"Interesting," Cabel said.

If he'd noticed they'd walked past the noodle place and where now turning around to go back, he had not said anything. Truthfully, Cabel was too engrossed with the conversation to be paying much attention to his surroundings. If he was, he would have been distracted by the small grey cat that darted by and almost tripped him.

He was a bit disappointed that she wouldn't tell him where they got the blood of the innocent from, but also strangely relieved. He didn't like to think about hot unicorn babes killing kittens.

"I actually study business management and sales," Cabel confessed. "I want to move back to the states after I graduate, and I sort of needed a degree that would transfer."

He shrugged and realized that didn't quite explain what he was doing in that section, so he decided to elaborate a little without explaining too much. Though he liked to talk, Cabel was not fond of talking about himself all that often.

"It's a hobby of mine," he said, and then frowned, because it is not specific enough. "And I am still trying to find information on that Polish flower. That's why I came there originally, that and to find out if anything would soothe the heartburn Phoenix feathers give when you add them to things."

Things and stuff. Very specific.

He shrugged and then stopped and said, "Hey! Isn't that the noodle place across the street? AND IS THAT A KITTY CAT?"

The grey cat meowed and ran past them again and Cabel gushed.

"Do you like cats, Aeon?"

She smiled as the conversation shifted a little to something they could talk about with more ease. Aeon personally didn't know what she would be doing after she graduated, but hanging around the island, growing plants and making sure the alchemy labs are fully stocked didn't sound like too much of a bad plan.

Though deep down she had to admit to herself that she would have liked to travel a bit more. see more of the world and what everyone in ever place had to offer. Truth be told she'd spent so much of her life on islands that she wasn't sure how to adjust to life in a place where she couldn't see sea from basically everywhere.

"I love cats," she confessed. "I have this really cute cat sweater that I wear sometimes when its cold. Its got big eyes and pointy ears...."

Her eyes followed the cat that bolted past them. She was internally squealing. "My apartment doesn't allow pets though."

They had made it to the noodle house. The woman let them to a small table with two chairs.

If Aeon was internally squealing, Cabel was externally squealing when the cat ran by. Even though it may have seemed impossible given his already high level of caffination, the cat seemed to have made him more hyper.

He answered her as the woman sat them at the small table and Cabel gave a nod of appreciation. The noodle house was cute, cozy, and smelled delicious. H e felt his stomach growl.

"I love cats, too," he said. He was picturing her in her cat sweater, and for some reason that made his face flush pink. Cabel put a napkin over his lap.

He hesitated, and then Cabel had a confession for her.

"I turned people into cats once. By accident," he said. "It was terribly hard to reverse. Luckily, they just turned back on their own, but you have no idea how terrifying it is to wake up with a voicemail saying Oh no Cabel my room mate turned into a cat. It was adorable. And horrible....adorhibble."

Aeon settled into her seat, making herself comfortable and putting her bag somewhere on the table out of the way of everything. Didn't want it getting in the way of their eating. That would be unfortunate. Thinking about it, as she took a look at the menu, she hadn't eaten anything all day. No wonder her stomach was protesting her so badly right now.

She peered at him over her menu.

"You.... turned people into cats?" The concept of the entire island becoming a hoard of cats was just.... too cute a concept. All of the middle schoolers and younger would become little kittens and everyone else would be full grown cats with fluffy coats and sleek designs and weird cat based powers.... for once it seemed like she too was getting giddy at the idea of cats.

"Was it fun? Do you know? I feel like being a cat would be pretty rad. Aside from the furballs I suppose."

Cabel nodded.

"Yep. There was almost ten cats. It was very stressful, but also sort of exciting," he said. He tried to think about what the cats had been like so he said, "Mostly they just slept a lot. You never think about how much a cat sleeps until you're trying to get information from people and they just...sleep. I mean, since it was supposed to be sleeping pills, this was a good thing, but the cat-part was the bad part."

He glanced down at his menu and flipped through one page, then back again, too quickly. His eyes darted across it but it was clear that Cabel was reading without actually understanding what he was looking at. His foot tapped off the floor as though some part of him always had to be moving or he'd simply die.

"What do you recommend?" he asked.

"How does one get information from cats...." she mused aloud. She remembered the one time she'd been walking around Manta Carlos having never been there before and saw a cat for the first time. She remembered trying to converse with it, thinking it has been a citizen that could tell her where she was supposed to be going.

She didn't realize until much later the error of her thinking.

