The worker heard the frantic playing, and darted from the back office to see what was happening. The adoption papers, medical papers, pamphlets explaining epilepsy, hotlines and strict outlines on what to do were thrown to one side as she moved to kneel beside the girl and run her fingers through her mouth, checking to see if it was clear.

As she did this, she spoke, "She has epilepsy. When she has a seizure, she has to be put onto her side, so that there is no chance of her choking on her tongue or vomit -" She would what she said as she said it. "- and be prepared for bloody spittle, as she might bite into her cheek or tongue."

The woman was relatively calm. "Sometimes her seizures are not like this; her most common ones are called absence seizures, where she will just stare into space for a few seconds at a time. They're common in children, and usually are hard to notice. She does have others, though. It's all explained in the packets I brought out."

She spoke quietly, "This seizure is referred to as a secondarily generalized seizure, it happened suddenly without too much warning. They're hard to miss because of the flailing, the drama of it all."

After she was done speaking, she was quiet. The girl had stopped seizing and was just laying there, looking rather drowsy - almost like she was drugged. She sniffed quietly and rubbed her eyes, staring upward as she pushed herself upright, sniffling to herself. She clambered away from the worker and clung to her new daddy, quite afraid he was really going to leave her now. "Don' go." She mumbled.

His guitar playing worked. Soon enough, the worker came rushing out with a bunch of papers in her hand. The papers were cast aside as she moved over to the little girl. He moved a bit to allow her to do her thing. Then she went into an in-depth explanation on what just happened. The girl suffered from epilepsy; Faeyt could have a seizure at random moments. When a seizure happened, she was to be moved on her side so that she didn't choke. He listened carefully to the woman's explanation. He took in all the information and recorded it in his mental database. To think that the poor girl had such a debilitating illness...perhaps that was why people were reluctant on adopting her.

After the speech was over, a moment of silence happened. The girl stirred from her state. She was conscious again and seemed pretty fine. It was like she had just went to sleep. From her expression though, she was aware of what just happened to her. She was also concerned that it was going to scare him off. He could see the four-year-old clambering to him. He let her clung to him and hugged her tight. He then heard what was undeniably her voice.

"Don' go."

"I won't go."

His hand relayed this simple yet powerful three-word message. He was not going to leave. She was coming home with him. The man snuggled her like she was already his daughter.

The worker watched the scene, smiling as she claimed the hastily discarded papers of earlier. "We have not figured out what type of fae she is, but she is obviously fae- the ears tell us that much." She was stacking the packet up, the paperwork to adopt the girl on top.

"Faeyt? While me and your new daddy fill out all this stuff, would you like to go get your things?" The child did not have much; but what she did have, the worker expected her to take.

Faeyt bobbed her head excitedly, tugging free of her new father's arms, to run toward one of the many cubbies on the far-wall, still in her father's view. She began tugging a raggedy teddy bear, missing one arm and a leg, both its eyes, its nose and a lot of its stuffing. The next item was a card - it was worn from being looked at so much, and was in the child's bad handwriting.

The teddy in her arms, card in a hand, the girl deposits the card onto the desk where her father is most likely seated at by now, filling out paperwork.

The card reads:

"Der nee dady or momy,
I is Fawt an' I is foow yees ol' an' I hops yo'll takk me homm wit' yo.
I is sikk but I is niic and swee' too! I likes to makk frien' and bee niic to evurryun' 'cause bein' mean is bad!
I hopp yo likk mee."
The rest of it is written in the neat hand of the worker -

"Dear new daddy or mommy,
I am Faeyt and I am four years old and I hope you will take me home with you.
I have epilepsy but I am super sweet and I like everybody! They don't even have to like me! I like to be nice to everyone, too! I get sad when I see other children get adopted, because they are much healthier than me, and they get forever mommies and daddies. I get made fun of because my ears are really big, and that makes me sad but I never make fun of anyone else! It isn't nice!
I hope you like me, and decide to take me home with you."
The little girl peered upward as she clambered into the chair that was next to her father, plopping down in it and setting her teddy bear on the counter. It was a pitiful little toy.

The worker was chattering away about restrictions for her diet, explaining her illness, showing the pamphlets, doing everything her job description ordered her too.

The young man followed the worker after Faeyt got out of his arms. He stood up and strolled over to one of the cubicles. He listened carefully to the woman as she was going through the usual procedures. He nodded at different points to show that he was paying attention, and he also maintained eye contact with her. He then glanced down at the paperwork and began to shift through it as she was referencing different points of it. He read everything and looked for the spots where he needed to sign. Whenever he found one, he took the pen and scribbled down the information required. Paperwork was never fun, but this time it was worth it.

As he was filling out the papers, he noticed a card slide onto the table from the corner of his eye. He glanced over to look at it. His hand gently took the card as he read what was said. He could just barely understand what Faeyt wrote. Her handwriting was so messy yet cute just like many little kids. Then he read the neat handwriting of probably one of the workers. It translated Fae's note and also added a few points. Hearing that she got bullied for her differences punched him right in his gut. A soft smile appeared on his face as he held back tears. He put the card down and went back to signing the papers.

Once he finished doing that, he stacked the papers neatly and in order and put the cap back on his pen. He would definitely have to read the pamphlets. That was when he also noticed the teddy bear she had was in complete disarray. He could probably fix poor teddy up once they got home.

Faeyt giggled as she bounced up and down, clapping her hands. The chair was bouncy - it was dangerous; but she was fine.

The worker glanced through the papers, pursing her lips. The man worked here, then? Good. She stamped the papers easily, she did not need to do any background checks - the school would not have hired someone who would hurt children.

"She's yours. I'll miss you, little faery," the woman murmured kindly, reaching to ruffle the child's hair. "Well, you two best be going. Oh, Sai - if you need to drop her off during your shifts at work, feel free." She smiled warmly to the two, as she moved to place the adoption papers into Faeyt's permanent file.

It was official. Thanks to Sai's position as groundskeeper, he didn't require a background check. The academy already did background checks on their employees, plus what helped was that he actually did go to the school. The new father sprouted the biggest grin. He was a daddy now! He had his own little daughter to take care of. He nodded in acknowledgement to the offer of watching over her while he was at work. Perfect, he could ensure that she was safe while he was out working on the campus. With all that said, he moved to take her hand once more. It was time for her to come home. He would leave alongside her and make sure he had all of her belongings before exiting the center.
