Khalid didn't have a lot of experience with children. It wouldn't have been inaccurate to say he didn't have any experience with children. He'd never had kids of his own, and he felt distinctly unqualified for the position of a dorm parent.

But the school didn't have quite enough people, and he was a responsible adult, and it wasn't like he had a lot of stuff filling up his time anyway.

They'd stuck him in the space of another dorm parent who was getting transferred, let him unpack his stuff, and then stuck him with a list of kids he was responsible for. Well, technically "kids", since the youngest was sixteen, which was more or less an adult.

It was going to be an easy job.

Khalid was in PJ pants and a T-shirt when he finally called the first dorm meeting, leaning up against the wall in the little lounge that everyone on the floor shared. Technically there was a second dorm parent sharing the floor with him, but they weren't there, meaning it was just him and his kids.

Euphemia didn't spend much time in the dorm. She didn't have much attachment to her room, only really using it for the small amount of sleep she required, before spending most of the day and a good chunk of the night out in the city itself. She still hadn't begun to think of the island as a new home, just another place she had to stay at. Nothing more, nothing less.

The concept of dorm parents had been explained to her when she had first been told about the dorm, but she hadn't fully understood what that meant yet. She'd never had anything resembling a parent or guardian, and as far as she knew she wouldn't need one. For now, she figured it was best to think of them as just another superior.

Naturally, she wasn't used to seeing the people in charge of her life dressed in their pyjama's and looking so casual, but she neglected to point that out.

"Excuse me," She announced her entrance, dressed in her usual robe, hands crossed in front of her as she steps in. "Might you be the new dorm parent assigned here?"

Minnie didn't really like the dorm parent system. Logically, she knew there had to be someone to supervise a bunch of kids, and an adult probably was a better choice than an older teenager, but it made her feel queasy. It was bad enough she had to see a therapist. After what had happened with her dad, the idea of a parent made her sick.

She went to this dorm meeting anyway. She wasn't about to have someone sent after her with false concerns for her well-being. But the girl was anything but casual as she looked around the lounge, arms held close and stiff, picking at a sleeve.

The pajama pants were the first thing Minnie noticed. It screamed too casual. She felt vaguely threatened, and made sure to keep her distance. It was not a good day for this. She didn't speak up yet, waiting to see what other people showed up. Still she managed a wave at everyone, an attempt to act like everything was okay. Hopefully this would be quick.

Yawning, Bel slowly made her way to the lounge in her baggy baby blue flannel pajama bottoms, blue fluffy bunny slippers and a tight white short top with a blue robe thrown over everything. She had, in fact, just woken up a little while ago, and was feeling particularly lazy. She hadn't bothered even to get dressed, instead just brushed her hair and threw it back in a ponytail, unconcerned with her appearance at the moment.

Besides, why bother? It was only a meeting with their dorm parent. And very likely, it was not anything too important, she had reasoned. Bel was, unlike others in the group, very used to having people trying to control her life, rules thrown at her as well as dos and don'ts. All of which generally led to her nodding in agreement, paying lip service and then basically doing whatever she wanted later.

Seeing two other girls already waiting in the lounge as soon as she entered, Bel then spotted a man, dressed similarly as her and guessed it was their dorm parent, unfazed by this Bel just stared briefly at him, nodded once and plopped herself down on the sofa and waited.

Agnes followed soon after Bel, not yawning or looking particularly tired since she didn't sleep in the first place. She was wearing her usual black tank top and jeans, since she had therapy today she had bothered to dress normally. This whole meeting was kind of meh for her in the first place, since she'd be of age soon enough and the dorm parent usually wasn't that involved with the kids under them if they were teenagers.

Agnes spared a bored glance at the guy with clothes like Bel was wearing, like he had just jumped outta bed and to this meeting. Well, that was fine, no one cared anyway, and if they did they needed to chill.
"Sup?"
Was all Agnes said as she sat down on the floor somewhere on the side of the room, pulling out her drumsticks. She started tapping them against the floor, waiting for this thing to start.

Girls. He'd known his hall was mostly women, but he had expected at least some guys. Instead, it was a veritable parade of teenage girls in all shapes and sizes, and half of them looked less than happy to be there. He stayed where he was, leaning against the wall as a few grabbed seats or hung around, and then gave a general wave.

Crap. Why was he doing this again? He felt distinctly out of his depth. He could handle kids in shitty situations, but teenagers? Teenagers that were his responsibility? That was going to be a whole other thing.

"So," he said. "I'm Khalid Zihrun." There wasn't much of an accent when he spoke, something unclear and nebulous, like someone who'd lived in dozens of places and muddled the accents all together. "I'll be your dorm parent here. You're basically all on the cusp of adulthood, so I don't expect too many issues with any of you. If you need something, give me a call. Standard dorm rules apply otherwise. This is my first time dorm parenting, so if you've got questions... let me know, I guess."

He paused, eyes flipping between each of them.

"I guess introductions?"

Theo figured he might as well make a proper introduction to the people in his dorm. So he opted to head out, late apparently. Everyone seemed to have gathered already. He looked around. As far as he could tell he was the only guy here aside from the dorm parent.

Oh this was weird, but he could deal with this. He just plopped down in a seat and looked around. Apparently they were doing introductions.

Minnie relaxed a little when other people came in. Surely he wouldn't do... anything... when other people were around. She knew he probably wouldn't hurt her anyway, but she still felt wary. Picking at her sleeve some more, she spoke up just to get it over with.

"My name's Minnie. I lives up in Canada. And I'm human, just human." She was so deep in denial that it didn't register as a lie, but still very emphatic for her own reassurance. "I'm new here... You're not after having these meetings a lot?" She spoke quickly, accent peeking through, then glanced over at Khalid with a slight frown when she asked her question. From her face, Minnie clearly hoped the answer was no.

Bel looked at Anges when she entered and nodded at her in acknowledgment. Then when Minnie spoke, she narrowed her gaze and smirked. She was way on the side of something not quite worthy. Hiding something ... definitely not human, Bel felt and heard nothing from the girl - she would have if the girl were only human. Deciding not to say anything, it wasn't any of her business, Bel raised her hand slightly.

"Bel, short for Beltane. Goddess of the Celtic spring festival," she said, "And what are the house rules? And what happens if we don't follow them?" she asked with some interest, wondering how much she might get away with.

Euphemia remained standing, back straight, face impassive as she silently observed the others who entered after her. Her immediate instinct is to remains suspicious of the other girls, they all seemed to have something going on behind the surface. However, she had been told she had no reason to fear her peers, even if they were unusual, so for the moment, she filed her little observations at the back of her mind for later.

Khalid, at least, didn't seem to have anything to hide, though his own apparent inexperience only served to reinforce her view of all this being unnecessary.

"I am Euphemia." She introduced herself, her lightly accented voice seemingly devoid of any feeling. "If I may ask, how much oversight can we expect from you?"
