Friday.

It was a day that almost everyone looked forward to. Everyone looked forward to the time off from school, finally being able to be with their families, playing the games that they enjoyed, and just being plain away from the stress of having to remember every particular detail of their education. It is also this time of the week where the school was at its emptiest. The silence was where Grace found home, and it was here in this infirmary where she decided to chronicle the last few hours of her day so far. A pen and her diary in hand, she wrote down a detailed account of her life.

A detailed account included the moment that a fair lady was brought into the room. Blonde hair and hints of emerald eyes behind soft eyelids, the teenager was certainly cute as cute goes. Clothing suggested a masculine nature, however. Which made the older woman wonder lightly about herself; she wouldn’t call herself feminine or masculine. She was herself.

She gazed at the wall clock, it was a quarter past five, and certainly the Academy doors are probably going to close and it was going to be curfew in a couple of hours in certain dormitories. The young woman had been asleep for a while. The people who brought her in never really told her why she passed out.

Grace glaced at the patient’s bed and adjusted her glasses before a sigh left her lips. Can’t go home with a patient still in the hospital bed; she supposed it was nice to have a little R&R time before going home. She closed her diary, pocketing the small book into her coat before standing up and opening the blinds, allowing the orange light of the sunset reach the darkening room.

It was one of those moments where you’d think of some nostalgic moment in your life.

If you could remember anything, anyways.

Hearing some light shifting, the Doctor swiveled her chair to face the sleeping student, smiling lightly. “Good morning.” She greeted, adjusting her glasses. “… or Good evening, I suppose. Do you know where you are?”

Briallen had been feeling so good that day up until she passed out. She had actually gone a few days without a major sensory overload—which was amazing! She really thought she was improving! But, alas, she was hardly as improved as she wished she was. She had been heading back toward her dorm to change from her boyish garments to her spandex sportswear when the excruciating pain suddenly hit her. When she fell into the dirt, students were quick to notice and took her right to the infirmary.

As she slowly regained consciousness, she felt some pain on her arms and the left side of her face, which had been scratched up from the fall. Her nice black vest and pants had also gotten dirty.

Briallen shifted a little, and her eyes fluttered open. Her vision was a little blurry, but she could see the Doctor in front of her fairly well. Red hair, bright blue eyes, glasses, lab coat…

Oh no. She’s hot Briallen thought to herself in her semi-conscious state.

Briallen closed her eyes again, and then opened them with a squint. She could faintly see the orange sky outside. Sunset? How long was she out? She let out a groan and rubbed at her eyes. Another wasted day because of her damn powers. She looked at the Doctor again. She had been to the infirmary before, but she was sure she had never met this Doctor before. She definitely would have noticed her before if she had. Briallen liked auburn hair…

“Um…yeah…” Briallen said when the Doctor asked if she knew where she was. However, it took Briallen a moment to actually think of it. She was at…not home…not her old school…oh, right. The Academy.

“I’m at Starlight Academy,” she finally said.

“Indeed.” The Doctor answered back, her blue eyes glowing against the dusk light. “It’s nice to see you coherent. Hopefully you’re feeling okay.” For the most part, she knew that many women, men and children in this academy are gifted in one way or another. The staff were supposedly full of them; including herself. Would she consider her skill a power? Not really; many autistic children manifested similar symptoms as she did.

So it was probably prudent to assume that whatever caused her fainting can either be due to a medical condition or a supernatural nature. Either were things that she was admittedly not willing to cross out the list yet; scientific reasoning must be applied. Shifting her glasses again, the auburn-haired doctor stood up and turned the dimmer lights on. “Hope this doesn’t blind you too much. Don’t force yourself to get up so soon. You might pass out again.”

Reaching for the drawers, the lady took out a few bags of tea, an electric kettle, and a few other complementary condiments, setting it on her desk. “Would you like some tea?” She looked at the blonde teenager as she took the kettle to the sink, filling it with water. “Some sugar to jumpstart your body might be good for you before you go off your merry way. I have some sweets somewhere here if you want some as well.”

She set the kettle down and went to turn the lights on fully. Hopefully, both their eyes would have adjusted to the light. “By the way, If you are wondering.” She looked at the patient, “My name is Doctor Grace Laurie.”

