Name: Luciana Meikai
Age: Unknown
Birthday: Unknown
Gender: Female
Species: Grim Reaper
Category: Citizen
Career: Escort (To the afterlife and otherwise)
Appearance Description:
Art by: Nakanoart
At first glance, she appears as a normal girl. Some may even say she was enchanting, beautiful. She has a tanned complexion, with jade green eyes that seem to beckon towards the people that look into them. On the regular, she has this soft, playful smile that captivates even the most hardened people.
Luciana has a petite figure at 5'3". She often dresses simply and modestly when she's out, preferring jeans over skirts unless she is in a formal setting.
Personality Description: Those who knew her legends regularly mistake her as a wandering spirit, a lost soul, or just a demon who takes people's lives. Some stories view her as a benevolent spirit that guides mortals to the afterlife. Others make her up to be Lucifer's minion, tempting people to sin and then killing them when they are no longer welcomed to the gates of heaven. She exhibits both of these traits, but it's not to guide them to heaven or hell, her job is simply to bring souls beyond the mortal plane. Judgment is someone else's job.
Since time is no longer a factor, she never rushes to reap the souls of the departed. It's only when the soul is ready to move on does she bring them to the other side. She is much more interested on her own enjoyment either way.
While she gets along with nearly all personality types, she does prefer to stick to people who are "dangerous". Thugs, goons, crime lords. So long as they treat her nicely, she can be good company. Due to the nature of her job, she isn't supposed to interfere with the living world, but after losing what could be her best friend in the afterlife, she craves social interaction, and mingles with all walks of life, which leads to her directly and indirectly interfering with the mortal world. But what was anyone going to do? Nobody has power over her now unless she decides to let them. Temporarily of course.
Because of what happened in her life before becoming a reaper, she has a strong dislike of any sort of abusive relationship, whether it be her own or someone else's, but she exposes herself to it as she enjoys the prospect of subjecting them to torture in the afterlife. If she ever wanted a serious relationship, she would choose someone who didn't get joy from taking advantage of their partner.
Her favorite festival so far is Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.

Biography: Luciana's career as a grim reaper started when she lost her life in a fire, saving a number of people from a burning tavern, and ended up trapped inside.
She was brought up in a very conservative family. She always got a talk whenever someone got a bit too close for her parents' liking, which made relationships hard to maintain. It was something that her older brother used to his advantage a little later in their lives. Luciana met with boys behind her parent's back, and when her brother found out and threatened Luciana on telling them, she begged, knowing that the aftermath wouldn't be pleasant, and that she could get kicked out if word ever reached her parents' ear.
And so the majority of her brother's chores went to her, the only ones he did was only because Luciana was physically unable to do so, or that it was too clear that her sloppiness was behind the work. Her brother was just as afraid of their parents, but he was more favored, using his age against anything Luciana says. So unless she had physical and undeniable proof, her arguments would be brushed off, meanwhile it only takes her brother's whisper to have her beaten at the hands of her father.
She hated her life so much, and on more than one occasion had contemplated on leaving. But every time, her guilt and fear caused her to not go through with it.
There was always a set week where their parents would go to a neighboring village to buy supplies for the winter, but now there was a difference. Her brother had found himself a maiden foolish enough to fall for him. It didn't take long for her to see what kind of person he was, and she left him, which was something Luciana was secretly wishing for. The girl deserved better than her despicable brother.
Depressed at the loss, he spent half of their money their parents left on drinks. Late that night he came home.
She was beginning to starve as he kept spending the money on drinks to forget.
On the fifth day, she decided she had enough. She couldn't find it in herself to tell anyone, because she knew her brother's silver tongue would be her downfall. So in the night before their parents would return, Luciana set the tavern ablaze once she knew her brother was good and drunk.
It wasn't until she heard the screams of those stuck inside did she realize how poorly she had thought this out. And for revenge, she was damning those who weren't tied to the abuse. Regretfully, she came to her senses and went inside the burning building, after splashing a bucket of water over herself. She nearly got everyone there out. Except her brother. She would have left him, even as he cried for help, trapped under a burning beam.
But she was too compassionate at the time, and the guilt she felt clouded her judgment. She managed to pull her brother out, but by then the roof came crashing down. The two of them were separated by debris once again. She called out for him to make a bridge from the decorations on the walls that were still not on fire, but then he just turned and left her there.
Those who were there would claim that they heard a blood-curdling screech followed by a sinister laughter as the whole tavern collapsed.
Before she died, time stopped and she was approached by an agent of death. Her soul had unfinished business, which meant she couldn't have her eternal rest, or eternal damnation. She was stuck in between. She was offered the job of a grim reaper, or take her chance at judgment. Knowing, or at least convinced that she had sinned a lot even before this, she decided to become a grim reaper.
Her assignment was a delight, she found, as she was given the tasks on reaping the souls of the people she hated, the first one being her brother's. He had suffered a lot of burns and his life was but a candle in the breeze. She wanted to make him suffer more.
She appeared at the foot of his deathbed, as he was wrapped from head to toe in herbs and bandages. Her parents were there too. Whether or not they grieved for her loss, they were too busy tending to him for her to know. At the edge of death's door, only her brother could see Luciana standing over him. His eyes widened and he started screaming. She liked seeing him like that, and so decided to hold off on taking him. But now and then, she would appear at the corner of his eye, whisper in his ear as he was close to falling asleep and finally, she dropped her diary on him.
He read the diary, and as he started reading the later entries, his blood went cold. On the last written pages were Luciana's accounts on her brother's abuse of his sister. And on the last page were writing in blood and charcoal: "WHAT WOULD THEY SAY?"
