Konpeitō raised his glass at Adelaida with a smile. Talking to someone who didn't think so much like a human was refreshing. Sure, Adelaida was human, and Konpeitō was raised like one (for the most part, kind of), but she was willing to accept the weirdness of his situation.

And then he was pulled in. He flinched, stopped midway through, and let his body tense as Adelaida's face got close to his. With dread, he worried she would try to kiss him. There was nothing wrong with women, but, well, he just couldn't get himself to swing that way.

Thankfully, she didn't go further.

"I'm happy I've met a similar-thinking woman." He tried to lean back from her, mostly in the hopes that she would release him. "So, pal, huh? Want to trade numbers?"

It was obvious from the reactions that Adelaida was not entirely welcome up this close, and she quickly scratched off a few mental plans she had milling about.

But well, it was a pleasant night anyway. She let go, and drank a little more. Her hands fumbled in her pockets for a while, until she realized that there wasn't anything in there to write with.

"Yeah, I don't mind trading numbers... just gimme something to put it on."

Well, that was awkward. For him, at least. He appreciated the space now set between them as his eyes wandered off, trying to forget how close things were to being so much worse.

"Ah!" his eyes settled back on Adelaida, "I have my phone. You can put—Actually, give me your number."

He took out his phone and pulled up his contacts app. Usually, it was easier to let someone put their number in his phone. Looking upon the drunk Adelaida made Konpeitō decide that wasn't the best method right now. His phone was protected in a screen protector and a purple case with cutesy animal, heart, skull, and knife stickers, but it was always better to be safe than sorry.

So with a cheery expression as if he wasn't recovering from embarrassment or thinking about the possibility of his broken shattering into pieces, he waited for Adelaida to give her number to him.

Adelaida began cheerily repeating a string of numbers, over and over, each time identical but slightly higher in pitch.

After the eleventh iteration she abruptly stopped and stared at her companion. "You got that? I did that exactly eleven times, and if you couldn't get it after eleven tries, I don't know what to say pal... that's just sad."

She stretched out her body, arms raised above her head. Eyes closed, a small smile on her lips. "Mmh! I haven't been actually drunk in ages. I should drink some more later to feel that again... I kind of miss cutting loose. Once we're done, of course. I'm not dragging you into that."

Konpeitō got the number down the first time, was confused the second and third time, then waited patiently for her to finish thereafter. Laughing, he nodded at her. "Yeah, I got that. That was impressive too." He wondered if she was a singer, then he remembered how weird-sounding some spells were. It was more likely her vocal cords were all kinds of flexible for magic.

"I don't get drunk," he said in reply to her second part as he pocketed his phone. "I could, but I worry about how I'd act if I was drunk. I don't like that kind of vulnerability."
