In Blackthorn headquarters

Brün was sitting on the couch in the break room, eating an apple and staring at the controller in front of her on the table. On the television screen there was a very, very colourful menu screen, asking her to choose which person Brünhild wanted to race with. She wasn't exactly sure how she had gotten into this situation. Brün had just returned from a job, guarding another person in a high position, and on her way from the gym she had seen one of her co-workers playing this video game called Mario kart. Brün had held slight interest in videogames since they were invented but had never gotten around to playing them properly. But as she had taken a position behind her co-worker, watching them play for a minute, they had been called to work and Brün was left alone with the game.
And here she was, considering taking up the controller.
Brün finished her apple and threw it in the bio trashcan at the other side of the room with great accuracy. Then she turned to stare at the controller again, her arms crossed. But the staring competition didn't last long and Brün picked the controller up. She had memorized the things her co-worker had done with the controller, and she thought she did a decent job at picking her...driver? Character? And her automobile. Brün blinked once when the game wanted her to choose a course. She picked the one that seemed most simple, she was a beginner after all.
The race started, and Brün found herself struggling greatly with the controllers. To an outsider she would've probably looked quite amusing, an adult woman in workout gear playing videogames very badly, with a slight frown on her face.

Geo had been keeping herself busy for the most part, though for a few different reasons. The first was that she now had a new job and the second one was that it was at the same place that her daughter, that in itself is a complicated situation, also works at. It was creating a little bit of friction as Geo was still not sure how to handle the situation, which then also meant that she had to keep busy to not devote an over abundance of processing power to over analyzing the situation and causing even more problems. So she started to do little things all over the place like cleaning messes she had spotted, organize files and papers, replacing burnt out light bulbs, and the like.

She was currently in between tasks and was stalking down a hallway looking for something to do when some sound from an opened room caught her attention. Curious Geo went into the room and what the android saw perplexed her. One of her coworkers, Brunhild if she was not mistaken, was sitting in front of a television with a colourful piece of plastic, there was also a box of some sort that seemed to be hooked up to the television as well. She stood there silently watching for a few moments as the other went through various small cartoonish characters and various types of automobiles. Unable to keep her curiosity in check any more Geo finally spoke.

“What is this that you are so focused on?” She tilted her head to the side as she spoke, eyes focusing in further on the images on the screen as she pointed to it.

Brünhild normally wore her headphones within the headquarters, as the place could get quite busy during the day and Brünhild developed a headache because of that. Even now she was still wearing her headphones after workout, and thus she did not notice another person enter the room as she was concentrating on navigating this particular course.
Only when she spoke did Brün jolt a bit and turn to look at the source of the voice. Her co-worker Geo, no known surname. As far as Brün knew the woman was competent at her work, and almost as new as Brünhild.
Had they actually talked before?
Brünhild turned a bit towards Geo, feeling slightly flustered for being caught playing videogames. Though it didn't show on her face, which had her usual stoic but soft expression.
"As far as I'm aware this is a video game called Mario kart. The idea is quite simple, you must race and win."
Brün wasn't sure how much Geo knew about video games, or if she even knew what video games were. But if she was curious enough to ask Brünhild didn't want to deny her the freedom to find out. So she moved enough on the couch to have comfortably space for both of them.
"If you wish you can observe, or participate. This is a common space, after all."

The last thing the android wanted to do was spook someone, she hadn't even bothered to try and hide her presence but had missed the headphones. She often missed smaller details like this that lead to various social problems. She made not of it for the future. Geo also noticed that her co worker had made room for her on the couch and clued in that it was an offer for her to join and so she took the offered seat, watching the screen intently as the other played the game. She watched unblinkingly as the other completed the course and then nodded to herself.

“I see, so it is a racing simulator, a very basic one though.” She leaned in closer inspecting the screen, watching as the victor of the race celebrated on the screen. “I have only tried virtual combat simulations in the past.”

Geo straightened up a bit and looked over at her co worker, tilting her head to the side. This, to her, was the perfect time to attempt to socialize with someone else. Who would be better then someone in the same line of work that seemed to have a similar disposition, it would be taking what others referred to 'baby steps' but practice none the less.

“May I join you in a match?”

