Cricket, cricket.
Even in the dark, the view was gorgeous.
R couldn't tell what she felt more - if in fact she felt anything, other than the soft spring breeze through her light jacket, ruffling the stray strands of hair around her face.
Even in the dark, the view was gorgeous.
From here, her little piece of the flat roof that overlooked the dorms, she could see almost all of campus. The moonlight did absolutely everything to help, illuminating everything in a pale white light.
R figured she needed to stop describing the scenery in her head - it was already perfectly clear. And yes, to some degree, perfect. Yet, it was imperfect. If only Gaige was here with her, gazing up at the stars with her. Taking her hand, and -
That was quite enough. R leaned back against her arms, kicking her legs off the side of the building. It wasn't that far of a fall, really. All she'd have to do was, oh, maybe slide to that beam there, shimmy along there... It'd allow her to get a glimpse of Gaige's window. But.
As much as she wanted to do that, her arms and legs ached from climbing all the way up there, and she wanted to appreciate something, for once.
Cricket, cricket...
It was so peaceful up here. She hadn't seen anyone around in her time up there, so it was good. It was alright. She could let herself relax, let her guard down. She released all the tension she was keeping in her arms and slumped in her seat. It was much more comfortable this way.

The philosopher Plato once said that evil could only thrive when good men did nothing, and that those who tolerated small evils only encouraged greater atrocities through their inaction. One could infer fromy this logic that in order to maintain societal peace one would occasionally have to confront those who sought to sew chaos even when they were greater in number and power. Those who stood by their convictions in the face of adversary were often referred to as heroes when successful and martyrs in failure.

Murphy did not relish the thought of becoming a martyr as he plummeted in free fall about 70 feet above campus. Perhaps going off on that flock of harpies for harassing couples in the woods hadn't been the wisest use of his time.

Fortunately this wasn't the first time he'd found himself falling to his door and while it would suck initially, he was fairly certain it wouldn't be fatal if he clipped the clock tower with his shoulder and rolled down the sloped roof onto the dorm roof.... probably.

Despite his best attempt, the sickening crack of his shoulder dislocation forced a string of curses out of him as he tumbled haphazardly down the tower, clipping a perched gargoyle and crashing painfully into one of the AC units atop the dorms, gasping for breath.

Well, at least he wasn't dead... yet.

Thunk against a nearby AC unit. Laboured gasping.
In pain, R could tell. She'd heard that a lot back in the real world. Further proved by the string of muttered curse words hissed under his breath. She'd seen a shadow, or a glimpse of one, anyway, rolling down the roof next to her. What was that? Surely it didn't rain humans on the roof. Or, she figured, was that normal - people falling out of the sky on a whim? Was that normal on the island? Probably not. She figured she'd need to at least check up on the poor guy who fell.
Right off of those sharp little gargoyles, too. OUCH. Someone was having quite a bad-luck day.
With a lithe little hop, she righted herself, stood up in all her messy-braided glory, and took quiet steps over to the source of the noise, her face twisted not in concern but curiosity.
Even in the dim light, R could see the outline of the frankly surprising boy there. His shoulder must have been the loud crack she'd heard.
"A guy, up here. In the dead of night. Interesting."
R was half-tempted to poke him, see if he was still alive. She settled for simply asking him.
"Are you still alive, guy?" The girl asked, bending down to get a better look.

For a long while he lay there in a daze, the stars above blurring and spinning like a cosmic kalleidoscope. Presently he began to take stock; his shoulder was dislocated, that was for certain, didn't feel like any broken ribs but there'd likely be an ugly bruise across his back for a few weeks, if it weren't for the bloody gash along his right flank he'd have actually have counted himself lucky.

He became dimy aware of a figure peering over him, probably female, and couldn't have been older than a junior at the high school. She was saying something but the kick of adrenaline pumping through his body kept him from hearing anything other than his own heartbeat. It was probably a safe bet that she was asking if he was alright and he mumbled out a vague affirmative.

Rolling onto his side quickly proved to be a mistake and he sucked in a hiss of breath as he pushed himself to his knees. A better look at the woman made hime second guess her age... maybe new to the College?

"Sorry 'bout the distubance... ya alright?" He slurred.

