and towels are fire proof and don't combust from just the heat I produce. And because no one wanted to test their luck, or safety, they made the jacket I'm wearing to help cover my hair during training. The jacket itself was long enough to cover my tall frame and they believed it would help limit my power to the point of being able to control.

Only it did the opposite. With the jacket on while it keeps all the heat inside and doesn't expel it out like if I had it off, it also means any flames I create will automatically draw from that powerful heat source and inturn become far stronger. Stronger then I can control. Time and time again I would panic and people got hurt. And then the screams....They start once more. The screaming of my failure...Of all the times....Him..."

Miya began to get more silent after she spoke about the screaming. She looked at the ground and used her hair to hide her face, to keep the tears in her eyes from showing. She rarely got this much out but she believed someone with the title of Magistar needed all the information they needed to help understand or find out some reason to her issue. Wiping her eyes she looks back up at Octain.

"What doesn't help is every time I injure an instructor it isn't just like a small burn that will go away with cold water. It's something terrible. They catch on fire, their body is scaring. One almost died of dehydration. Well...Almost all of them nearly die and yet, people still line up to try and help me. I'm surprised I haven't been placed in isolation....Then again my room is kept a good distance from the other girls and has a few magic barriers in place on the chance everything they did to make the room fireproof gets thrown out the window. If there is anything out of what I've told you that you think could be the problem or help I would love to know. So far people just think I'm too inexperienced or trying too hard that I screw up or things like that. That I'm just not exactly strong enough to control the power I wield."

Miya sounded almost desperate to learn the cause of why she was unable to do anything or control it. She wanted a normal life. Not one where everything had to be made especially for her. That extra precautions were made just for her. She hoped that Octain could help here. But as with every teach that has come and gone, she had little hope at this point to finding a real answer.

He noticed that the bench was on fire and that the lake was getting a little heated. Though he did not care at all. He was used to worse. FAR worse. Though he wasn't going to let fear stop him. "You are afraid of you power Miya. You allow your powers to take over. It's will is stronger than yours. Magic is a powerful being. I will help you. Not because I was asked to. Because you need it."

Octain undid his cloak tossing it away it flew onto a rock and stayed there. Showing Octain had many scars, burns and other injures, some of them not yet healed fully. He walked over to her and got on one knee. Even if it was in the water. The whispers of a dead language filled the air. He put a hand on her shoulder and smiled under his mask. Trying to make her feel better. "It is a shame that those teachers are not here. You have a gift that no one else has."

"Have some hope. You may injure me, but I will not give up. I have yet to meet someone I could not assist. It may be hard." He moved his hand onto her head. Messing up her hair a bit. "There is no one on this island that isn't worth the trouble to help. Each person is special in there own way. Your powers are just young and require guidance." He put his hand on her cheek and slapped in a few times as he stood back up. A small rock had hovered. Wet from being in the water.

"Have faith in yourself. Or Believe in me. Who believes in you. Can you heat up that rock?" He said, he was using a spell to hold it up. Though it seemed like a lot. Just some concentration. Though maybe his means would need to be a little.. Off. Though this was going to be an interesting day. He was going to stick close to her. Just to see how she went about using her powers.

"Afraid?...Well that's not entirely false..."

It was true Miya was afraid of her powers. After years of teachers getting hurt, random fires, and nearly killing people Miya had developed a fear of her powers. She didn't want to harm others but knew full well what would happen if she lost control. That day still haunts her mind and she would rather not repeat it.

Miya looked at Octain and....Was more impressed then anything. Everything about his body screamed hardship with all the injuries, scars, and just everything all over him. She heated up slightly upon feeling Octain's hand on her shoulder. Well he was different from her previous teachers. He didn't care what happened to him. No precautions, no magical barriers, no wards. All he wanted to do was help her understand and control her powers and from his words and actions she believed him. The few little slaps to her face did nothing to make her doubt him. Hell it made her want to not fail the guy. A look of determination filled her eyes as she started to tie her hair into the ribbons she had brought. After a couple minutes she was done and looked at the rock.

"Heat it up? Alright this shouldn't be too difficult."

Miya turned towards the rock and took a few steps from Octain and looked at the rock. Raising her right hand she aims her palm at it as she begins to focus solely on the rock, her left hand finding itself on her right forearm to help her focus more without wearing herself out.

It didn't take long for the water underneath it to start bubbling which she quickly refocused on the rock alone, the water slowly returning to normal. She could see the rock start to slowly dry and the air around it give off heatwaves from the concentration she was putting into simply NOT setting the thing on fire. She was sure that given the signs she was seeing the rock was heated up or in the process of doing so.

"If that thing isn't hot enough to cook an egg off of than I'd be surprised at this point."

Orais looked at her. Watching her concentrate as he came up with an idea for the next task. A diversion. "Be not afraid. Your powers feed on your fears. Especially fire. You must learn to gather your will. To face what rests inside of you. The fire that burns bright inside. Harness it. GATHER it." He said. he was standing a about two meters from the rock as he watched it. Hearing it heat up as he nodded his head.

Octain could feel the heat off the rock. The air becoming dry as he seemed next to unphased by it. Surviving on the desert for a few years made him accustomed to this as he dropped the rock into the water. using both of his hands as his spell book open and began to spin around him. Two rock now hovering into the air on either side of him. Both closer to him than the last one.

"Both now."

