Lochlann arched an eyebrow when she gasped. He gave her a slow smile and another gentle laugh.

“I don’t mean for this to come out the wrong the wrong way,” Lochlann started, “But you act like you’ve never had a friend before. I think it’s just hard to believe because you’re so much fun to be with.”

He reached behind him and groped around for the picnic basket, searching for the strawberries. When he found it, he popped the top off and grabbed a handful to place on his stomach. He munched on one while offering the container up to her. Lochlann was quiet for a moment, content to enjoy the sun, the good company, and the strawberries.

“I don’t usually feel comfortable about people knowing my secre
t,” he said. “But….I don’t mind so much that you know. I feel like I can trust you.”

He squinted and then said, “But I don’t think I’m going to go up a tree again for a little bit….”

He took another strawberry.
“….at least not until we go looking for the hopoee.”

“I don’t mean for this to come out the wrong the wrong way, But you act like you’ve never had a friend before”

Avian immediately shifted her gaze away from him, and slowly took a strawberry from the container. She ate like a bird, slowly nibbling at the end of it. How did he figure she hadn't had friends before? Was it so obvious?

"Erm...Well that's because you're right," she answered quietly, "You're my first friend. I mean, unless you count birds as my friends. But you're my first 'people' fr-friend,"

She realized how pathetic it was that she had had been alive for a little over sixteen years, and only made her first friend just now. Most people made their first friends when they were in preschool!

“I don’t usually feel comfortable about people knowing my secret. But….I don’t mind so much that you know. I feel like I can trust you."

Her cerulean eyes perked back up when he said this, bent up in a puzzled stare. That was almost as unexpected as the last "friend" statement!

"Well that's another first," she said as if she were out of breath, "I've never had someone else trust me before. I guess that comes with being fr-friends, huh?"

She thought about the idea of trust for a moment. It seemed like a heavy responsibility to carry around, something she had to make sure not to break. But then again, trust didn't seem to be something given out so lightly, so she decided to be grateful for his trust.

"So you have my trust too!" she grinned at him, then reached for a second strawberry.

Lochlann thought about that while he chewed on a strawberry.

"Everyone else is just missing out then," he said.

The sea gulls seemed much calmer now that he wasn't a horse anymore, so Lochlann tossed them the ends of his strawberries and tilted his head back to watch.

"Well that's another first," she said as if she were out of breath, "I've never had someone else trust me before. I guess that comes with being fr-friends, huh? ..."So you have my trust too!" she grinned at him, then reached for a second strawberry.

He looked back when she started to talk and then returned her smile. For some reason, her words really touched him, although it was difficult to determine what sort of feelings that brought up in him. It made him both happy and sad, although it was definitely a good kind of sad, if that was even possible.

"I'm glad," he said. "I can't wait to do this again with you. It's almost time for me to go back...but do you wanna watch the clouds before I go?"

ooc: feel like wrapping up soon?

Like she wasn't bothered by his horse form, he didn't seem bothered by her lack of friendship. She was glad he didn't overreact or look at her in pity.

"Everyone else is just missing out then,"

Nobody at home seemed to think so. Avian was always made fun of as the "birdy girl" at school. All the other kids would make bird jokes about her or even chase off her birds. So, she had just given up on making friends. No point in making any if none wanted you around. Especially after...the ravens. Avian tried to get that last memory out of her head as best she could.

"...but do you wanna watch the clouds before I go"

"Okay," she nodded.

Taking off her sunhat, she placed it on the grass and lay on it like a pillow, staring up at the puffy clouds. Carefully studying each one, she looked for any that were shaped like birds.

(ooc: Yeah, we can wrap up now if you want)
