Looking around at the buildings near by Hudson was in awe, this was his first time stepping out of the school into the city proper and it did not disappoint. He wasn't sure what he had expected but this place was great! It was so busy and full of life, unlike the farm back home where you were lucky to see someone unrelated to you maybe once a month or so.

He had been cramped up in that school for so long the need to get out and explore just took over, plus the fact he really had a mighty thirst to quench. Thus his little expedition into the city began, a bar hunt! He had gone around down town asking folks where to go, getting a lot of different opinions by some very colourful people. One place that kept coming up more often then not was this Temptations place, usually followed by a knowing wink. Whatever he was supposed to know Hudson didn't care as long as the beer was cold!

He had followed the directions given to him and started to hum a song as he did, the one from that TV show about a bar where everyone cheers when you walk in. He doubted it was going to be like that exactly but it would be nice to find a regular place to drink. Living so far outside town back in Saskatchewan you never really had that place, his Dad mostly made sure the fridge in the garage was stocked up and they drank at home. Hudson secretly suspected this was a ploy to keep him close by in case there was more work that popped up.

Hudson would have kept on this train of thought if he had not come to the address given to him, a large Gothic style cathedral or something, clearly this had to be the wrong place! Frowning he stood outside for a moment before shrugging at nothing in particular and deciding to check it out anyway. He had heard of weirder places then this being converted to bars before so why not?

Pushing his way through the doors Hudson entered the establishment and then froze on the spot. What the hell was this place? The statues, and those outfits?! This couldn't be real could it? The poor farm boy stood there mouth hanging wide open for a few moments before he noticed that a few people where starting to notice him standing there looking rather shocked.

Clamping his mouth shut and hoping to whatever gods where listening that he wasn't blushing Hudson spotted what he could only assume was the bar and marched through the lounge like a man on a mission. Once he reached the bar the poor guy placed his elbows down on it and rested his head in his hands.

“I just wanted a beer!” he moaned to no one in paticular. “What even IS this place?!”

Neon

Neon never really imagined himself as the hooker type, but to be fair, he wasn't really the imagining type. He was a perfect, model student turned fast food chain cashier slash known hobo junkie, living in a super secret island at the middle of the Atlantic ocean filled with magical creatures most people couldn't even dream. Right. The only logical leap his ass backwards topsy turvy life could take was... prostitution. Yeah, that seemed legit.

Jesus. How he got here was even more absurd. He attempted to take a crime lord's life a while back, and after the man came back from the grave, he invaded his life like a desperate romance novel protagonist. They started dating, and he eventually signed up to join his brothel as a bartender and prostitute. It was like, there was a missing link to tie in this bullshit together, but now it was gone and nothing made sense but evidence suggested that these were real things that actually happened.

He'd been working here a week. He hated to admit it, but he was a natural. He'd always been fond of sex. He liked to think of himself as a very talented amateur. Now, he supposed, he was doing it professionally. It wasn't something he could imagine doing for 12 hours every single day, so he liked to chill behind the bar and serve drinks, maybe steal a few drinks before midnight hit.

Ever since Temptations opened, it garnered the attraction of many Islanders, not just the ones looking for a fuck for a fifty. Lots of giggling girls in their twenties liked to have their dinner at the grill for many selfie opportunities, and some families treated it like a novelty family restaurant. The bar was where the singles piled in, where the workers walked up to them and invited them to a friendly chat. There was a particular single that caught his attention.

Not in an attraction way, more like... hm. More like, if his phone wasn't in the back charging, he would've filmed him and uploaded this on YouTube. He stormed into the bar, redfaced, like a conservative in the early 1900s accidentally seeing the Southern Belle's scandalous ankle. Truth be told, it was rather adorable. Neon filled a beer glass with weizenbier and offered it to the man, friendly smile on his face.

"Buddy, how about you try, Neon, one beer please?" He tapped his nametag. "So, I'm going to take a shot at the dark here, but you seem like the sort of man that's never seen a titty before."

