The shift from living deep in the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by hills and snow as far as the eye could see, to making her home at Starlight Academy where there was so much diversity in the terrain was at first overwhelming for Arlette. She had spent nineteen years of her life in the same area. But of course she didn’t regret coming here, not at all. Not only did she get to make more friends than she did back home, but she also didn’t have to keep her powers a secret. Of course, she grew up only having to hide her powers half the time, at school. But here there was no need to hide!
But still, that didn’t mean Arlette was going to go up to every single person she saw and instantly befriend them. It took her a while to get used to people enough to call them “friends”. She would have to get comfortable with her surroundings before she could experience true friendship. But of course if someone came up to her first she wouldn’t turn them down. Well, unless she was doing something incredibly important (in her opinion).
Currently, Arlette was sitting in the shade of a fairly large tree, just taking in her surroundings. It was so peaceful, she regretted not bringing a book with her to read. Reading outside with the fresh air and sweet smells was always one of her favorite activities, even as she grew up and started to do other things. But whatever, she thought. This was just fine.
