We Make it Up as We Go

Tess smiled as Zach seemed to stumble over his words. But she straightened up as he had some more serious words. Her heart did a little flutter as he said he would protect her.

"Don't worry about me. I tend to avoid trouble when I can. But of course I'll let you know if anyone bothers me."

She sighed as she thought about there were cruel people in the world. Like the ones who had hurt Zach and made him beleive he was a strong of numbers and that he was no one. No one with no friends. She wished such people were not in existence.

"I sure hope hope no one tries hurt me either. Then again, people will be people."

She furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the ground. She certainly had hoped no trouble would come to her here but then again, people were people and she had heard there were some people who were quite the characters. She just hoped she didn't run into any of them. Then again, that wasn't very practical.

"Well thank you for that. I know you will be there for me when I need it. I appreciate it."

She looked toward the log and stretched her legs, wondering what to say now. She'd been here with him for quite a while now but she didn't want to leave until he did.

"This is the fastest I've ever made a friend. Your also probably the best one I've ever had. And I haven't even know you for a day!"

Yes, after discovering her powers she had kept away from society. It was her not her friend and she not its. She had tried to make friends, in the past, but people thought she was strange. She was strange and she didn't know why society wasn't used to it yet. No one was normal anyway.

Tess stood up as well. She felt the blood rush to her feet and the rest of her felt less numb as well. She brushed off her skirts and fiddled with her hands.

"Oh yes indeed. Well, best of luck to you Zach, I hope to see you later!"

She brushed her hair out of face and past her shoulder down to her back. She set off on the path she came from, thinking about what had taken place. The sun was not as high in the sky as earlier and it was definitely later. It was a good day, she had no idea how it all happened but it had good. How fortunate for them both.
