Helmut Forster

Primary Helmut Forster

Name: Helmut Forster
Age: 89 90, looks around mid-20's
Birthday: Unknown
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Category: Citizen
Career: Scout

Appearance Description:

[Official art of Lawrence Nickwell from Metal Waltz/Panzer Waltz]

Helmut has a pale complexion, blue eyes and white hair. He stands at a flat 6ft and has an average build. He often carries himself with dignity but at the same time he paints his face with a kind look and humor, but his eyes are sharp.

Personality Description: Helmut is carefree around pleasant company, but he becomes much more professional and business-oriented when it comes to work and serious topics, however rarely losing his calm features. Despite how he might carry himself, he lacks empathy for people who are against him. Those who he sees is on his side, or at the very least useful to him, will find him to be pleasant and helpful company.

He is often distracted however and a bit clumsy at times, accidentally dropping things and knocking things over as if he forgot they were there in the first place. However there is always one thing that he never drops or handles carelessly, and that is his engraved Radom pistol which he always carries around with him. Should he leave the weapon behind, it always comes back to him, sometimes as if he never left it at all, or that he summons it back.

Helmut appreciates works of art, be it paintings and sculptures. Abstract paintings however are a hit or a miss with him, and he isn't afraid to be snide about it though he will outright verbally attack the piece or the person who made it, often calling one or both pretentious among other things. Snobbish as it may seem, he does go out of his way to soften blows if the situation calls for it, such as dealing with children. He's no heartless monster after all.

Active Abilities:
  • Telekinesis — Helmut can move any object no heavier than 100kg within fifty meters of himself. He can move multiple objects so long as the combined weight doesn't go over the limit.
  • Mental Assimilation — If Helmut touches someone with his bare hands, he can copy whatever they know, including whatever information they may have, fighting styles, passwords, memories etc. He can't learn any magic using this, however he would know how to use anything magical if the person he stole the knowledge from knows how to as well. This gives him a really bad headache after an hour and temporarily robs him of his senses for about 15 minutes, and the headaches only worsen if he doesn't aim to find something specific. Most of the information he absorbs rapidly decay over the course of a week unless he puts some special effort to remember something. Any physical powers such as super strength, better senses, or nightvision, etc., are not assimilated.

Passive Abilities:
  • This War of Minds — Anything that tries to affect Helmut's mind or otherwise access/sense it will receive a potentially stunning mental shock, often causing headaches to the people attempting it. Passive types may only feel a low psychic drone that affects mood negatively, as well as making one uncomfortable. Active types will feel the full force of the feedback, blocking any attempt at manipulating his mind before sending a metaphorical mental truck back at the offender. Helmut is aware of who or what is affected by the feedback when it triggers, but not the psychic drone.
  • Retroactive Foresight — There is just something mystical about Helmut. He always seems to have something hidden on his person and its almost always whatever he needs, granted he either owns the object or could, in the past five days, acquire it. It works by having part of his consciousness travel back in time up to five days and 'tell' his past self to carry around that object. In order to get this object on his person, it must be pulled out from a spot not observed by anyone, like a pocket or a bag that no one else had opened and that he owns. He must also know how to get this object and could have gotten it himself in the span of the previous five days with no help from anyone else. Historical contradictions often arise as he doesn't have complete control of how history is rewritten. There is also a higher power controlling this aspect, which means he doesn't have direct control of what he is getting. His pistol is so far the only thing that outright teleports to him when no one is looking at it.
  • Bio-engineered — Helmut underwent multiple experiments that numbed his nerves so he wouldn't be able to feel pain. But this also resulted in him not being able to feel temperature. He can still recognize touch however. These experiments also made it so he could run at a top speed of 50 mph and never feel exhaustion. Though his body would still suffer from this, he will continue to act as if nothing was wrong (unless his movement is restricted by an affliction like paralysis) until the point it simply breaks down, and while the rest of his body can move other muscles just as fast as it would take for one to run 50 mph, his body isn't durable enough to actually work with that kind of speed for long periods of time without risking injury. His body also works on repairing itself at an accelerated rate, speeding up his natural recovery ten times, and also his metabolism by half as much so he gets hungry much faster than a normal human, but also much more efficient, his body producing fifty percent less waste.
  • Koschei — Helmut's whole left arm is an advanced prosthetic made specifically for him. It performs better than a normal arm and significantly more durable. It was made to allow Helmut the sense of touch, but the process that turned him into a supersoldier completely killed his ability to physically feel. However, with a wireless neural link already implanted in him to calibrate the prosthetic, it was modified to allow Hemut to operate the arm when it was detached. Further modifications allowed the prosthetic to transform into a 4-legged mechanical scorpion armed with anesthetic darts that it shoots from its tail. Mental Assimilation can't be triggered with this arm.

Biography:
Helmut has a muddy past, but in short, he lived in Germany before the war. When the second world war erupted, he was drafted as a Hitler youth. He performed well and was chosen to be a guinea pig on some experiments he was not in a position to decline. He wasn't the only one, and he and those who survived were made into a squad. All child experiments. He didn't stand out all that much. Compared to the others, he was mostly just a simple soldier who was just tougher and couldn't feel pain. He was no better than a bullet sponge. A later experiment made it so he could move much faster.

That is until one mission where he was to steal an artifact. He found it and something happened. Something spoke to his mind. He couldn't recall what it said but when he regained (most of) his senses, he was in a room full of dead allied soldiers.

Slowly he found that he could move things with his mind, and then absorbed a soldier's knowledge after touching them with his hands ungloved. This made him great for interrogating people, even though it nearly makes him a vegetable every time he uses this power.

Sometime later, the squad agreed to escape this life as mere pawns. They had their own reasons, but Helmut's own reason was this: His new power revealed intentions of what his superiors would do to him. They wanted to know what the artifact did to him, and as soon as his usefulness was deemed replaceable, he would be put to new experiments. Ones he was sure he would never survive. And so when the time came, he left and parted ways.

It was after the war when he heard the voice talking to him in his sleep. This being wanted knowledge, it didn't say what it wanted or needed, but Helmut guessed it wanted to learn everything. If he helped this being, it would make his life much more convenient. And so for a time, he went to people who knew things he didn't and stole what they knew for this being, learning new things for himself as well.

It just so happened some people... knew more than any human should, and this lead him to the island of Manta Carlos. He was amazed at this place, and eventually found employment as a scout. But with how many people that could read minds, the being gave him another gift, one that would hurt people if they so much as try to make any mental connection with its pawn. It wanted knowledge, but it wasn't willing to share it.

=====
During the kerfuffle that lead to DCA being returned to existence, Helmut lost his left arm to one of the entities that were spawned, having taken the form of a fellow scout: Aranea. He continued life as normal for a few months. Then on the month of May, 2020, after a job in the narrow reality, he was brandishing a new prosthetic.

Resources: A large house with two stories, fully furnished with all modern luxuries, including an indoor swimming pool that could fit 12 people, a den, five rooms, two of which belong to the maid and butler, a personal library, and a balcony on the second floor. This was ill-gotten property, won through a high-stakes wager that unknown to his opponent was tilted to Helmut's favor. Has a decent amount of money in banks both in Manta Carlos and the narrow reality. Has a number of personal contacts that he uses to get information on what's happening around the world, including those of the supernatural variety.