This was one of the first days on the job for Vinanye and boy oh boy was she excited! Granted, being a prostitute and waitress may have seemed strange to most... erm, traditional cultures? But for Vinnie, it was the same as any job. She'd never had one before, in the land of Fae things just sort of were, as far as she'd seen. Sex wasn't a huge deal there, either. As most natural things, it just was.

First coming to the island, Vin had been afraid and alone. Then she'd seen the fliers for a job opening. She'd gone to an interview and met Gabriel Baltimore and Klaus Rosales. Now she was here. Simple, natural, normal. But Vinnie didn't seem the type to be a prostitute. She wasn't sultry or anything like that. She was cute. She was peppy. She loved people. At least, Vinnie could walk around a room without unease. She was comfortable in all places and around all manners of individuals.

That day, she'd been moving with a little skip in her step, as she often did, when a man she'd never seen (and she was quite good with faces!) came in and made a beeline for the bar before loudly talking about Temptations and drinks. He seemed out of sorts! Vinanye hated people being unhappy -- another reason to join prostitution; people were very satisfied afterward.

The Gem skipped her way over, giving a friendly little wave to Neon as she did so. She knew him! Of course, she did. She knew nearly all the employees, but especially the ones with neon hair, because how could she not?

"Hello, Neon!" Vinnie's bubbly way of speaking may not have matched the sexualized outfit she wore. Or maybe it did? This culture was still difficult for the Fae to understand. So was it's language, but working here had helped her, if only a little.

She sat at the empty seat by Hudson's side and turned to face him beaming. "And hello, new man. I am afraid I do not know your name, but mine is Vinnie." She motioned to a nametag at her breast.

It was rare for people to become nervous by Vinnie's forward approach. Her magic was a comfort and people saw her with the traits that put them at ease. Some people got flustered by her. That was attraction she was learning.

Hudson looked up to see a man behind the bar talking to him and flashing a name tag, though at least there was also a beer in front of him. Hudson stared at him for a brief moment and then quickly picked up the glass and drained it in one long pull. You could say whatever you want about prairie boys, but the one thing they could do well was drink. Setting the empty glass down he sighed.

Another beer please, Neon.” he said as he tried not to slump so much. “And you'd be wrong, ish. It's been a while at least. I just...”

The farm boy clamped his mouth shut at this point, for some reason he was sharing a bit more information then he would have liked. He wasn't sure if it was the fact that this was probably the first true social interaction he had off campus since he got to this island, or just that he had been taken off guard by this place. Either way it was already starting to be an interesting night.

Apparently though things were about to become a lot more interesting as another person joined him at the bar, this time it was a rather strange girl who happily introduced herself as Vinnie, as proclaimed both by voice and a name tag she was happily showing off. What was it with these people and their name tags? There was something strange about this girl though, almost reminded him of someone he knew back home. There was something else though, something that took a moment for him to place. She was way too happy. Like normal people are never that happy! Still whatever it was it was kind of infectious, as if her good mood would rub off on him as well.

For a moment Hudson looked at her, then back to this Neon fellow, and then above his own head wondering if there was a huge brightly lit sign about his head that said 'fresh meat' with an arrow pointing at him. He started to laugh a bit at this thought and shook his head before looking back at Vinnie, starting to clam down now and smile.

Sorry! Sorry, I'm not laughing at you! Honest. You see,” he was having trouble finding the words to explain whatever was going on, as he had no idea exactly what was happening at the moment. He then decided it was best to just drop it and introduce himself. “Name's Hudson, and if you can't tell I'm feeling a bit like a fish out of water here.”

Strange was not even going to start describing how this night was going

Neon took the empty glass and refilled it, listening to Hudson tell his story. From his experience as a bartender way, way before Temptations ever came into being, he noticed that there wasn't anyone a man could trust more than the person that served him drinks. He laughed at the admission.

