Konpeitō needed a break. No more would he wallow in his self-pity and whine to himself about how busy and tired he was. He wanted to have some fun. When was the last time he went to a night club? When was the last time he went to a simple bar? It had to be a while by now. A long, long while.

It had been some time since Konpeitō visited The Fox Hole. Konpeitō was deeply indebted to Jericho. Everything he did made his life better. It felt wrong to not support his business more often. So here he was, wearing his hair down, a black dress shirt with the top couple of buttons open, and black slacks.

He kept to the upstairs portion where the bar resided. Smoking wasn't Konpeitō's thing, and while the smoking area was beautiful, he didn't want to be where it was, even if it was aired out regularly. He liked it up here anyway. Sitting on a stool with his tails curled around him, he ordered himself a glass of blood, then observed the area around him. A night club would have been more blood-pumping. Right now, he just wanted to relax and enjoy the company of others. He wanted—No, he need to be content. Moving too fast was what made everything go wrong in the first place.

Adelaida hadn't visited this particular bar yet, which was a feat in its own considering how she'd frequented bars lately. A small portion of her mind worried that she might end up succumbing to alcoholism at this rate, but she was confident in her control, just as she always was.

It was just that everything else had been going by too fast. She considered her own busywork, and the extra work she took on to mentor Michi in the arcane, and her constant lack of sleep. It may have been too much for someone else, but Adelaida was fine. Just... tired.

She stepped up to the upper floor of the bar only to find a single person with tails occupying it. Some sort of metahuman... then again, she was one as well so it didn't bother her much.

"A whiskey please," she said to the tender, sitting down next to the person.

Konpeitō expected himself to have to get up and look for someone to speak to, but lo and behold, a young lady sat down beside him. After she ordered her whiskey, Konpeitō sat down his glass and gave her an energetic smile. "Hey there. Hope you don't mind some conversation. I expected this place to be busier, but, ah, it looks like I was out of luck this time."

Most of Konpeitō didn't mind whether she shot him down or not. He was used to being blunt with his need for conversation. He was a people person, and five years in solitude meant he had five more years as an excuse to be overly-sociable. Then there was a small part of him concerned he was bothering a woman who was tired and just wanted to get drunk on her own. But if that was the case, why not sit somewhere with no one near?

Adelaida smiled warmly, and took down the whiskey clean. Her tolerance for both conversation and alcohol were rising by the week, and in a way, she felt she should slow down for a bit. "Not at all. Bars are terrible alone, I think... whiskey tastes better with someone else."

She asked for another glass, but didn't drink it straight away, instead just holding the glass in her fingers and swirling it gently. "So what brings someone like you to a bar at night alone?"

The warm smile was definitely received well by Konpeitō. If his tails weren't wrapped around him, they would be curled up and swaying lightly. He barely took much notice of how she drank a whole glass of whiskey immediately.

"Boredom and a desperate need for a change of pace, mostly. I'm all drained from work. I want to relax and chat and have some fun. Also, the man who owns this bar is a friend of mine, so I figured if no one was up for a chat, I might be able to find him around here and annoy him. But enough rambling from me, what brings you here?" He paused to take a drink from his glass, already getting high from the chat.

"Have you ever had a voice in your head be so constant, so aggressive that you just had to drown it out? I have, and it's an absolute pain to shut up. The need to constantly be... occupied, one way or the other. Haven't had a wink of peaceful sleep in god knows how long." Adelaida drank again, this time slower. The conversation was helping keep the voices at bay, but who knows how long they would keep quiet.

"I'm slightly less obvious, but neither of us are human at this point... then again, on this island just about no one is, right?"

That was a bit hard to respond to. On this island, having a voice in your head could be plenty of things. A sign of mental illness, a metaphorical voice in your head, a whole other person who was possessing you, malicious telepathy.

He was going to go with a metaphorical voice for now. "I have to disagree with that last part. I understand what it's like feeling the need to work constantly. Ugh, I haven't slept in months either. That's why I'm here. But most of the islanders here are human, they just have powers or came here with more supernatural or magical family members."

Humanity - or at least, normality was a rarity in this island. A singularity of all sorts of strange folk, including Adelaida herself. Every stone here that one kicked up could reveal some sort of power.

"Nothing wrong with a bit of spice if you know what I mean. But I guess not everyone's left their humanity behind... you're right, you're right."

She took another sip and eyed her companion, and waited for a response, an inquiry.

"Physically? I never left my humanity behind, seeing as I wasn't one in the first place. Psychologically? Mm, debatable. I like to think I'm pretty human though. But what did you mean by 'a little bit of spice?"

After he asked his question, he drank the rest of his blood, then asked for a refill.

"Abilities. Gives this island a bit more variety than the outside world. Back where I was from, I was the only one who... stopped being a normal human, so there's that. Debatable on whether I still think and behave like a normal human though."

Adelaida certainly wasn't shy about what she was at this point, nor did she really mind having changed so much. She'd had plenty of time to process the events and even back when it was recent, she was abnormally okay with what had happened.

"Hey. Think it's normal to be so okay with not being normal?"
