Staring

Walking towards the lawn in front of the boarding school, the placid sky stared at a boy resting on a hill of grass, staring back. The stars lit in the sky like a blanket from the lack of lighting around the area, it wasn't near the school, but it wasn't too far from it. Some stars drifted, or at least it looked like they drifted away from their original position. The grandness of them only made Alastair smile as he ruffled his brown hair.

Ants started to crawl a little on his arm, and taking his glove off, the ants died, and the other ants stood far from that hand, not wanting to suffer the same fate. Alastair smirked, not evilly, but rather in a superior manner. The boy relaxed and continued to stare as the sound of the crickets harmonized in his ears and soothed his soul. There really wasn't much to soothe, but there was enough to make his eyes close.

The boy didn't feel cold, nor warm, but rather he felt a bit on mist come upon his face as the slight drizzle came about. Staring at rain from below always fascinated Alastair in a memorizing way, the way that the ran would seem to want to pelt his tender face, but they never did any real damage to him.

Kyako, having not been able to get to sleep, wandered around outside, hoping to tire herself out. Instead, she found herself just enjoying the shadowy surroundings and star gazing.

((Sorry. I really can't think of anything right now))

Opening his eyes from the slight lull he was receiving, Alastair opened his eyes to see Kyako. He just stared and then darted back to the sky, hoping to not have been caught staring. Alastair was new and she probably was someone that was incredibly popular, but had no one with her at the moment. He wouldn't want to intrude on her.

Slipping on the glove, he hoped that she wouldn't accidentally touch his hand. The last time that happened, things sorta turned ugly. The way that she shrieked at the grip of his hand and the color it turned when he let go. It was terrible. The woman there wouldn't want to suffer the same fate.

Kyako had seen the boy through the darkness and saw him staring at her. She quickly transfered herself to stand hear him. For a moment she didn't speak or even more. But then she smiled slightly and offered a hand for him to shake. "Hello. I'm Kyako. And you are?" She knew she was being quite forward and it would only serve her right if he was a mean grouch and didn't say anything to her.

In trepidation, the senior decided to lend his hand but mistook his right hand and clasped her hand. Noticing at last second, he pulled his hand away, hoping that she wouldn't cry, but then again, his hand was guarded by the glove. It must've looked a bit weird for someone to be giving their hand so...oddly.

"I'm so sorry!" He hadn't meant for the pun, but rather than shifting and continuing the whole shy guy thing he tried to be a bit more of a conversationalist. "I..I'm Alastair. I'm sorry if I hurt your hand. It's my, uh, 'gift.' My hand is unbearably hot, or so I've heard from others." Alastair looked down towards the grass to see a pile of ants dead on the grass without the help of others to carry them home.

He sighed and hoped that never happened to anyone. "I-I'm just lookin' at the stars. I warmed a seat up for you." He smiled, having thought of that himself. Alastair usually isn't the funny kinda guy, or was he?

As the heat of his hand came near her, Kyako began to frown. As their hands touched--or rather, hand to glove--she bit her lip to keep from gasping in pain. The burns were not as bad as they could have been, for which she was glad he had a glove on(she was guessing that was why he wore it).

Looking at her hand, Kyako saw it was a bright pink, but didn't comment on it. Instead she just raised it closer to her face and blew on it gently, trying to cool off the burning sensation.

"I..I'm Alastair. I'm sorry if I hurt your hand. It's my, uh, 'gift.' My hand is unbearably hot, or so I've heard from others."

Kyako smiled softly up at him. "Nice to meet you, Alastair. And it's...fine." With her free hand she pushed back a strand of her blonde/streaked burgundy hair behind her ear.

I warmed a seat up for you."

With an amused look, she said, "Let me guess. With your hand?"

Thinking quickly he took the glove off and patted the ground near him, and placing it back on, the teen smiled. "Uh..um...yeah. I'm sorry again for burning you. At least you didn't touch my bare hand. It's um...I think 180 degrees according to the doctor. Something like that. I don't know. It's why I'm here. To control this power." Alastair was extremely nervous around people, let alone women. It's not that he wanted a girl, but rather that he just felt that he didn't know what they would think. They were unpredictable.

Alastair's eyes stared at the stars and he placed his hands on the back of his head. He sighed once before speaking again. The rain continued to drizzle down on him. "So do you like to come out on rainy...or drizzly days?" He tried to start conversation, but knew that he sucked at the whole thing.

Kyako sat down next to him and nodded. "I can see why." Unable to control her curiosity, she asked, "With your hand so hot, can you cook your own meals?"

Quirking her mouth to the side in a smile, she shook her head. "Not really. Though the coolness of it feels good against my skin. I just couldn't get to sleep. I don't know why." Tilting her head to one side, she asked him the same question.

He smiled at all the questions, Wow, is it actually possible for me to start the conversation? Alastair could only guess so as a raindrop went straight into his eye. "CRAP!!!" Rubbing his right hand on his eye he flinched, "OWWW!" Rubbing it with his left hand, Alastair shook it off and merely thought, Wow...KLUTZ!!

Gulping, he looked to her and now he saw that the rain really did feel good against him. "I rarely burn myself, it's just in sensitive places, like my eyes and ears. As for cooking my meals, I can't my hand isn't hot enough, though I can defrost pretty well." He smiled and started to laugh, producing a bit of a snort. HOLY COW!!! Why am I snorting?!?! Not now!

"I love staring at the stars, but looking up at the rain is...usually a plus. It's just all so great...so beautiful to look up. The stars stare back only to wink a couple times and show me the beauty of this earth. It's the most beautiful blanket I've seen."

As he rubbed his eye, Kyako boldly took his hand away and pressed her middle and index finger against his eyelid. "My skin is probably cooler than yours, so it'll sooth better." After a minute she took her hand away, wondering why she had done that. Instead of looking at him after this she just stared at the sky.

She laughed at his joke, wishing she had the power to defrost things. It would be way easier than waiting for the microwave to do it. Kyako agreed with him about the stars. They were magnificent things. They looked so tiny only beause they were thousands to millions of miles away, bt in fact they were quite large. It was amazing how bright they shone too.
