The android blinked and shook her head. "Not to my knowledge. However, I think my mother wants to forget that I am an android. Or she would rather people not know that I was an android. I sometimes accidentally connect to a network with my older sisters, that is, older models for a much more varied purpose, and I find fragments of mother's voice saying things like they are more human, how they could very well blend into society flawlessly. However when I asked her, she said she didn't mind people knowing as much as she did before since it was no longer important." She thought for a moment again. "I don't know if it was genuine or she didn't want to pressure me though."

So being a robot, or an android, wasn't a bad thing, just something that some preferred to be hidden. That sounded like it was a bad thing, but nuance was never something Sela excelled at. It was something they probably never would excel at.

Sela's neutral expression broke into a frown. "People are difficult. I understand why it would be hard to tell her intentions. "

One thing Belladonna said attracted Sela's attention much more than everything else. "When you connect to your sisters... how does it feel? Sometimes I connect to people and it can feel overwhelming. Confusing. I don't have a purpose so I think it's different from yours." They also weren't an android. That was a pretty big difference.

"It is just like talking without using our voices. Like they were all nearby but they were actually far away. It isn't like talking over the phone or over the Internet." It was hard to come up with an explanation that didn't touch upon mechanical and digital aspects of their communications. Though she could explain it that way, she knew that that kind of deep concept was for those who had a special interest in it already, which she didn't think Sela had. Belladonna hadn't seen a single hint at it at least. "It wasn't overwhelming for me. In fact, it was something I could have done any time. It is like opening a soundproof door that I have seen so many times for the first time. At first my sisters were alerted at my presence. They didn't know who I was and I could detect from the sudden surge of packets of queries streaming in that they were scanning through my memory banks for something to-- My apologies, I should not be using terms I am unsure you would know. I have started using more technical terms without realizing it."

Sela paid great attention to Belladonna's explanation, but when she stopped, the tips of their mouth turned down. "It's okay. I know a lot of terms. I know a lot of things. I say stuff other people don't understand either. People look at me weird when I say my mind feels like it's filled with sand or that the sound of the wind looks like static."

They began raking their hair with their claws. Each time their hair separated, it would reunite immediately. "I experience something similar. When I sleep or daydream, I can communicate with people inside of me. It feels more real than the awake world. Everything is clearer. Brighter. Here, I only barely exist."

It was a relief to know that Sela could understand her more technical jargon. It would make future conversations flow better now that she knew that. "I don't know what sand would feel like in my head, however I do sometimes see the air as static, usually when there's a strong magnetic field nearby. And its normal for my sensors to mix the signals, so I can see sounds too. And hear colors." She smiled at this. She'd nod to Sela when she spoke about their dreams. "If it is similar to my simulations when I go into hibernation, then I understand how things become so much clearer. But I am unsure about existence. What I experience is my reality. That is what my mother would say."

"Static is similar enough. Mixing senses is fun sometimes... and sometimes not. Very confusing. And annoying." Most people here didn't have their senses mix so heavily. There were some who could taste colors or hear emotions, but what Sela experienced was far more extreme. They weren't equipped with the necessary skillset to explain it all.

"What your mother would say makes sense. You're physical, I'm not. Physical things made in this world exist best. It's why when people dream, their recollection is often hazy and disjointed. I was made for the dream world, not here, so I'm hazy and disjointed."

"It is strangely insightful," she'd say, another smile appearing on her lips. The mixing of senses was useful for encrypted communication, however she never got to try it with anyone before. She could probably suggest it to Sela, however, she and her were likely to be incompatible with actually communicating in that way. They had different connectors, so to say. "Does everything in the physical world go hazy when you go into your dream world?" She wondered if it had the same relationship as people and their dreams. "And if you don't mind me asking, how do you enter your dream world? I can simply set myself to enter simulation mode when I go into hibernation, otherwise I simply wake up after a few hours."

Fear, or something like it, moved throughout Sela. Explaining what they were and how they worked always ended in more questions and confusion. In the end, either Sela or their conversational partner got frustrated and they shut the topic down. Often they stopped speaking after that.

"A-Ah, um... Uh..." They needed to speak slowly and clearly. As human-like as possible to make sense. "I enter my dream by sleeping. Other people enter through my body. My body is a portal to my world. I'm a sapient location." They paused to give some thought as to what to say next. "When I'm here... everything feels a little hazy. I have to focus or else it'll get worse. When I'm in my world, everything is clear. Does... that make sense?"

As Belladonna listened, she invested a lot more to her processors to process what Sela was saying. Conventional thinking found problems with understanding, however multiple threads of thought built up a sort of understanding. The android nodded, finding it facinating. "I believe I understand, given a few assumptions in what way people enter through your body. On one hand it's possible that you are talking about a person's essence entering through you, like a tangible form of what they call astral projection. On the other, you may be saying that people literally walk through you to enter your world, like a form of a walking portal or a wormhole. I can think of multiple other possibilities however explaining them is currently long-winded." Belladonna gave a moment's pause. "You are fascinating, Sela. If you don't mind, will you allow me to know more about you? I realize this will take time off of your own goals of understanding people, and may touch upon topics you may feel too personal, so I'll understand if you refuse or require compensation."

So they weren't clear. Belladonna's explanations on possible ways Sela's body worked was the proof. They were about to clarify when she asked to learn more about them. She wanted to... learn more about them? There was nothing particularly interesting about Sela. Despite the school having trouble figuring them out, they firmly believed there wasn't much to them. They were simple if people stopped trying to complicate their existence.

"O-Oh, um, I don't require compensation. Am I really that fascinating? There are more interesting people. I'm vague and confusing. I may not be able to answer your questions." Not knowing every little thing there was about themself was never a problem until they came to this island. With each passing day, they wondered about their species, if they had relatives, and if there were any powers and weaknesses they missed out on.

"Ah! The portal stuff," they said suddenly, their voice spiking in volume for a second. "People literally walk into me. I'm a sapient location." To demonstrate, they stuck a hand into their chest to pull out a pencil.