Wow, he really did turn out to be unlucky. He'd apparently managed to gash himself on his flank - which, really, wouldn't matter much, it'd heal. And the dislocated shoulder she could pop right back in.
He seemed to lay there for a long time before finally getting the resolve to sit up, or at least start to. Oh, nevermind - he was rolling. Onto the aide that hurt. Which was either really stupid or really unlucky. Or, she supposed, it could have been because of that shoulder.
R stared at the newcomer a bit longer, raising her eyebrow and her hand on her hip. Seriously doubting this guy's weak affirmation.
"You seriously believe I'm going to believe that. Yeah, sure." Sarcasm coated her words. "Hhh. Anyways. You look kinda pathetic... Here. I'll help you up." With that, she extended a slender but strong-looking arm towards him. "With the other hand. I don't want to pull your arm off." She was joking, of course. Probably.

Murphy clicked his tongue in annoyance but accepted the hand, hauling himself up with the help of the surprising strong woman. Not super level strength like some of the island's inhabitants but rather the kind that came from frequent exercise or training.

"Sarcasm, vunderbar. Well nonetheless I appreciate the assistance. If I may crave another boonote, would you kindly help me over to the wall so I can relocate my shoulder?"

"A boonote. Fancy terminology, Mr No-Name Kid. Anyways. Give me a second and it'll be relocated faster." Hm. Did this kid even have a name? Probably. Pulling him up, she grabbed ahold of his dislocated shoulder. "It's going to hurt like hell, but at least you'll have your shoulder back I guess," she cautioned, getting ready to relocate his arm. "Count to three."
"One."
A steady pulling of his arm at a specific angle, stretching stretching...
"Two -" and then she let go, the shoulder popping back into place, probably causing a lot of pain for Murphy... but the job was done.
"Three." She shrugged.

Boonote? Gods he was more out of it than he thought.

Murphy braced himself as she began pulling his arm, vision going white as the sickening 'pop' signal led the relocation. He found himself begrudgingly impressed that she knew how to set an arm that quickly, it wasn't often that someone possessed both the knowledge and stomach to twist someone's arm back into the socket... even in a place like Manta Carlos.

"Name's Murphy by-the-by, thanks for the help. My apologies if I seem curt, pain tends to bring out the worst in everyone, yeah?"

He sat atop the ledge of the roof and glanced down over the courtyard below, watching a handful of nocturnal students scuttle about. Absent mindedly he fished a small electrum coin out of his pocket and began toying with it.

"So... I know just about everyone here but I'm afraid that I don't recognize you, you new to the Island?"

"It's the least I could do for someone who fell out of the sky. Is that normal? Like... Do people fall out of the sky at night on a daily basis?" R knew the answer already - she was joking.
"Yeah. Pain does tend to do that." Especially if you're the one receiving it and not inflicting it, she thought, then, barring that, she pushed it to a dark corner of her mind. "I may just have to kill you for your rudeness. "There was a tiny pause. R was sure he heard the sarcasm. "Murphy. Right?" Remember the name. Murphy. "I'm R. And yes, I moved to the island about two months ago, so I'm fairly new."
Hmmm. A coin of some sort. A listening device? No, it couldn't be a bug - too small to fit the wires and such. So then what was it? An ordinary coin?
"What's that coin for?" R asked, pointing to the electrumbrella coin.

He let out a harsh laugh. "Well ya never know here. On an island full of demons, self proclaimed gods, vampires and more, a man tumbling out of the sky should hardly phase ya soon enough."

R, now there was a name of one who either had something to hide or had intent of doing something worth hiding. Not that was one to judge of course. He gave her a quick glance and tried to guess whatever gift it was that got her invited to the island.

No visible mutations or features that made anything terribly obvious, he hadn't glimpsed any fangs when she talked... golden eyes though, THAT probably meant either magic or shapeshifter, neither of which he'd had particularly pleasant encounters with.

When she mentioned the coin he glanced down and frowned, letting the thing slip back into the pocket of his long coat. "Ah, nothing much. Just an old coin a friend gave to me. Can't ever seem to get rid of it." And thank god for that. he added silently.

It was a lie of course, one he'd gotten used to telling over and over again. The damn thing was probably the only reason he still lived.

From the same pocket he withdrew a crumpled pack of cigarettes and fished the least damaged one out before offering the pack to R. "So what's your story then? From what I gather most people don't show up on the island do unless they're on the run or have nowhere else to go. The so-called gifts we have get us ostracized and betrayed by those we think care about us and we run off and arrive here."

Hello struck a match and lit the cigarette, offering her a light as well before taking a long drag. He gave her a few moments to think before adding, "So what's your damage?"