Listening to him jitter, Aeon wondered if he was having some kind of nervous episode. Aeon was familiar with more than her fair share of people who dealt with being nervous by compulsively jittering body parts around.

When asked what the unicorn would recommend, though, she stumbled.

"W-well, I've only had their vegetarian and vegan options.... The noodles at the top of page three are my favorite... but if you want something with ham or whatever, you'd have to ask the server......"

"How does one get information from cats...."

"With yarn," Cabel said. "And pills. It's amazing what will happen if you mix oxycontin and griffin blood."

He'd already said too much, but Cabel didn't seem to notice. He was still bouncing his foot and flipping thorugh page after page. When she told him to look at the top of page three, Cabel's eyes scanned rapid fire across the page and then he nodded.

"I will try it," Cabel said. "Without meat, I mean. If you don't like it, I will try not to like it."

When the waitress returned, Cabel said, "I'll have what she's having, but I would also like a cup of chai, please."

Chai at least he knew about.

He was leg was still twitching and now his left hand was shaking across the table.

"So tell me everything," Cabel said. "Tell me about your life. Tell me about cats. Tell be about how your life would be different if you had a cat in it."

Aeon was listening to everything Cabel said, so his occasional comments about mixing things together didn't slip by her. Oxycontin, she knew like several other people did, was a pain killer... and he didn't seem to be in enough pain to warrant taking oxycontin, and whatever he needed to take Oxycontin for she was pretty sure adding griffin's blood and giving it to someone else would somehow make that a lot worse.

She understood that Cabel was probably not exactly what you would call on the up and up. There was a strange shadiness to his comments that made her lean back and squint at him internally.

The Waitress took her order and...

"I was.... born on an island of unicorns, I guess. Spent a lot of time with my dad... then I just came here when i discovered I had powers. Powers unrelated to being a unicorn I mean."

The unicorn tapped the table. "Did you know that there are some cats that have a second set of ears behind their first set of ears? They're so cute. If I had a cat i would just. I would be lying on my floor with my cat right now probably. No offense. Just. Cats."

Cabel nodded at all of this. He was leaned back in his chair with his arms dangling over the back like he was some sort of gaudy bird displaying his plumage for her.

In reality, he was just getting comfortable.

"What's the land of the unicorns like?" he asked. He could not disguise the child-like excitement that creeped into his voice. He was trying not to tell her what he'd hoped it would be like. he was trying not to ask if she always looked like a person, or if she looked like a horse sometimes, or if he could touch her horn.

He blinked at her description of duel-eared cats, and now Cabel leaned forward so all four legs of the chair were back on the ground.

"Shut up," he said. "They do not. That is so cool, and too cute to imagine. what are they called? do they have a name"

he was itching to pull out his phone and google this shit right now, but he wanted to give her all his attention.

In all honestly, Cabel would probably be doing the same if he were able to.

"No offense taken, I understand completely," he said. "I have a kid, sort of, though, and I don't know if I can leave him home alone with a cat. He has certain needs and I'm afraid he might...well..."

Cabel was afraid lemonsqueeze would try to eat the cat.

Bringing up a drug baby on the first date was probably a bad idea.

he beamed suddenly, thinking of this as a date.

"How did you discover you had cool extra powers?"

"What's it like?" Having grown up there, she found that it was distinctly hard to figure out how to explain it to someone who had never been there. When she remembered it even, it was all tinted with the haze of normalcy. But she supposed she could just describe it faithfully as she remembered it, and try to keep her gray ideas of normalcy under control. "Well, it's an island. Like this one. Only smaller, I think."

She pursed her lips in thought. "It was covered in forests. there were a lot of trees. And a lot of unicorns, I guess. There were also fairies? Like, they were naked and had wings? Looked kinda like people except--" She put her index finger and thumb close together to communicate their smallness.

"And flowers. I haven't managed to find them in any books yet. I guess they were special to the island."

Aeon smiled, happy to get the conversation topic off of herself. "Yeah, it's true! I don't know if they have a special name or anything--I know the most famous one is named Yoda though."

She was practically squealing at the idea in her seat. She was making a scene. Once Aeon registered this she cleared her throat and curled towards the table. He hands were see-through.

"You have a--?" before the question could get all the way out, the other question came.

"I was hiding," she explained. "My dad wanted me to grow up a normal unicorn and never leave the island and meet a nice stallion to eat grass next to and nuzzle innocently, but then I turned out to have weird...." The unicorn flailed her hands lightly in demonstration. "Whatever this is powers and he got mad."