Too fixated on the book, he didn't notice his mother walk in. Before he knew it, she snatched the book up and started reading. Unable to move, Luciana's brother could only whimper. The father joined and after learning about what was written down on the diary, he close to snapping and strangling him. But no, Luciana would have let things happen, but sadly it didn't. But what she cared about the most was that her parents knew what had happened between her and her brother.
Feeling that he had suffered enough in the mortal plane, Luciana decided to end his life now and let him begin suffering in hell. But she wasn't going to let him die without a little bit more suffering. His friends had brought him a bottle of wine to comfort him. Foolishly, they put it on the shelf above his bed. It just "happened" to tip over and fall right on his head, the drink seeping into his wounds to hurt him even more. She enjoyed the screams.
When she was done, she took her scythe and separated his soul from his body, and banishing him to purgatory.
A couple of decades and centuries passed and Luciana had become less vengeful on the world. Mellowing as making her targets suffer didn't bring her any joy. Most of them anyway. She still enjoyed torturing those she finds despicable, and those who earns her sympathy get a quick death.
She enjoyed the freedom of not being bound to mortal rules. As a reaper she was given guidelines on how to act, who to take, and lectured on why she can't just target anyone she wants to for her own reasons. But everything else, she was free to do. She even returns to a physical form and interact with mortals and immortals alike, often without them knowing what she was.
The agent of death that made a pact with her was banished by some holy knight who mistook him as a wicked creature of the underworld, half-way to the present. While not entirely false, she felt a sense of great loss. Over the centuries of working with the agent, they had become close. But at the same time, she found that their love resembled a ball and chain. She was bound to him, and was inclined to do as he said. It was a situation she wasn't all too happy about, but at the same time, she enjoyed it since, unlike her family she actually liked him. Of course that was over now. She was left to her own devices as no other power could enforce their will upon her. Yet she continued what she had been doing for lifetimes. It was her duty.

Her favorite festival so far is Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.
Species Abilities:
- Reaper's Immortality — Being an agent of Death herself, the reaper can't be killed permanently. If she does "perish" she gets sent back to purgatory where she can recover. It takes a week for them to return to the mortal plane, and it takes another week for them to return to full power. This wait can be halved if they choose to stay in purgatory. Viruses and diseases can't affect the reaper, and it's not possible for her to be a carrier of such. Unless they were magical in nature.
- Reaper's Presence — Or the lack of it. The reaper can make herself visible and invisible, tangible and intangible to anyone or anything as she desires. Only those who can see spirits (naturally or with the aid of magic), or are spirits themselves can see, hear and feel the presence of the reaper when she decides to hide her presence from the naked, mortal eye. She can also change how she looks to other entities, but only in the style of cosmetic glamours. Lastly, she can choose to manipulate her own gravity, allowing her to walk on walls and ceilings as if they were the floor, or she could ignore it altogether, letting her achieve flight and hovering. She however cannot pass through objects and barriers designed to prevent entities such as spirits to phase through. That being said, it is possible to trap the reaper within magical barriers or bubbles.
- Reaper's Sight — As a reaper, she is able to see and detect souls, ghosts, spirits, demons and every other variation of the terms. She can see them through non-enchanted obstacles, but spells and wards can block this ability.
- Reaper's Guidance — The reaper can send and escort souls to purgatory at her discretion, but only if the soul wants to move on.
- Life is Poison — Healing has the opposite effect to the reaper, or at least one from this sect. As she is effectively undead, healing damages her instead. Resurrection magic is as close to a death sentence for her as they come. Of course this doesn't ultimately kill her or turn her human again, but it will return her to purgatory, but damages her soul by doing so. If she perishes through this method too many times, her soul may become too damaged to recover and be lost permanently, but it is subject to the perpetrator's intentions. Healing auras however are more manageable, depending on the type. The type that affects everyone within its range has a severely toned down output against the reaper, being only a fifth as effective. However if the aura is selective of who it affects, then it may not affect the reaper at all, unless the one emanating it chooses to, though it does suffer the lowered effect against the reaper.
- Alignment-Neutrality — Neither a force for good nor evil, the reaper is susceptible to both light and dark powers, although not as badly as either force against the other, but very close to it. While she can enter holy and unholy places, her resistance to those powers drop even more. Normally, she takes 1.7x the damage, barring any locational effects.
- Arcane Vulnerability — While she has nothing to worry about from the physical plane, she is more susceptible to magic, taking a quarter more of the damage than normal.
- Physical Frailty — The reaper can manifest themselves in the physical plane, but because they aren't meant to walk with mortals, they are only half as strong and durable as humans. When intangible, if a blow were to have a magical force with it, it will carry the weight of the physical blow, effectively allowing a physical hit on the intangible reaper.
- Reaper Binding — There are rituals that can bind a reaper to a person or an object. Once bound, the person bound to them, or whoever has possession of the object they are bound to have control over the reaper. While the reaper may resist and retain a semblance of free will, they can be forced to do as commanded until the reaper is released or the object or person is destroyed or killed. Strong and high-tiered angels and demons have been known to be capable of binding a reaper without the use of rituals.
Powers:
- Unmasked — Luciana can channel some energy to her hair (or just certain strands) which causes it to exhibit an x-ray effect, only it shows the truth behind someone's facade, their true face so to speak. This means that if seen through her hair, any cosmetic magics such as glamors can be seen through. (When viewing Luciana through her hair, it's seen that she is a skeleton.) However, this doesn't affect shape-shifters who don't use glamors. Luciana has also made an alternate use for it, in which it actually shows the skeletons of people through it. And also what lies underneath the layers of clothing they may be wearing.
- Kiss of Death — One must take care when kissing a reaper, as she can choose to use the intimate contact to induce paralysis or sleep and alter recent memories.
