"Hmm." The waiter came back then with a steaming mug of coffee on a saucer and a cold glass of root beer. Scarlet began flavoring her coffee with creamer and sugar.

The waiter smoothed his hair and straigtened his uniform. "Are you ready to order?" He asked politely, avoiding making eye contact with Ivan. "Indeed. I'd like the lasagna supreme in a white sauce, lightly salted." He answered, noticing what Scarlet referred to as odd behavior.

Scarlet watched what Ivan ordered before lifting her cup up to her mouth to take a sip. I'll have the same, she said with her mind, the mug still at her mouth.

"But of course." He answered politely, heading quickly toward the kitchen with their order. "I see what you mean." Ivan said, a puzzled expression on his face. "I guess it's an Italy thing. We should ask Charlie after dinner."

Scarlet nodded and set the cup back down. She had almost forgotten about Charlie. "Why did your father come here so much?"

Ivan still remembered the reason his father had given him. "Because most of the people in this city speak english. He says he feels like he belongs here."

Scarlet quirked a brow but din't say anything. She guessed her father-in-law had secrets he was hiding. Some she would probably never find out about.

The waiter returned to set the couple's meal on the table. "Sir. Madam. Enjoy your meal." The waiter was trying to seem dignified, but his excitement showed. Ivan grinned. The smell of their dinner wafted through the room, making quite a few people jealous that they had not ordered it. The waiter returned quickly, carrying two wine glasses and a large fancy looking bottle. "Complimentary champagne." He explained, setting them on the table. The sight of the lasagna was extremely seductive. "Dig in!" Ivan said, piercing the lasagna with his fork.

Scarlet was not sure if Italy had laws about minors drinking alcoholic beverages, but didn't intend to drink the liquid and have to find out. So she just began eating and alternated between drinking her coffee and water. "This is quite good!" She said after swallowing a bite. "Not as good as your cooking, Iv, but close." She smiled. No, she wasn't sucking up to him, only stating what she thought was true. Maybe she was prejudice, maybe not.

((O.o No, no, not Predjudice. That's bad. The word you're looking for is "biased." Predjudice is closer to racism!))

Ivan chuckled, pouring himself a small glass of champagne. He didn't intend on letting such a high-quality champagne to go to waste. "I'm glad you think so." Ivan said. It meant a lot to him that Scarlet preferred his cooking over that of a fine-dining Italian restaurant in Italy.
