"Their name is Giltenn," Jude said, holding the arm up so that Ezra could get a better look at it. "I've gotten used to having them around, and they're pretty quiet most of the time? They can talk to me at any time, but generally it's more like... having someone in the room with you, but not feeling like you need to talk? They're always there, but they're not super chatty or anything."

As he spoke about Giltenn he could feel them, almost like someone was leaning over his mental shoulder to tell what was being talked about. But the feeling didn't linger for long, and Giltenn withdrew to their usual level of watching but not caring.

Well, Giltenn being gone long didn't last long. Right around the time that Ezra started undoing their wrappings, revealing the mess of markings and runes, Giltenn leaned forward again, and Jude could feel in a way that defied any sort of explanation that they were interested.

Incorrect, Giltenn thought to the entire explanation.

"Hold on," Jude muttered verbally, his eyes flicking around as if talking to someone. "Are you sure about that? About... all that."

Giltenn made a mental huff.

The markings are not to control a puppet. They are seals.

"Oh, well, salutations, Sir Giltenn. I hope I did not offend by not greeting you properly. I would not want the wrath of a powerful life form such as yourself bearing down on me with your power." Ezra gave a small bow to the gauntlet, seeming almost as if they were teasing yet being sincere towards Jude and the gauntlet before running one hand over the other. Although the markings were now covered by the bindings once more, Ezra could practically trace each marking by memory. They would often stay up late at night to follow the odd curvatures of each layer, almost admiring each one as one would a work of art. They were beautiful yet mysterious, and the more they observed each marking, the more questions they had.

Lost in their reverie, they almost didn't catch Jude's quiet mutterings. Realizing that their friend sounded unsure of their explanation, the spirit tilted their head in a similar manner to when Salem would be questioning something someone had said. "Am I sure? I am quite positive, Mister Jude. Miss Asteria explained it quite fully, and even presented me with the spellbook she had used when the procedure was done. I admit, the explanation was complex and delved into magic that I do not quite understand, but Miss Asteria is quite the expert in her field and I do think I have ever seen her make a mistake when it comes to magical theory."

Ezra gave a nod, almost feeling a sense of pride that they were able to clarify the confusion that their friend had. "So Mister Jude, if I may ask, how did you and Sir Giltenn first meet?"

Wrathful. They seemed... well, Jude was having a hard time getting a read on how genuine they were, and he felt the need to clarify.

"Well, Giltenn's pretty nice. They're not particularly wrathful, and they can't do anything in the real world. Whatever they do, they have to do through me, and we have a pretty good system." A good system of Jude feeding Giltenn information in exchange for Giltenn's help, and... well, lack of interference.

Giltenn could puppet Jude around, but they didn't. The moment they did, Rory would burn Giltenn out of Jude without a second thought, and Giltenn knew it.

Jude couldn't help but squint at the they couldn't have made a mistake. He didn't think it was a mistake. One didn't accidentally seal someone. Ezra was definitely sealed--Giltenn was feeding him plenty of information about that--but it wasn't by accident.

That was a great big hmmmm, but one Jude was content to keep under his hat for the moment. Nothing good would come of insisting otherwise.

"Back in my world, there's beings called the Gultha. They're... impossibly powerful incarnations of entire concepts, like destruction or entropy or something like that. They have physical anchors, which allow them to manifest, and I found Giltenn's in... a kind of pressing situation. Someone was about to steal them, and they picked me to host them so they could get away. It worked out fairly well."

He reached up, trailing a line along his forearm just below the elbow, a point where the decoration on his hand stopped and became simple, unmarked silver metal.

"They used to be a gauntlet, up to about there."

Ezra nodded at the explanation of Giltenn's personality and pseudo-weakness. 'Interesting. So the deity is not only bound to the gauntlet, but is also restricted to the gauntlet and cannot act independently without clashing with Mister Jude. So, arguably, it could take control and cause havoc throughout the island if so desired. That is an interesting theory.' Ezra quietly thought to themselves, watching Jude with a neutral expression as he spoke.

When Jude mentioned 'his' world, the spirit could only tilt their head in confusion. Was Jude not from this world? The gauntlet was an anchor for an extra-dimensional godlike entity, sure, but Jude is not native to this island either? The more that Ezra spoke with the teenager, the more they learned and the better they were for learning something. He also said that he did not mind discussing his history, so more questions were appropriate to ask. They waited patiently for Jude to finish his explanation of how the two had bonded before diving into the questioning.

"So you saved Giltenn from being abducted by what I would assume to be nefarious forces, and became bound to them since they need a physical anchor in order to interact the world. Something happened which led to you nearly dying, and Giltenn used their power to bond further and keep you from becoming deceased but resulted in the additional metal in your arm and jaw. Did I guess correctly? Or was it saving Giltenn from their abductor that caused the near death experience?"

They looked at Jude expectantly, green eyes seeming to glow brighter the longer they would have to wait for a response.

"That's right," Jude said, actually sort of impressed that Ezra had managed to follow along. It was all kind of... well, confusing. There were a ton of factors. His world. Giltenn. His life. His father. Breakneck. And like a dozen other people and things that all had to snap together. It was hard to explain one without explaining the other.

"It wasn't helping them that made me nearly die. That was... other stuff. I'd already had Giltenn for a while like that. They used to do this thing where they'd hide themselves from sight, so it looked like it was just my arm, and only I could feel it. Afterwards they were stretched too thin, so they couldn't manage that."

He reached up with his flesh-and-bone hand, dragging a thumb across some of the metal in his jaw.