Brünhild was in all honesty confused as to how Geo could watch her still rather clumsy playing so intently. Although Brünhild was slowly getting the hang of the game mechanics.
Brünhild found it slightly amusing how seriously Geo was taking the video game, and though she did not smile her expression softenef a bit. Brünhild knew that video games were meant for simply passing time and thus did not think so seriously of it. But it seemed that Geo wasn't aware of the purpose of video games, based on her reaction.
"I suppose you could call it that. Although to my knowledge video games such as this are purely meant for entertainment."
Brünhild turned to face the screen in order to start a new race, as she still had free time. But she could feel Geo observing her, though she thought nothing of it. But Brünhild was slightly surprised when Geo asked, if she could join her. Brünhild looked at Geo and nodded.
"Be my guest. I believe there is another controller somewhere..."
Brünhild looked around and did spot a controller on a shelf unde the tv, already connected to the game console. Brünhild handed it to Geo and sat back down.
"I'm very new to this, which you must've already noticed. So I might not be much of an opponent."

Geo took the controller from her co worker and nodded, going over all the buttons on it. She was not sure what all of them did but would figure it out in time. She listened to Brun and nodded.

“I have not done anything like this myself,” she said making a cursor move around to pick different cartoons that would apparently drive her vehicle. “It is, as people on this planet say, anyone's game at the moment?”

After picking a racer, someone in a pink dress with blonde hair and a crown of some sort, Geo went on to pick the car that she would be using and other such things. She waited while Brunhild did the same, some strange giant turtle dragon with spikes on it, and the two of them were placed onto a track and some thing in a cloud lowered a traffic light. It counted down and then the moment the light went green the race started. Geo hit a button and the car started to go backwards, causing her to frown before trying another one. The vehicle went forward this time causing the frown to relax as she started to concentrate. She watched the race intently, trying each button to figure out what did what.

The first lap was completed and she was not doing so well, but as the screen was indicating there were at least two more to go. In the second lap she did much better, climbing up from last place and getting right behind the leader, she was learning the map as she went though, looking for any place that could be considered a short cut or would give her any edge in the final lap.

By the time the final lap started Geo was more confident and was totally concentrating on the game now. As she did this her tongue poked out of the front of her mouth a bit though she was not conscious of doing so, it was perhaps an ingrained habit of some of the feline species DNA used in her creation. Whatever the cause anyone who knew the serious mercenary android would probably think that it was the most adorable thing that Geo had ever done, or probably will ever do. The final lap was now completed and Geo had secured Victory. Leaning back onto the couch, she did not even know when she had started to lean forward during the same, she looked over at her co worker and nodded.

“That was enjoyable.” She said matter of factly. “Do you wish to play again?”

Brünhild's lips twitched a bit at the very appropriate and clever choice of words Geo used to describe their situation and she nodded.
"True enough, especially since this game and console are in common use."
Brün didn't joke much and when she did it usually crashed and burned. But at least she tried.
Brün proceeded to choose a driver and a vehicle as well, and couldn't help but be slightly surprised at Geo's choice of character. Brünhild had expected the woman would choose someone who looked like they had better combat capabilities. But she didn't wonder it too long and chose a character for herself, a strange lumpy-looking dragon with a spiky shell. It seemed like the tank-type and as Brünhild had tried a humanoid character already she wished to widen the scope.

As the race started Geo obviously struggled, and Brün felt bad for her since she had not had time to get used to the game mechanics like Brün had. She glanced at Geo, considering giving some tips. But the woman seemed to be concentrating and Brünhild decided to let her try to figure the game out herself at first. Who knew, maybe Geo was prideful and Brün's instructions would only anger her. So Brünhild concentrated on her own racing, still careful but steady. She just wanted to learn for now, winning could come later.

As the race progressed Brünhild was impressed by the speed in which Geo learned. Brün kept her steady 4th or 3rd place but by the end of 2nd round Geo was leading. Brünhild turned her head a bit to comment on Geo's success and noticed that she had a little bit of her tongue stuck out, most probably because of concentration. That made Brünhild crack a small smile, as that was quite cute in her mind since she had seen felines make the same face. The race ended while Brünhild observed Geo's expression and as the woman leaned back Brün wiped the small smile from her face and cleared her throat a bit.
"Yes, that was indeed enjoyable. I would not mind a second round."
Brünhild proceeded to start another race, picking a course bit more hard this time.
"I must say your learning curve is impressive."