"Yeah? No need to be embarrassed. Buddy, you know I don't care right? I'm not gonna remember... unless you stop by to see me in the future." He winked. Oh, Neon liked to flirt, but not when there was a full bar. It wasn't time to change outfits just yet. When Vinanye came around, Neon gave her a mock salute. "Take care of this one, Vinnie. We've got a full bar tonight."

With that, he pushed himself off the counter to serve the other people in the bar.

[ OOC: Sorry for the delay. As much as I'd love to continue, things came up, and it's been bad for me so I'm ducking out of the thread. ]

Vinnie grinned the moment Hudson began to laugh. Vinanye, unlike most Fae where she was from, was not easily offended. She almost always assumed people were laughing with her and not at her.

Vinanye's smile did waver when he mentioned being a fish out of water. She searched for the meaning of such a phrase, but didn't understand it in the least. Vin didn't understand Earthly idioms or metaphors.

"It is nice to meet you, Hudson!" She glanced at Neon as he went back to work and gave a somewhat shy seeming wave before honing her attention back in on Hudson. "What would help you back into the water?"

Accepting the glass gratefully Hudson took a sip from it while listening to the bartender, of course he didn't care but that comment about stopping by to see him in the future got Hudson curious at least. Still, as soon as the man finished speaking he left Hudson sitting there with the other employee, so that is who the farm boy now turned his attention to. After he had introduced himself she seemed to get a weird look on her face, the smile disappearing for a brief moment, though when she spoke again he understood why.

“Sorry, it is just a saying. No actual water needed!” that was stupid, why couldn't he speak properly? He paused for a moment trying to think of a better way to explain it. “It just means I am feeling uncomfortable, that it isn't a place I would usually go.”

Bringing the beer glass to his lips Hudson took a large gulp in hopes that drinking more would settle him down a bit. He wasn't sure why he was feeling so relaxed but flustered at the same time! Was it the beer and the fact he had barely had anything to eat today, or was it something about this girl?

“As far as getting me comfortable this is helping.” he nodded to the beer glass before going on. “And, well, the company seems to be helping too. A lot actually. ”

He raised his glass to her in a sort of salute before taking another sip and setting it back on the bar.

Smooth Hudson, way to trip over your words and look like an idiot he thought to himself. He he was out in the big wide world seeing what the island had to offer and he was tripping over himself like an awe struck farm boy. Well, the fact that he was in fact an awe struck farm boy probably wasn't helping with that either.

“Man, I must sound like an fool. There is just something, I don't know,” he paused for a second and then shook his head. “I grew up on a farm, not many people around. M' not the best in social situations you could say.”

Anyone who knew Hudson well would agree with this, as well as note that he had been talking an awful lot for once. Whatever was going on something about this girl just made him open up to her, like she felt familiar to him somehow.

"Oh," Vinanye tittered, delighted by this new expression. "I must apologize, I am new to this," Vin waved her hand at her mouth, searching for the correct word, "speech? I am from Underhill, and we do not talk like you do here." Perhaps to help him feel less awkward, or because Vinnie considered it rude not to share, she said, "when we are feeling uncomfortable in Underhill we usually do not say so, but sometimes, we say, 'a weed in the flower patch.'"

Vinnie only grinned when he took another shot of alcohol. She leaned on the bar, using her right hand to keep her head up. "No, no, I do not think you sound like a fool at all. You are very sincere and kind. That is nothing to be regretful of."

If Vin had been a different Fae, one more powerful and underhanded, she might have kept her abilities to herself and let him go on thinking he was just naturally comfortable around him. That this was a special reaction and they had some secret bond. Vinnie was none of those things, however. She was genuine and honest.

"That is my power. It helps people calm down and feel good." Vinnie internally debated something before continuing in her explanation. "It is supposed to have people see me differently too. Glamour." She recalled that someone in Fairyland had once told her that glamour was a Fae specialty, but whether that was a fact or matter of opinion was still yet to be seen.

