The android took a moment to process what Sela was saying. For an android of her capacity, that only took a second or so. "Yes, I understand what you mean. That is odd, I suppose. Have you asked why the people wanted to leave? Aside from family matters and their real lives, maybe there is something deeper they don't realize is driving them away?" She was shooting into the dark of course since she was in the same boat as Sela when it came to understanding people. "Maybe some experiments would help?"

Sela opened their mouth to speak, then thought better than to answer this question immediately without thought. It would be too easy for them to say, "They felt trapped," or, "They accused me of kidnapping," and immediately lose all goodwill of this kind android.

"I think they fear the new. People often fear the new. My history classes have taught me that on Earth, humans have a lot of trouble adapting to change." This was better than lying, they thought. Sela didn't mind lying, but they preferred to not do it, especially to people they were enjoying the company of.

"Experimenting is a good idea. I have to be careful. I have to wait until the school approves me letting people into my world. I don't want to do anything that will get me in trouble." If they could sigh, they would. "Does having a parent to take care of you and not the school people give you more freedom?"

Belladonna pondered for a moment. Were humans that bad at adapting to something new? There was a bit of a contradiction, she felt, considering the human race, over the course of their existence, went through loads of changes. Starting off as nomads who then settled. Went through wars and a lot of shifts to their society. However, Sela's changes are more instantaneous, and human history had adjustments made for the long term. "I think it is more or less the same. My mother has rules, just like school does. And there are some things I'm not allowed to do. But I think it may afford a wider range of freedom considering her rules are tailored to me, or in the case of bigger families, tailored for the whole unit. With school, it has to encompass all the students and faculty, along with mandatory safety regulations, security, social, and the like."

Sela nodded along. In the back of their mind, they praised themself for getting better at human gestures. "I think I envy you... but I've heard about the phrase 'The grass is greener on the other side,' so I will not envy too much." Which was easier said than done. The school said they were trying to adjust to Sela's needs. That was hard to believe when they were forcing Sela to adjust to society's wants.

"I should rent these books and return to my dorm. Would you like me to help you carry your books? I can't hold very heavy stuff, but I have multiple arms and I don't think they'll think I'm stealing if I put the books inside of me."

The android shook her head. "No, it is fine. But thank you for the offer." She wasn't against accepting help from others, but Belladonna was capable enough in carrying the books she had picked out, and didn't want to burden a new acquaintance when they had cargo of their own. "I have a class in an hour so I will be staying here for a little longer."

Sela made a wide smile at Belladonna. "Meeting you was nice. I'm happy to know someone else similar to me. I hope we see each other more often."

Then, they turned away from Belladonna, floated towards the front of the library,... and paused. They turned around to give Belladonna a wave. It wouldn't look good if they forgot the basics of their teachings.