He said. Using magic to hold them up into the air. Almost like in the star wars movies when someone used the force to pick up an object. Though he could pick up small objects using a simple trick.. Helping her to control her powers would be interesting. "Quiet your mind. let no thoughts pass through. Focus souly on the rocks. Imagine them in your hands. That you can hold them. Reach out for them."

"Don't be afraid...."

She repeated his words to herself. Was it really that simple? Her flames had brought so much sadness and destruction. Her own body was proof of that. What if it really was all she needed to do? Not be afraid of her powers?

With the rock in the way Miya let her focus drop a bit so she could better think of the words Octain spoke. They....Were far better then what she was told in the past. To just focus, ignore everything else. Nothing really told her that she shouldn't fear her fire.

As two more rocks, closer to Octain it seemed she couldn't really tell, Miya nodded her her and took in a few shallow breaths as she closed her eyes. She repeated "Don't be afraid" to herself a few times as she raised both her hands and focused on the two rocks. She opened them and kept her focus, though obviously frightened about harming Octain with how close the rocks were. She didn't want to accidentally burn him like the other teachers. Even with how he showed his own injuries early, she didn't want to add to that list.

Miya could see steam rising from the water under the rocks, which caused her to move the heat more away from the water. She then noticed what she was starting to do. Her massive body heat was being focused like how she would focus to keep it repressed and hidden.

And this is when she lost focus at the small realization. Fire began to spring around the two rocks which caused Miya to panic slightly as she tried to keep the fire from spreading too far. What she managed to do was keep the flames dancing on the top of the two rocks like they were some sort of wall torches in a cave.

"Uhh....Well....Does catching them on fire count as heating them up?"

She didn't know if she did good, bad, or inbetween. She just kept her focus on the fire and keeping it from spreading, forgetting about just making the rocks heat up. She knew what could happen if she didn't keep as much focus on the flames as possible.

Octain watched her concentrate as he could feel the heat. His eyes showed no fear. No pain. Only the fear he places on others. His eyes glared at Miya. The heat getting stronger and stronger. The only words going through his head were...

'No fear. None. Fire is mine. I am a Magistar.'

Before he could react fast enough he felt the water heat up. Scalding hot as his books were soaked in it. His body trembling slightly as he took a deep breath. Tossing the rocks into the air. It wasn't hard for him to hold his concentration on the spell. The heat wasn't enough to make him sweat. He wanted to get the rocks to put themselves out as they landed into the water with a sizzle.

"You lost focus Miya!"

He said moving out of the water. His eyes looking at her. "You can't panic. Your fire feeds off of it."

He sat down infront of her. "Sit. Meditate with me."

He put his spell book on the ground in front of him as he close his eyes. His hands resting on his kneels as he was sitting on his feet. His orange eyes were no more as he took a deep breath.

"Calm your heart.. Calm your soul.. Tell me everything you see... Every second. Do NOT mince words."

He was adept at it as he could feel his heart beat slow. His pulse slow. Almost to a faint hum in his body. Feeling himself going into a state of peace and tranquility. Listening adamantly.

"The first step.. Is understanding.. I have the data i needed.. Now it's time for you to understand. To face it."

Miya flinched as she heard Octain's words. She knew she lost focus, but she also felt fortunate that there was enough water to put out the fire. She lowered her hand and stared at the ground. Her thoughts was she didn't hurt him, or at least he didn't show signs of being injured.

Her eyes looked up as she heard Octain walking out of the water. She couldn't tell what the man was feeling or if he was even angry with her. It seemed more that he was like an actual teacher letting their student know they did something wrong. And she was okay with this. She lost focus and almost caused another accident.

Sitting down Miya looked at Octain and didn't really understand. Meditate? The things that monks in stories did? She didn't know how to even begin to do so. She tried relaxing her body and her make her mind blank. It might be the best way to get into such a state. She attempted to do what she could to try and relax more.

"Alright....," Miya took a deep breath and started to slow her breathing, her own eyes closing. She had her own relaxing techniques she would use to help keep herself from overheating and from over-focusing. What she didn't understand was how to say what she saw. She would try. That all she could offer.

"A blank room. White. Nothing around in any direction. A mirror suddenly appears before me after taking in the room. The reflection....Shows a figure on fire. Nothing to tell who or what it is, just human in shape. Slowly the fire begins to grow and engulf the figure. The reflection pans out like a camera in a movie showing a large green field.....It...The figure is burning in the middle of the field. Slowly the fire begins to expand as the green slowly changes to brown or black. Can't tell. The flames begin spreading at a rapid pace as the field is engulfed. The figure is no longer on fire. The mirror pans back in and shows....."

Miya paused. She knew he said not to do anything of the sort, but she had to collect herself. The image was one she didn't like. One she had seem numerous times before in her nightmares. One that haunted her of what could happen.

"It shows....It shows.....Me. My body scarred by the fire. A look in my eyes of...Rage? Fear? I'm unsure. Could be some other emotion I'm unaware of taking place....As for myself....I...Fear this image. That I could become this beacon of destruction. Thinking like that I remember that fire isn't just destruction. It is also a chance of rebirth...."

She paused and in her mind stared at herself as it stared back. She didn't want to become this, but the fear of becoming it consumed her. The rational part of her mind knew this, but her emotional part took control most of the time. She had to collect her own thoughts. And brace for whatever Octain said next.