Vinnie stared into Hudson's eyes when she could, enthralled by the odd ring of yellow encircling the pupil. She was very much a physical person, unperturbed by physical contact and always ready to reach out and touch other people. Even Vin could see that might not be a good idea right now. Hudson was on edge; not as much as he had been, but enough.

"I do not believe I have seen eyes like yours before. They are beautiful." Abruptly, Vinnie sat straight. In the outfit she wore, the action showed off the curve at her waist and the slight shape of her breasts. Whether Vinnie herself realized such a thing was up for debate, because her smile never wavered and her friendly attitude remained firmly that, rather than hinting to any seduction on her part.

"What can I do to make you more comfortable then, fish out of water?"

Who couldn't help but feel at ease around this girl? A total monster, that is who, and Hudson was no monster. He smiling now, laughing even, as they spoke. Also a weed in the flower patch? He was totally going to have to remember that one for later! Though he wasn't sure exactly where this Underhill place was and made a note to ask about it later, but for now Hudson was content with the conversation at hand.

He listened as she explained to him about her powers and nodded his head, that actually seemed like a rather useful thing to have. It was much more useful then the curse he had been burdened with.

“Yeah, that seems like a useful gift, being able to calm folks down.” He almost made a joke about asking to trade powers but then decided against it as he wasn't sure exactly where her sense of humour was at. ”A lot more then mine.”

He mentally waved off all talk about powers though, as it was getting into territory he wanted to avoid right now. He was out to drink and forgot about his worries for a bit after all, not confront them. He hadn't been sure what to say after that until she mentioned his eyes though, but this was something he could talk about! He was a biology student after all, and he even looked it up when he was younger!

“My eyes? Yeah, I have a condition called hetrochromia iridum. Means having two different colours in your eyes.” He paused long enough to take another drink, making this one last, before he went on. ”Cases like mine where it is around the center in a ring like that are called, funnily enough, central hetrochromia iridum. And yeah, there are all different kinds of this condition. Usually just means different places the extra colour shows up in.”

Hudson couldn't tell if she was flirting with him or not, as she seemed to be just overly friendly all the time, and even if she was he probably would not have even noticed. Subtly like that is sometimes lost on him, most people needing to take a more direct approach to get an idea through his thick skull. She asked again what they could do to make things comfortable and honestly Hudson couldn't really say!

“I'm honestly not sure, I mean we are on the right track and all!” He laughed a bit at this, feeling overly awkward again. “Good beer, a beautiful girl, and good conversation are all things that seem to be good for the soul!”

As he spoke this last bit he seemed to slip back into a slightly awkward state, but it was less 'Oh god oh god oh god what am I doing here?!?!' thing and more of a 'Oh god oh god what do I say and why is she even talking to me man is she pretty!' thing. Hopefully though it wasn't showing, and even more so Hudson hoped he wasn't overtly staring at her either as his eyes slowly started to wander now and then.

There was no joy to Vinanye like talking about her homeland. Something about expressing their culture and informing people on Earth what it was like in Underhill was utter magic. It did make Vinnie wonder what things were like back home. Time moved differently Under the Hill. Faster, where Precious Stone was concerned.

She snapped from her reverie when Hudson commented on the usefulness of her power. Vin nodded enthusiastically, a smile growing. "Yes! It was a sweet gift of Underhill to give me indeed. It is because she favored me."

Vinnie might have asked what Hudson's powers were, but he didn't seem keen on bringing them up, and she wouldn't push. Instead, she cheerfully allowed for the conversation to switch over to his strangely colored eyes. On Manta Carlos, plenty of eyes were oddly colored, but that didn't stop Vinnie from being intrigued by all of them.

Vinanye giggled and reached out to touch Hudson's arm gently. "It is unfortunate that I might not talk all day with you! You are very fun." She paused, thoughtful, and then said, "would you like to have sex?"