Geo nodded at the last comment, she sometimes forgot who knew what she was and who didn't.

“My reflexes are above average, and I can be a quick learner at times.” she stated while she picked a new character, this time it was a woman in a glowing gown with stars around her who was clearly from space but also had a crown of some sort. Geo had no idea what attracted her to these characters but pick them she did none the less, almost out of instinct.

Once again after character and vehicle selection was done they once again lined up at the starting line, this time in some sort of desert based race track. Just like the other race the cloud creature came down and the count down started, this time Geo was ready and hit the button to go forward. Unsure how though apparently she hit it at the right time as the car she was in shot out sparks and she flew forward ahead of the pack. As this happened she could not help but let out a little gasp before leaning forward as she had before to concentrate.

Even with this boost for the first lap she stayed around 2nd or 3rd but started to memorize the map and pick out all the little short cuts again. At the start of the next lap she was so focused that her tongue once again started to slightly poke out from between her lips as she pulled into 1st place. This time when the final lap hit the android was so far ahead of everyone that none of them could be seen behind her in her part of the screen. When she crossed the finish line she smiled ever so slightly and sat back, this time having to wait and watch while the next five or six racers crossed before the game automatically finished the race for them.

Brünhild was very well aware of her co-workers' abilities, strengths and weaknesses. But that didn't mean they were not worthy of praise, and Brünhild truly thought it was impressive that Geo could absorb knowledge as fast as she did.
"I'm aware. It is no wonder you learn game mechanics such as these so fast."
Brünhild nodded a bit and also proceeded to pick her character. This time she chose a creature that looked like the image of ghosts in popular culture, except it had a red robe on. Brünhild wasn't looking for anything special in the characters anymore, since it seemed that the character did not bring any special perks with it. It was simplynfor aesthetics. So Brün went with her gut and chose whatever felt right at the moment.
Although she still did not understand why Geo seemed to pick the characters that...had crowns? Were attractive females? Who knew why Geo decided on that type of character.

Brünhild had not known a trick such as what Geo did was possible and as she gasped Brünhild blinked and looked at the screen with fascination. Somewhee at the back of her mind Brünhild also made the notion that Geo's reaction was amusing, in a lovable way.
Brünhild, however, had not forgotten about her own race and was right behind Geo. Brünhild was not what you would call competitive, as such things were not usually efficient. But she was also still part human and she found herself immersed in the game, trying to actively beat Geo. She was usually 2nd or 3rd and even took the 1st place couple of times. But ultimately Geo won, with her tongue peeking from between her lips. Once again Brün felt a small smile tug at the corners of her mouth.

Brün was slightly frustrated at her loss, and she had the slightest frown as she finished 2nd, quite long ways after Geo. Brün could see the small smile on the woman's face and felt small twinge of annoyance, although it did not show in her expression.
"As I predicted, I'm not much of an opponent. Care for another race?"

Geo did not bother to say anything to the request of another race but just nodded quickly and went back into character selection. This time the woman she picked had brown hair, a yellow dress, and you guessed it another crown! Some people would say that somewhere along the line Geo had somehow come into contact with the idea and literature regarding princesses and was subconsciously picking them because she really liked them or wanted to be one. Those people would have gotten hurt even if it may have unknowingly been true.

This time it the race was on some sort of jungle track that had some large creatures on it, something the humans had called dinosaurs. She got ready, leaned forward, tongue poked out, and waited for the cloud creature, and started the race. Once again on the first lap she managed to keep around second, though this time on the second lap the android made a critical error, potentially two.

The first one was that when she tried a short cut one of the computer players followed her as well and when she was in the air they knocked her off course causing her to miss the other side of the ramp. She had to be rescued by another cloud thing but this one had taken coins from her as well. This caused Geo to frown and inch closer to the edge of the couch.

Next when on another part of the map she took a jump that she should have cleared but the moment before she was about to land the large dinosaur there moved it's head and once again knocked her off course. When this happened Geo actually let out an irritated little squeak followed by a soft growl.

She would have to fight her way back to the front but this time it looked like she would be lucky to get fourth, possibly third, for this race.
