"Aww, you make that sound like it's extra work Angie!" Her smirk stretched into a smile. "Come on, you know you'd be bored out of your mind by yourself. I'm basically doing you a favour!"

Well, she had his attention for the moment. That would keep her satisfied for the moment, keeping him on his toes.

"Soup sounds good! Gotta watch my calories anyway." She patted her stomach for emphasis.

It was definitely extra work. No two ways about it. But he supposed it wasn't too bad, and it wasn't too busy...

"Give me a minute and I'll put in your order," he said, ducking away to let the kitchen know. He couldn't help but feel a pang of... something as he peeked in and found an unfamiliar face.

No Broen. Of course Broen wasn't going to be there, but every glance into the kitchen was an uncomfortable reminder that he was somewhere out there, doing got knew what.

Angelo wasn't quite as perky when he returned to the table, setting a drink down in front of Evie.

"I put your order in. Been keeping busy?"

Evie took the glass and held it up, as if offering a brief toast to Angelo, before taking a slurp.

A loud slurp. The kind of loud slurp that would be considered very rude in this kind of restaurant if there were more people to hear it.

"You know me Angie, I'm always trying to stay busy." She giggled, putting the glass back down. "School hasn't gotten any less boring since I arrived, so I gotta make my fun somehow."

She tilted her head slightly after looking him over, curious, noticing the change in demeanour but not quite sure what to make of it.

"What about you? I'd ask if you've been doing anything fun but I'm guessing you've been off acting like the big ol' supernerd that you are." She shot him a lazy smile.

"You could try changing your coarse load," Angelo said, knowing his advice was probably falling on deaf ears. She didn't seem the type to go sit down with the school faculty and work on a modified curriculum. He sure as hell was.

"Preparing for the elections," Angelo replied after a moment. "Planning to talk to the helpers club about..." For a moment, he almost didn't say it, and then he decided that the worst case scenario was boring her into bothering him less. "About reaching out to people living on the islets. I feel like there are a lot of teenagers who could use a friend there, who are still adjusting and can't be released to the general public."

There were more of those than he'd care to admit, and running into one of them at the community center had sparked the idea.

“Naaah,” She dismissed Angelo’s advice with a simple wave of her hand. Evie didn’t really know much about how the Academy handled that sort of thing (or how schools handled these kinds of things in general) but she felt it unlikely that complaining that the work was dull wouldn’t really be enough to justify changing it. Once he started talking about his current plans she shot him a smirk.

“Weeeell, looking to pay a visit to jail island, are you?” She said teasingly. “Sounds like the sort of thing you’d be trying to do, Mr superhero.”

Evie considered cracking more jokes, but she paused for a moment. She was aware, dimly, that if things were different, she might have been spending her time locked up as well, rather than here. She had stolen a lot of things after all.

Not that Angelo needed to know that.

“I’m sure some poor kid’ll appreciate it.” Was all she ended up saying before she moved on.

“Elections huh? I guess this’ll be the first one I’m around to see. It kinda sounds like a popularity contest honestly.” As she spoke about it, an idea seemed to pop into her head, and that teasing smile was back on her face. “Hey hey hey, what do you think the odds are of me getting elected for something?”

If Angelo was in any way suspicious about Evie potentially spending time on the island, he didn't show it at all, letting the topic breeze right on past him. The elections seemed like safer ground, something easier to talk about without risking bringing up something uncomfortable.

Even for Angelo, there was a lot of uncomfortable ground when it came to something like the prison system.

Like the fact that he'd always feared it as a child, for one.

"Decent," Angelo said. "There's almost always some competition for the top slots, but generally the lower ranking positions are pretty easy to get into. Everyone wants to be in charge more than actually being on the council itself. As long as you present yourself as a generally stable individual with at least two brain cells you can rub together, your chances are pretty good."

"Wow. You actually managed to make high school politics sound even lamer than I already thought it did. You got a real talent there Angie, putting that squareness of yours to use."

She was almost tempted to actually show up to the elections just for shits and giggles, maybe put on a show for the audience. But if there was a chance of her actually winning then she'd rather sit it out. Student Council sounded like responsibility and work and she wanted nothing to do with that.

"Why bother running anyway? Sounds like you don't care much about it. Just want a little notch in your utility belt or something?"

If it had been from someone else, Angelo might have been bothered, but truth be told he'd mostly accepted his place. He was... well, a boyscout. He did the good thing. He handled the boring work.

"Once you're on the council, you can make changes," Angelo said. "And for the record, I do actually want to be on council. I'm just realistic about how much interest in politics the average student has, which is very little. I have a good campaign I want to run, and I think it's a worthwhile cause."

Angelo glanced over his shoulder, and then gave a quick nod.

"Back in a moment."

He'd be good to his word, arriving with Evie's food after a short pitstop at one of his other tables.

Evie looked like she had another smart ass response ready, but since duty called, she simply gave him a tiny wave as he moved over to one of the other tables. Maybe now would be a good time to bust out her Christmas present...

Smirking to herself, Evie dug around in her pockets, quickly procuring what looked like a small speaker and a remote. She waited until Angelo was focusing on the table, before she shifted the speaker's gravity towards herself and tossed it through the tables, keeping it low. She waited until it was close enough to Angelo’s back, then hit the button.

And a loud fart noise immediately erupted from the speaker.

It then fell back towards Evie as if she’d thrown it in the air, she caught it and stuffed it back in her pocket. Whether Angelo saw it or not, she just started whistling, eyes looking up at the ceiling innocently.

The speaker might have been subtle, but the prank certainly wasn't. Angelo went pink the moment he heard it, immediately spinning around. He hadn't done it. And no one else could have naturally ripped a far that loud.

So there was a very short list of culprits.

Realistically, the list had one name, and Angelo marched right on over, his face still red as he stopped in front of Evie's table.

"Why?" He said, a note of incredulity in his voice. "We were having a good conversation, and things were going well, and now you're trying to... to what, embarrass me on the job?"
