Doll watches the rain from the door, a look of horror on her face. What is it? Does it hurt? How did my knitting get on the ground? Thunder booms loudly overhead and she jumps, closing the door behind her friend with a shaky hand.

"T-Thanks." she mumbles, taking the knitting and slipping it into her basket. She looks back up and Jaz and gasps! "Oh, did it hurt you?" she asks nervously. She pulls a finished scarf out of the basket and offers it to him. "Use this." she nods.

She steps back and looks at the outside through a window. "What is it?" she ask curiously, almost afraid to even watch the rain.

Jazariel was glad when she took the knitting back. It hadn't been heavy, but it wasn't something he needed to continue to carry. He pulled the hair tie from his hair and scoffed when his hair fell around his face, darkened to a soft gray by the dampness. Locks clung to his face in odd positions until he swiped them behind his ears.

Her offering of the scarf was cute, albeit weird. "Why would it hurt me?" he asked, taking the scarf for fear that it might hurt her feelings if he didn't. It was only water; he wasn't going to go ahead and melt or drown. Then he remembered how childish, innocent, and ignorant she was.

"It's rain," he answered. "It's only water. It's no different than the stuff you take a shower with or the stuff you drink," he explained. "And the loud noise is only thunder. It's just a noise, it won't hurt you. It's doubtful that lightning will strike you either, so don't be so scared."

Doll looks sadly down at her dripping knitting, and shakes it, trying to get the water out. In the end, she sets it on the windowsill and sits down on the floor. Out of the basket, she pulls her right hand, and tries to sow it back on, advancing with some difficulty. After all, she was right handed. "Well, it could hurt you because it would soak into your skin and make it weak, and fall apart.. And it will weaken what holds you together, until your body parts start to fall off.." she shudders with dark memories.

"What is a shower? And why is thunder so loud? What's lightening? Why would it strike me?" she finishes sewing her hand on only for it to fall off again. She sighs, and tries to re-thread the needle with one hand. She looks pleadingly at Jazariel for help.

((Puppy dog eyes! xD :whattheflying?: ))

Jazariel watched with little interest as she began her attempts to sew her hand back onto her wrist. Although it wasn't something he thought he would be doing, he was her guardian; he had to know how she worked and this, as "grotesque" as it was, counted in that. The apathy that traced his features began to dissipate at her reason, his eyes widening in genuine concern.

"Has that happened to you before? How many times?" He looked down at her, fear gripping at him. He had no choice but to be worried like this.

Sighing in exasperation, Jazariel gave in. Her expression got to whatever pieces of his heart he still had left and he took her hand and the needle. "I can't sew very well," he said, "so if your hand is crooked don't blame me." He placed her hand at the base of her wrist where it lined up and began to thread the needle through her 'flesh,' silent for a few moments.

"You take a shower when you're dirty to clean up. Thunder is loud because the clouds collide. Lighting is electricity... kind of. It would strike you randomly." He shrugged.

Doll passes the needle and thread onto him, sniffling. "Sorry about this.. It really doesn't happen often.. I just fell down the other day.. Down some stairs.. And then out a window. And I guess I didn't sow it on right. And this only happens when I hit something really hard. The first time it happened, I was escaping.." her eyes turn dreamy. "The only way out was down a cliff.. It took forever to piece myself back together.. A week, I think.. It was quite a tall cliff.. And Heidi and Rita were still there.." she shakes her head, dispelling the thought. "Anyways.."

"It's alright if it's crooked. If it falls off again, then we can just repeat until you, or me, gets it right.. It's always worst when it's the right hand. And why do they crash together wit that much noise? How can 'anything' make that much noise? And why would lightening randomly strike you? Shouldn't it plan things out?"

Jazariel remained concentrated on the stitches while she spoke. A part of him wondered what it would be like to tune her out. It would be amusing and quite possible, but he knew it would only make her more bothersome than she already was. He'd neglected to answer one of her earlier questions and she hadn't let him be about it, if he ignored her for a long time he almost feared what her almost childish rage might do to him.

He'd never liked children at all.

"What place? You shouldn't have run away from home." Jazariel didn't look up at her, and that response had only come from half-listening.

He sighed, hoping he'd get it right. Was it in his job description to sew on hands? Ugh. He rolled his eyes, only to forget his aggravation momentarily when more questions pounded at him. "I don't know why they do. They're angry, maybe? And lightning can't plan, only living things can plan, and lightning isn't alive."

Doll frowns. "What is a home..? Was it really there? They wanted to get rid of me. I heard them.. But Heidi and Rita wouldn't listen.. Was it right? Was that room home?" she remains silent for a time, and unmoving, and for a few moments, she just looks like an over-sized rag doll bought right out of a toy shop. She seems to be thinking deeply over very serious matters. Her lips wobbles uncontrollably. "W-Was it right to leave? They wouldn't come with me. They wouldn't. I had seem them, both of them.." she shakes her head. and leans against the wall, defeated. "I shouldn't have run away..? Does that mean I should go back? No. I can't. Can I?"

Deep, searing regret slashed at his chest. They'd wanted to get rid of her. Those were the words that made him wake up, that made him realize maybe tuning her out wasn't a good idea. A deep sigh passed through his nostrils and he cursed himself for chiding her, not looking up to look at her face again until he thought he had properly sewed on her hand.

"Who didn't want you?" he asked, though it was more of a command. Finally his eyes lifted to meet hers. "It's my turn to ask questions. Did they hurt you? Did they know you left? Do you think they'll be after you?" His muscles tensed at the last question. Coming after her; the idea seemed so foreign, but he knew it could very well become reality depending on how dark her past had been.

Doll watches him sew with large, sad eyes. When she finishes, she flexes her hand and keeps her eyes on it, not wanting to look up at anything. "Who? The people in the big factory. Yes, they hurt all of us; They chased me off a cliff; And I.. don't know.." These weren't simple questions, like what was rain, or why the sun was so bright.

Doll keeps her eyes trained on the floor. "The bad man told me he was an evil person, but we didn't care.. He had made us. At first, we weren't rag dolls, but the factory men were scared of living dolls. So they.. They just cut us up. But not out vital spot. So the evil man sewed us back together and taught us all kinds of 'useful' things.. Then, the day after this, we were put in a tiny room after the evil man was dragged away. That was when I heard.. I always heard the best.. Heidi's and Rita's ears were damaged.. They said something about acid, and extermination, and that's when I knew. I escaped. And ended up here.." she glances out the window.

"Why does the rain stop so fast?" she asks, changing the topic quickly.

Jazariel took all this information in with an utterly stoic expression. He'd been told nothing of this girl, not even a reason why he needed to protect her. There was no way for him to make connections, and she changed subjects so fast... He sighed. He would find a way to learn everything in a clearer way, from the factory's location to the "bad man's" name. He'd figure it all out, if for no other reason than it was his duty.

"Rain stops once there's no more water to fall from the sky," he said. "It can last for days, hours, or only a few minutes. It depends on the day."

It amazed him how someone could be so utterly simple.

"How does your hand feel?" he asked.
