Evie found, as she often did these days, that she was bored. Her usual shenanigans around the campus were starting to get old, so today she found herself exploring around the city. She'd been on the island for a few months now, and while she was certainly getting used to the supernatural occurrences all around her, there were still many parts of the city that she wasn't familiar with.

Which was why, when she strolled into the richer part of town, she was surprised to find a name that sounded vaguely familiar. La Bussola. Didn't Angelo tell her that his dad had opened up this place? It looked a lot fancier than she expected on the outside. Not the kind of place she'd normally visit.

Then again, it was pretty late in the afternoon, and she was starting to feel hungry. And if Angelo was working today...

A little mischevious smirk spread on her face as she walked in through the door.

She looked very out of place in the classy restaurant, wearing a distinctive shirt and sweatpants, hands in her pockets as she peered around the interior.

Angelo was, in fact, working that day. Angelo worked almost every day, because it was his dad's place and he had a vested interest in making things work. Customer service wasn't exactly something he had a leg up at, but his perfect memory and tendency to idiot proof things by reciting orders back to people for confirmation helped a great deal. He never forgot that you were a vegetarian, or that you wanted a particularly strange substitution.

That said, he was primarily serving adults, which was something he favored. He mostly served people who he didn't know, and when someone he knew did wander in--Finch had at least once, for example--they were professional about it and didn't bother him at work.

Teenagers, on the other hand...

So the moment Angelo saw Evie, he internally winced, put on his very best customer service face, and slid right on over, trying to be as professional as possible.

"Welcome to La Bussola," Angelo said, "how big is your party?"

Nope, he wasn't acknowledging who it was at all.

Evie's face seemed to light up as soon as she spotted Angelo, that devious grin spreading from her lips.

Messing around with Angelo was always fun. He was straight edged enough to where getting a real rise out of him felt like a challenge, but he also seemed like enough of a boy scout for Evie to feel reasonably confident that he wouldn't kick her ass over her shenanigans.

So, naturally, she wasn't about to pass up a chance to mess with him at work.

"Hey Angiiiiiiie!" Evie greeted him, stretching out his name like she always seemed to do. "You know me. I'm a party of one."

She casually crossed her arms behind her back, rocking on her heels, giving him a knowing look. No way was she planning on letting him get away with acting all oblivious.

"This is a real nice restaurant you got here Angie. Real fancy looking. I can't believe you never told me where it was! It's like you were trying to hide it from me or something. Is it because you didn't want me to see you in a uniform?"

She leaned for a little bit before adding,

"Because I do love a man in uniform, you know." She winked, teasingly, before breaking into a small giggle.

Angelo had very different opinions of uniforms. Really, a part of him still considered his hero costume to be his uniform, because he'd worn that for work for much longer than he'd worked at La Bussola.

But he did, if he was being honest, like what he wore there. He felt neat and professional, and hearing Evie say something that was the verbal equivalent of an eyebrow wiggle resulted in him making a face.

God, so much for clean and professional.

"It's out of the budge of most of the students," Angelo said simply, "and most people assume Italian food is all pasta and pizza."

Which was so wrong, and he tried not to make another face, gesturing behind him as he grabbed a window.

"Just follow me. I'll give you a booth, unless you want a window seat."

"Does that mean you don't have pizza here?" Evie gave an expression of mock horror. "What kinda rinky-dink operation are you running!?"

After getting over her apparent disappointment, she giggled at the little face Angelo was making before following after him, hands resting on the back of her head as she glanced around the restaurant. Inside the restaurant looked just as expensive as the outside, definitely outside her normal budget. Evie still didn't have a job, so she more or less lived off the allowance she got from the academy.

She was planning on spending her most recent check on more magic weed, but at the moment, blowing it all here seemed more fun.

"So what do you sell here anyway, Angie?" Evie asked, sliding into the booth seat that he directed her to. "Some fancy red wine with steaks covered in gold shavings or something?"

"We have pizza," Angelo corrected, "It's just different from what you're used to. Before America was even discovered, Liguria had pizza of it's own - sardenara. Salted anchovies, olive oil, garlic, and olive. Capers if you like them."

It was, if Angelo was being honest himself, basically fancy focaccia. But tomatos weren't native to Italy, so it wasn't like they were part of standard cuisine.

The restaurant was nice, but also fairly empty. It was an off hour, and things were fairly slow anyway. The snow had put a damper on things, and they were really only just starting to pick up.

"We cover most Northern Italian dishes, but we put a focus on Liguria--where Genoa is located. So focaccia, lots of herbs, seafood, and vegetables. Savory pies, chickpeas, a variety of pastas..."

He considered for a moment.

"We're not so much steak. Liguria is pretty narrow and doesn't have room for cattle. Have you had focaccia before? It's on the house. Kind of a snack."

A lot of the geography lesson, admittedly, went right over Evie's head. She seemed to only be half paying attention to Jude's explanation as she searched around for a menu, peering at the prices for the things he was describing. Even if she had no idea what the heck things like a Sardenara were, she at least got the basic gist of it.

"Noooope. I have no idea what that is. But hey, if it's free I'll take it while I decide on the rest."

She was a tiny bit disappointed by the lack of people, making a scene was much less fun if no one was around to see it, but that also meant there were different ways to mess around. Evie rested both her elbows on the table, interlacing her fingers and using them to prop up her chin. She looked up at Jude, batting her eyes and smirking.

"How much will it cost to order a tall blonde leo to enjoy the food with me, Aaaaangiiiiie?" She asked, wiggling her eyebrows up and down suggestively.

The lack of people was an absolute mercy, and Angelo immedaitely vanished when she turned away to find a menu, vanishing to retrieve some focaccia before setting it down on the table. It was almost like a very fancy pizza crust, only served in strips with olive oil and a balsamic vinegar on the side.

He then, very carefully, slid a menu over to her, giving a pointed look.

"No amount of money, I'm afraid. I'm the only waiter during this period, and I have to handle all the existing tables." That and the fact that he knew she was up to something. He didn't know what, but... something.

Nope.

"The food's all excellent, by the way."

"Not excellent enough for you, apparently." She crossed her arms, pouting at him. "Come ooooooon Angie. You can't be that busy managing all these tables full of no one."

Evie scooted up to the corner of the booth, resting her back against it and propping her legs up on the seat, making herself nice and snug and comfortable. She broke a small chuck of focaccia from the strip, tossed it into the air and caught it in her mouth.

"Hmm," She considered the bread, chewing for a moment. "Not bad! Anyway, tell ya what. I'll get one of those fancy not-pizza's and a something with fish in it, and in the meanwhile, we can split this bread until more people start showing up."

She met that Look he was giving her with a smirk.

"Plus, you can keep me from messing around in your restaurant if you're watching me closely. Its a win-win for both of us."

"Actually," Angelo said pointedly, "I eat here all the time. Maybe half my meals are from here." It had kind of taken the fire out of his interest in cooking for himself if he was being honest. Why bother, when he could have professional-level Italian food all the time?

She wasn't going to take no for an answer, was she? Angelo paused for a long moment, letting himself process before letting out a sigh.

"I'm not going to sit down with you," he said, "but I'll stop by and chat when I'm not handling my other tables." He absolutely did not put it past her to mess around with things if he left her on her own. No way in hell. If he was going to have to keep an eye on her anyway, he might as well get some conversation out of it.

"So, sardenara and something fishy. Anything in particular? Soup? Actual fish?"
