Elizabeth covered her own mouth. She didn't even think that she might have been noisy, but, well, guards were supposed to be good at this hide and seek, and she wasn't. She didn't know what Alex did. It seemed as if he did something, it seemed that he was the reason the guards hurried to the opposite direction, but everything happened to quick for Elizabeth to even get to ask.

She bolted to a sprint together with Alex. She wasn't the fastest runner, but she did her best despite the lack of experience. She would be panting hard, exhausted, when they stop far enough where the guards would have a harder time tracking them.

There was one problem, though. Elizabeth forgot her watering can.

She stifled a cry remembering about it. She dropped it when she was throwing raw mana at Alex, and because the guards came so Suddenly she wasn't able to get it anymore. "My watering can!" she said though expressed no desire to go back to get it. "W-Well... We should stay away from the guards. Do you live in the dormitory? Maybe we should slip back into our rooms before they catch us."

"Seriously?" His voice came out monotone and incredulous. How was it the watering was what she was worried about? Albeit, she didn't seem too eager to go back for it, but apparently, it was important enough for her to be reminded of it now. Maybe it had some special power to it, or it was related to her family history, but then she should have kept a better handle on it if it was of such importance.

Saying all of that would have been rude, however. Alex just sighed and ran a hand through his hair while he tried to think. "I don't have a dorm here. I was just wandering around. Can that can be tracked back to you? I can try going back for it. I think the guards are gone from there now. I don't want us to get in trouble because that was left behind."

Why was he trying to be so nice right now? Was it because he sent Elizabeth panicking over what was supposed to be a small joke, and that's why they were in this situation? Alex had to admit that he wasn't as much of a troublemaker and bad boy as he liked to think of himself as. This was just another instance of him betraying his persona. Plus, he had to empathize with Elizabeth somewhat. If he lost something, whether big or small, he'd still want it back.

Elizabeth really didn't plan to go back for the can but... it was true that they might be tracked down because of it, and surely they both didn't want to leave behind a trail.

"It's not that valuable, but... yes, they might track us down with it. We don't even know what these guards are capable of." She meant their powers, of course. It was completely possible that someone might know an object's owner just by inspecting it. She wasn't certain, but the possibility was there.

But if the guards have already found it, they might be too late. And it really wouldn't make sense for them to get it back anymore if that was the case.

"I should go with you," she said. They were both outside the school violating the curfew, and they were both at fault for attracting the guards' attention. So, "getting found out by them when you're alone would be... terrible. So let's stick together, is that all right? But if they already have it with them, the guards I mean, well... I don't know if we should still try taking it back if that's the case..."

Alex had to keep reminding himself about the infinite powers here. One of the guards probably had the ability to read minds and could hear what they were planning right now, but he tried not to let that get to him. If this were truly hopeless, they would have been caught already. "Alright then. If they already have it, well, I think taking it back would get us into more trouble. Anyway, follow my lead."

He went back to crouching in the shadows and near large bushes. Hiding was something he was good at, considering it was necessary for most of his pranks and staying safe while roaming the night unprotected. Retracing his steps and trying to remember where he made the guards go, he ended up back where they first started. "Tell me where the can is and what it looks like, and I'll grab it, alright?"

Elizabeth quietly nodded and followed Alex. They hid behind bushes once again, and kept sneaking around until they've reached the original place they've come from. Fortunately, Alex seemed to be very knowledgeable about being stealthy, because the blond girl really didn't. Once they were there, she tried to stretch her head out as quietly as possible, trying to recall where she had dropped the watering can.

"Over there near the bench," she pointed. She would've said that it was beside the flowery patch of soil, but the plants had literally turned black and wilted because of her. It was also too heartbreaking to simply put that the watering can was in the middle of the dead patch of land.

"It's big, yellow, and made of hard plastic-- I think that's what people call the material anyway," she said. Unfortunately, the container in question was no longer there; of course the guards would have already taken it, considering it laid in the middle of a suspicious patch of dead land.

The sight of the wilted plants sent a grimace on Alex's face. The reminder that he could have ended up like those plants made his stomach feel like a void. The only thing that reassured him was mentally repeating to himself, At least they took the hit and not me. But Alex had to focus. He was on a time limit, and thinking about what could have happened wouldn't do him any good.

Alex thought the description Elizabeth gave him wouldn't be all that necessary. A colorful can against dead scenery couldn't be hard to spot, but when Alex scanned the area, there was nothing there. He muttered a few curse words under his breath as he tried to convince himself that he wasn't looking hard enough. "It's gone," he whispered. "Should we leave? No, what am I thinking? We need to find it if they haven't gotten far. Or we could make up some lie for why the can was there if they ever come to us. Or, well, come to you."
