Catalina took another sip of her coffee as she watched Yuki relax. As he mentioned his mother, she couldn't help but raise her brow ever-so-slightly. This young man should have his parents home with him. They shouldn't be letting him live by himself. A family should stick together if they have the chance and the fact that they weren't made Catalina feel somewhat stick to her stomach. It reminded her of times back in Halcyon when she had another of Gabriel's friends in her life because of unfortunate parenting.

"...Well, I am curious about something." She said finally. Catalina rose from her seat and moved toward the fridge and pulled it open. "I'm going to make breakfast but I need to know if there's anything you would prefer or would like to avoid. I was thinking eggs, bacon, toast, and some hash browns! Pretty simple but I can always prepare something else if you'd prefer."

"I would, however, like to hear something. Tell me about you and Gabriel. He tends to be quiet and reserved most of the time, so seeing you two messing around was a pleasant surprise. Is he always so carefree when he's out and about?"

"Ah. Well..." He took a moment to consider this. Was there anything he really didn't like? Anything he hated? There wasn't anything that came to mind. He didn't hate fruit skins anymore, and he had learned to stomach overly sweet food (he even liked a bunch of stuff like ice cream and chocolate - even if the American-style stuff he got here was WAY too sweet sometimes. Even for the adjusted Japanese-Brit.) "I'm not really that fussy. Hash browns and all those things sound great. Are they a thing here or are you being nice because I'm British?" He laughed.

"About Gabe...hmm. I thought he was always like that. Kind of goofy, very friendly and easy to warm up to. Is he not like that around here?" The boy was surprised to hear it - then again he supposed when they'd first met, Yuki had reached out to him and not the other way around. And then he'd been awkward. Then they'd met again, and Yuki had somehow ended up pouring everything out to Gabe. If he looked back on things, his partnership with Gabe had been very much a special case, most likely. But when Gabe was around Yuki he was sociable to other people too. Wasn't he just an outgoing person? "I was under the assumption that he was like that all the time." He rubbed a finger on his chin, eyes drifting up in thought.

She laughed. "No, no. It's a simple breakfast that has something for just about anyone. And being nice is a normal thing to do, silly." Catalina began to pull out ingredients left and right, setting them on the counter. She moved through the kitchen as if it were second nature, continuing the conversation as she began to crack the eggs into a bowl. Scrambled eggs were easy and pretty quick to cook if done right and she'd definitely make sure Gabriel was awake by the time everything was set up and ready.

Catalina kept her face from Yuki, her normally cheery disposition marred with a heavy frown. "Well, not exactly. He's become a bit more open since his trip out into the 'narrow reality', as a lot of people call it. But before he left and even back in Halcyon..." She let out a small sigh but kept cooking without any missteps. "Gabriel was... withdrawn. He had his moments of silliness, sure, but he carried everything inside. He had one real friend at the time who was like a brother more than anything. Diego was practically my second son! But, I'm getting off-track. Gabriel worked very hard, always stepped in to help however he could. It actually let him skip a grade back in middle school with how hard he pushed himself."

"But when it came to people, he liked to keep walls up. You're the first person since we've arrived that I've gotten to see him act like an actual teenager."
She laughed again as she began to cook the bacon on the stove top. "Sorry, I'm probably saying too much and he'll get all huffy. But take good care of him, Yuki. He really does like you." She turned to face Yuki with a faint smile, one that just exuded motherly energy, pure warmth, and compassion.

"Now can do me a favor, dear? Go wake up that lazy boy of mine so we can get you two fed." Catalina giggled, turning back to finish the cooking.

Meanwhile, back in his room, Gabe finally stirred from sleep with a stifled yawn. He honestly couldn't remember the last time he had slept as well as he did. He had been so warm and comfortable... what had been so different? He stood up as he noticed Yuki's bag in the corner. He remembered with a small smile. The two had shared a bed. His cheeks went pink for a moment as his gaze shifted to his desk where an unfamiliar book lay open. He didn't remember seeing anything like this on his shelf. Gabe leaned over and glanced at the unfamiliar writing.

"Dear Future Yuki, I have a confession to make. I told Gabe I loved hi-" He read to himself quietly before looking up at the ceiling with his face feeling hot. That was Yuki's journal. He had read Yuki's personal journal and found out that Yuki had said he loved him. Okay, that was... information to know. Gabe took a few deep breaths, trying to focus. Oh man, that was a lot. But... did he feel the same? Was it too soon? With a small groan of frustration, he shuffled his way to the bathroom and began to wash his face. He could clear his thoughts and make it through breakfast and however long until Yuki left before freaking out, right?

Yuki smiled back. He thought he liked Catalina. She was kind, and genuine, and friendly. And by the way she was talking and moving around the room so naturally, she seemed like she was used to being caring. Kind of like Mahalia. In fact they were similar in some ways. Except Mahalia was taller than Yuki, not shorter. And Mahalia spoke Filipino. Not Spanish. But they were similar enough. He could feel Catalina's love for Gabe basically flowing out of her every move. Her tone of voice, her subtle tells, the way she teased him and protected him simultaneously. Maybe she was trustworthy. Not enough for Yuki to let his walls down yet, but enough for him to consider it. It had been useful to hear more about Diego. Gabe basically never talked about himself or his past apart from things in the present.

His face flushed at the whole 'he does like you' bit. A smile grew across his face. If only Catalina knew. "Sure," he said as he got up, headed towards Gabe's room to instead hear the sounds of splashing water from the bathroom. Huh. He knocked on the door. "Gabe? Breakfast will be ready soon. Your mum wanted you awake, but I guess you already are." He chuckled.

Gabe flinched at the knocking and the voice. Oh, the two were up already? Oh no, what did they talk about? What did his mom tell Yuki while he was passed out asleep?! He quickly finished washing his face and opened the door to see Yuki still standing there with a smile on his face. It only confirmed his suspicions that his mother had been telling embarrassing stories or something equally horrible. Maybe she had broken out the baby pictures!?

"...Good morning, Yuki." He says quietly, looking into the lavender eyes of his partner. Who is in love with him. Gabe felt his cheeks warm up again and he mentally cursed. He hated hiding parts of himself but he wasn't ready to deal with admitting he knew how Yuki fell about him. He pulled Yuki into a quick hug before letting go and starting to make his way toward the kitchen. "Morning, mom." He said with a tired way, to which Catalina began to chastise him in Spanish for sleeping in. He let out a small laugh and sigh before briefly arguing with his mom and finally taking a seat at the table.

Yuki watched Gabe happily as his partner exited from the bathroom, only to have his body enveloped in more fluffy warmth and smile grow even wider. "Morning, Gabe." He muttered, returning the embrace and not even noticing the flush of Gabe's cheeks as he buried his face in Gabe's nightclothes. They smelt human - a bit of sweat and the scent of fresh sheets mixed in with the regular floral smell. The hug was over before long though and the almost Cheshire cat-like smile returned to normalcy as they sat down and got through breakfast with some more banter - no stories this time, sadly. Just talk of the day's plans. Yuki enjoyed the meal, failed once more to help clean up the breakfast remains and took one of Gabe's books to look at before leaving not long after, not wanting to overstay his welcome.

He already wanted to see Gabe again. But it was alright. He'd see him tomorrow at school, for sure.