She smiled. “You don’t have to tell me your name. I promise you that I will often forget within the next twenty-four hours.” Grace looked at the woman, “Hopefully you haven’t forgotten any particular hunch that might have led to your fainting?”

Briallen pressed a finger into her left temple. These stupid, useless powers were going to drive her insane someday. She was sure of it. “I’ve got a killer migraine, but that’s typical. I think I’m fine otherwise.”

She rolled onto her right side, watching the doctor as she started to massage at her temple. “It’s fine. Luckily I tend to bounce back pretty quickly.” Her left hand then travelled down to her face, where she could feel the scratches on her cheek from when she fell. Since she was so into sports, getting all scratched up was hardly anything new. She did wonder what her face looked like at the moment, though.

She pulled her hand away when Grace asked her if she wanted some tea. “Oh, yeah, sure. Sounds good.” It wasn’t until Grace mentioned the tea and sweets that Briallen realized she was really thirsty, and hungry too. She even felt a hint of that sick feeling that low blood sugar could cause. Yikes, she must have been out for a while if she felt like that. She definitely needed to get something in her system.

When the lights came on, Briallen closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them in thin slits to let them adjust to the new light. “Nice to meet you, Doctor Laurie. My name is Briallen—in the event you do remember,” she replied with a small grin--because, hey, she would like the attractive nurse to remember her; especially if she was going to be in the infirmary often.

Then Grace asked her about her condition, and the smirk was gone. “Oh…yeah…” Briallen murmured as she rolled back onto her back and stared up at the ceiling. “It’s my powers. I have heightened senses, but they’re so heightened that I just get severe sensory overload. I still have no control over it at all.”

Briallen ran a hand through her hair. “Sooo yeah, I’ll be around here a lot, I’m sure.”

Tea was certainly something to be had then. Of course, the incident certainly would have to do with fainting if sensory overload was the case. That was one of the many things that would prove a challenge to actually prevent happening depending on how powerful the sensations presented were. The brain can only take so much abuse; and it was certainly not designed for special powers like the ones presented by most of the population in this island.

Tucking her short reddish brunette hair behind her ear, the doctor set the now-filled kettle aside, waiting for it to come to a boil. “That explains it.” She said, bringing the tea bags and other condiments to the table at the woman’s bedside. “Surely though, you must have been trying some method of containing or controlling your powers, yes?” The doctor gave her a small smile before walking off into a door by the right, where the lady would probably hear some light shuffling and other noises as the Doctor made her attempt at reaching something from behind refrigerator shelves.

“Do you enjoy mochi? Custard pudding?” The lady inquired, searching the cold shelf for something tasty. This was most certainly a good opportunity or perhaps even an excuse to indulge in the occasional sucrose-filled treat. The brain works on a certain level of glucose, so hopefully a nice blend of tea and sweet-filled desserts would help the lady in feeling well enough to leave.

Then maybe she could go home.

“Also,” She began, “It is rather late; do you feel like you can make it home on your own or would you like me to take you home? I can drive, if I must.”

(SORRY SHORT POST BECAUSE I SUCK ;-;)

“Well, yeah, I’ve been learning some stuff in the powers classes,” Briallen replied, tilting her head to glance back at the nurse. “They’ve actually been happening less frequently, which is great. But when it does happen, it goes by so quick that I can’t get control of it. It’s so frustrating,” she said with a sigh. Briallen was trying her best to be patient with the training, but damn it, she wanted control of her powers now.

Briallen blinked at the mention of ‘mochi’ and ‘custard pudding’. “I don’t even know what those are…” she admitted with an embarrassed grin. “But, hey, I’m adventurous so bring them on.” Plus she was starving and about willing to eat anything at that particular moment. Oh god, she just needed to get her damn blood sugar back up.

Slowly, she shifted herself until she could sit up. For a brief second, she felt like she was going to black out again and shut her eyes tightly—but it quickly passed.

“I’ll probably be fine to go on my own soon enough,” Briallen replied with a shrug, ignoring that brief moment of darkness she experienced. “I bounce back pretty quickly. Just get some food in me and I should be good to go.”

(lol sorry also short ;~; )
