Appearance Description: Tourmaline is a small child who inherited her purple hair from her father and her mother's bright green eyes. Something smaller than a few feet tall, she wears dresses, and has a huge fascination with riding hood cloaks and witch hats.
She has rather taken an interest in dressing up like her mother and takes the opportunity to dress up when permitted.
Personality Description: Tourmaline is a playful toddler that holds a rather interesting mix of both her parents' dispositions. On one hand, she is a rather vain child like her mother; on the other, holds the curiosity of her father.
Being raised in a science-oriented family, the child naturally became curious on the sciences and can be considered particularly smart for a child her age. She enjoys reading and often cajoles her parents into reading books for her - usually science books several grades above her own.
Despite all this though, she is kind of shy around people who she hasn't spent much time around. She will often stay quiet around strangers, preferring to be within close proximity of either parent for the first hour of meeting. Once she does warm up though, expect to be asked a lot of questions — some of which may be surprising to be asked by a child.
The quiet kid that she is, she spends most of her time with her pet cat and penguin — both of which were result of her rather bizzare ability. Sometimes, she seems to talk to people that cannot be seen — often those of another existence.
Powers:
Soul Manipulation - Tourmaline possesses a rather intricate mix of her parents' powers, resulting in the ability to manipulate the soul. So far, her ability has only been known to transfer souls of the living to non-living objects on contact. While minimal experimentation has gotten the child far in terms of transporting the souls of small animals to inanimate objects, she has yet to discover how to unbind them. Her ability to move souls across bodies is fairly limited with her level of skill, and she has only been successful in doing so with animals — namely a cat that she binded into the Pusheen doll (which she has yet to name properly) that her mother gave her on her first birthday, and the penguin doll named "Penga" that her father gave her during a pet to the zoo.
... both contain a soul of a cat and a penguin that had fallen victim to her antics.
It is possible that on further discovery and exploration with age, that she will discover the rest of her abilities.
Soul Sense - The user can see and even interact with the souls of other beings including the souls of the living and those of the dead. Her sight can identify those who are living, and those who are dying (though admittedly she hasn't been able to realize the difference, just sees their souls to be more blurred than the others). Of course, this only matters towards beings that show themselves to her willingly; she cannot see those who refuse to be seen, as she has not developed enough skill and will to force her abiltiies on their existence.
Empathic Echoes -
As a consiquence of the ability mentioned prior, Tourmaline has developed an ability to sense the emotional residue of places, people and items. There are some places and beings e.g spirits or ghosts, that have constant emotional residue due to major events happening in that location (war, death, historical moments etc.). Tourmaline is capable of emotional imprints and re-experience those residual emotions and images as if they were happening in that moment and is often the cause of her spacing out and random fear of specific people and places.
Sometimes, she would be able to sense the memories of others from simply touching them, which is a primary cause of her shyness.
Biography: Tourmaline was born a healthy baby girl to Emeraude and Aternity Awren a few years ago. She had always been a peculiar child, who always stared into space and babbled at things and cried after touching specific old objects. It was through the wisdom of her grandmother Aurora that a limited description of her latent abilities had been made known.
This being a realization to their child's abiltities, Aternity and Emeraude had devoted a lot of time into raising Tourmaline in an environment that allows her powers to develop naturally in a controlled environment. It wasn't easy.