"It goes down farther, too. This is just what's visible. I figure it would be scar tissue if it wasn't metal."

He paused to consider, glancing over Ezra once more.

"You followed along pretty well. I knew it wasn't exactly the... clearest explanation."

"According to Miss Asteria, I am quite good at comprehension of most explanations." Ezra gave a few nods, almost seeming to boast at the accomplishment. "It is a process of simple deduction, so I do not see why it is such an impressive feat, but I suppose I am still unaware of the average standard of logic reasoning. I am also sorry that you had to suffer such hardship, whatever it may be. I cannot imagine what troubles you may had faced in the past, but I do hope that you are enjoying yourself on the island."

Ezra would then attempt to smile, but there would be something slightly off. Asteria had described their smile as falling into the 'Uncanny Valley' territory and recommended being careful about smiling in front of others. Jude seemed to be a nice enough person to try smiling at, and the spirit hoped that it wasn't too unpleasant to look at for the teen. Maybe he could give tips on smiling more. That would be a good bonding exercise with two friends, right?

"The more you talk about Giltenn, the more they intrigue me. I suppose I should not be surprised that a deity-level entity lives on the island, as this place appears to be a haven for all sorts of supernatural creatures. I find everyone fascinating, as I have never seen so many unique individuals in one place before. I would inquire more about people if I could, but I have been told that it could be too invasive and it would be impolite. Miss Asteria did instruct me on societal manners but I worry that I am perceived as 'straight-forward' and 'pushy'."

The spirit sagged their shoulders, running a hand through their hair. Although they had experienced very little in the way of sorrow, they had felt stress. The time Asteria had spent with them in their homeland before arriving on the island had been a lot of work for her, and she would get frustrated at times with Ezra's lack of comprehension with certain topics. So replicating the feeling of stress wasn't difficult for the spirit.

There was definitely something a little bit off about the way Ezra smiled. Like they were trying slightly too hard, or trying slightly no hard enough. There was no way for Jude to tell, but he did his best to try and not be bothered by the slightly deranged looking smile being pointed in his direction. It sort of reminded him of how Blade might smile, or Finch - something that wasn't at all used to smiling but was trying to make an effort anyway to be friendly.

"You're definitely straight forward," Jude admitted. "But not really pushy so far. People on the island tend to have a good tolerance for being up front about things. In the narrow reality, people would think it was rude if you... I don't know, asked someone what species they were or what powers they had. But here those are normal topics of conversation. There's so many people from so many backgrounds that it doesn't feel like you can assume anything, so everyone just gets taught to ask instead."

Like him. IT had taken a bit for him to get over it and start just asking, but once he had things had felt so much better.

Ezra seemed to be relieved at Jude's answer, their body shifting into a more relaxed state. The idea that they were being inappropriate in social settings was something that had been bothering them the more they socialized. It was good to hear that most people on the island were upfront and forward about their abilities and species type without being offended, as Ezra's curiosity would not be easily sated and the urge to discover information would likely override the ability to be polite and refrain from delving into such topics. Gently adjusting themselves in the uncomfortable seat by the accommodations office door, the spirit continued to watch Jude carefully as they spoke.

"Well, then, Mister Jude." Ezra started, seeming to pause with their questioning for a moment. They shifted again in their seat, glancing around. "I know of Giltenn and their abilities somewhat but I am afraid I do not know what more to ask of you. I do wish to understand you more but I do not know where to begin. I know that friends learn about one another by inquiring about various hobbies or things enjoyed, but would that be an unacceptable breach into your privacy?"

Ezra was... well, sweet. They felt significantly younger than Jude, but he knew it wasn't really age... probably. Just inexperience. Jude was one of the better people to ask, because while he wasn't exactly great at breaking down simple concepts or things like that, he had a pretty high tolerance for explaining things that many others might have dismissed out of hand.

"No, that would be a normal enough conversation," he said. "I read a lot. Most of my time was taken up with... uh, work - but I don't really do that anymore since I got to Manta Carlos. So it's been reading and catching up so I can be ready for class. I have... maybe ninety or so years of history to catch up on, to make sure I have it all in mind."

Earlier history was mostly the same, but around the time that supernatural abilities started to show up in his world, things had begun to split.

He'd been extremely surprised to learn there was a second world war, for one thing. He'd assumed one was enough for everyone.

"What about you? Normally it's pretty standard to kind of do... ah, back and forth. Like, you ask me something, so I ask you something."

Maybe it was a bit patronizing to say it, but he figured Ezra might appreciate it.

"That seems reasonable. I also read a lot as well. There is a lot of world history to catch up on, as well as multiple books on social interaction and presentation. History is quite interesting, as humankind has done quite well for how long they have been documenting their story. However, humanity also seems to be a very destructive force that is quite keen on burning itself out between multiple wars and their unchecked scientific advancements. But they are still very interesting all the same."

Ezra paused, tilting their head as if confused slightly by what they had just said. Although the sentiments stated were by no means ones they disagreed with, it did not quite feel like the words that Ezra would use to explain that feeling. The narrow reality was complex, sure, but the spirit wasn't the most qualified to judge humanity for their achievements and flaws. They took a deep breath and stared at Jude once more.

"I do also enjoy films, as they are quite useful in portraying emotions through facial expression, body language, and tone of voice. Although they are by no means realistic in other aspects, I will say they are quite enjoyable to experience them for what they are. You also mentioned that you did not read before arriving on the island due to 'work'. I know you are working as Miss Zoraida's assistant, but what did you do prior to that?"
