The scent of knowledge attracts me to the nerds

The library, the only other place other than his own dorm where he knew that he wouldn't be bothered by anyone. He needed new textbooks for Biology, as apparently the one that he had gotten was 'out of date' for the level that he was at. Going to the science section, he scanned for the location that he vaguely remembered from before. He needed to prepare for the next semester, that was coming sooner than he wanted to think. Giving himself a few seconds to pick out four different books, he quickly carried them all back, trying to put them lightly on the table, but failed, making a loud plopping noise. Getting stares from the other people in the room, who were happily reading their books, Maylynn hid behind his stack, even though he knew that everyone had already seen him.

It looked glorious.

Well, the library itself was glorious, but the book fort that had been practically built on one side of the long tables looked even better. Yesterday wondered why nobody had told him of the miracle that was the library. And why did the humans not appreciate it more? There were whole worlds at their fingertips right here!

Aside from closing time, Yesterday had spent literally every moment the library was open reading. He didn't need to eat or sleep, so why did he need to dedicate his time to anything else? He was buried under an almost literal pile of books that he categorized into read, reading through and making notes of. The stacks were rather neat, and he soon found himself lost in the world of books once again.

That was, until his systems felt a vibration going through the table following a loud thud. Yesterday peered up curiously at the boy who plopped himself down at the other end with a few books of his own. Funny enough, he looked much like himself.

Blushing with embarrassment over the mishap, Maylynn quickly picked himself up, still half hiding under his books as he picked the top one, sitting in the chair by his table, opening it up before he caused anymore trouble. He had gotten some weird stares. Considering that he didn't want to spend his entire time hiding from people that he would be seeing often if he had to keep getting new books. Shoving his face into the book, he ignored everyone, wanting his redness to go away finally.

Oh, looked like the boy didn't notice. But how could he not notice? Maybe he was just ignoring it. Ah yes, perhaps he was feeling the emotion of embarrassment! That would be a logical explanation, wouldn't it? Yesterday continued to peer at him long after everyone else went back to whatever it was they were doing.

Shameless as he was, Yesterday climbed out of his pile of books and walked over to the boy until he was standing at the table directly across from him. His face remained stoic and still, unmoving. Expressions were still quite confusing for him, unfortunately.

"Hello."

Focusing only on his book, Maylynn tried to ignore everything else around him as best he could. He didn't want to disrupt people, or have to apologize to everyone in the room, for his little mishap. Sighing lightly, he felt someone watching him, as if there was a hidden camera. Looking up quickly to check his theory, it was met with a 'hello' from another person that looked a lot like him. Jumping lightly, he fell off his chair, dropping his book on his face. Grunting, he was on the ground, laying there motionless. Pulling the book off of his face, a redness across his cheeks was completely visible. Looking up at the person that looked like his doppelganger, he gave an embarrassed look at him.

Oh dear, he seemed to have startled the boy. He didn't think he had crept up to him that silently. In fact, he'd thought he'd just been walking. Oh, perhaps this boy was deaf. Or blind? No, he was reading a normal book, he couldn't be blind.

Yesterday gave him a little wave, the same stoic look on his face. Smiling was still difficult; coordinating all those facial muscles at once was difficult and he'd never really had to do so at home. He'd need to practice, but not right now or else he'd probably frighten the human boy even more.

"Hello." He repeated, unsure if he'd heard him the first time or not. "I am just wondering what you were reading. It looks heavy." And if there was a single thing he'd learned on earth so far, it was that the heavier books contained more knowledge.

Knowing that the boy seemed rather interested in what he was doing, his two options were to go invisible, or to try and get the man out of his personal space, politely of course. "H-Hello." Maylynn said nervously, as if he was some type of school girl who had just bumped into their crush. He slowly got to his feet, closing the book as he brought it up in his hand.

"I'm reading stuff for my major." Maylynn said blandly, blinking a few times as he held the book in his left hand, moving it to in between his left and right. "Biology, want to see?" He said faintly as he lifted his hands, in an attempt to pass the book over to the man. "Sorry about the noise and all..." Looking away, he put a strand of his hair behind his ear.

Major? What was a major?

Yesterday leaned in closer, entirely curious as to what the boy was reading for his 'major', whatever that was. He'd need to take a closer look at it later. For the time being, this biology stuff looked fairly interesting, too. Wasn't biology the science of living things? Ah yes, that would be useful. He needed to learn about humans and plants and all those strange animals they had on earth.

"Yes, I do want to see." He reached out for the book, taking it gingerly from the boy and opening it up to the first page. He welcomed himself to a seat across from him, oblivious to whether or not that was actually appropriate.

"Oh, it would be no worries. I don't mind as long as I can gain knowledge." Read. He meant to say read. Sort of. Human language was still being analyzed and the correct algorithm still being found.

Blushing lightly as the boy approached him closer, he wanted to disappear and leave the room. Standing there utterly still, he was relieved when he moved away and grabbed the book. As he sat down, Maylynn did the same, adjusting his chair first. Watching the weird man as he looked through the textbook, his gaze was cut as he heard him say something weird. "Gain?" It wasn't too odd to say, but most people would say read, not gain, even though in sense, by reading you were gaining knowledge.

Yesterday glanced up from his book again, head cocked slightly to one side. Did he say the wrong word? Darn, he probably did and now the boy was going to start questioning. Or maybe if he was too shy to question, just get suspicious. Ah, and he thought he was doing so well, too!

"Yes, gain. Gain knowledge. Is this not correct?" He pointed down at the book. "You read and gain knowledge?" He'd read something in a book once about how confidence could get you through everything. Or, as the humans liked to say, 'fake it until you make it'.

He turned his attention back to the book, but he could multitask; he'd been installed with that software from the get-go. "Do you spend much time here? I find it a fascinating place."
