Sleepless Nights

Tending to the people was difficult work, especially when they took advantage of having a nurse and purposefully wet the bed or did other such naughty things. The whiners overpowered the meek ones, and Ania felt more than guilty when she kept getting interrupted by the bolder. Eventually, she learned to be firm when dealing with them in order. Ania was not used to having to deal with so many people at once, and had a heavy feeling of anxiety hovering over her.

After bringing small bowls of soup to the few people that asked, Ania flopped down in her chair. She had managed to make a small group of friends, and they gave her sympathetic smiles. Slipping away from the people in a moment of respite, Ania poured herself another mug of tea. After taking a second to look around, she dumped a large dosage of sugar into the liquid, feeling a bit guilty for consuming so much sugar. Hopefully this would give her a bit more energy to deal with people and make the sleepiness leave. Hiding out in the peaceful quiet of the kitchen area, Ania's anxiety finally released it's grip. Confident once more, she returned to sit with her little flock.

<div align=center>William groaned softly, he hated waking up, if he could sleep forever he would have gladly done so. He woke up confused and wondering where he was, he'd completely forgotten that he was meant to be helping out with the sick. It took him a couple of minutes to recollect himself, he sat upright, a hand flew to his head, ow. His head was aching and he felt sniffly. If I get sick I'm going to cry. He told himself, glancing around the room to see wherever Ania was, he hoped she had been alright while he'd been sleeping. He struggled to his feet and lifted a hand to flatten his hair, it was mussed and tangled, he hadn't seen a hair brush anywhere, though.

"Ania?" He called, softly, stifling a yawn. He'd wake up soon enough, at least, he hoped he would, he hated feeling groggy. William was sharp at the best of times, and so feeling slow and fluffy was strange and unnatural to him, this sudden burst of what felt like a cold didn't really help either, he'd drink some tea and maybe feel better, he'd rather have caught a cold than be tired. He soon found his little friend, it looked like she had bonded with a few of the patients, at least. "I'm sorry... I slept longer than I thought I would..."</div>

Jumping when she heard a voice behind her, she turned to see William awake and active. Standing to greet him properly, Ania smiled a bit at his tousled appearance. "It's fine! You probably needed it a lot after all that." He did mention that healing took a lot out of him, poor thing. Patting his arm in understanding, Ania tried her best to look as awake as possible. "Ah, you should go get more tea! I had some earlier, that helped quite a bit. "

A couple of the people she was talking to had fallen asleep by now, and she felt satisfied that they were okay. "Ah, I think I'm going to go take a nap now, though, if you don't mind. Some of those patients are irritating." She said the last word in a half-whisper, but meant every syllable.

<div align=center>Bill supposed she was right, it probably wouldn't have done him any good if he'd overworked himself. More tea was a good idea, it would wake him up a little and then perhaps he could take her place in entertaining the patients for a little while. She'd kept everything tidy, and put things away, he noted, which he rather liked. Ania had made the area look clean and that made the boy happy. "Thank you for tidying!" He thought she deserved a nap, they'd been working for a long time, he wondered what the time was, it had started raining since he'd arrived though, he could hear it on the roof.

He laughed softly at her description of them, William was too soft to ever deny someone of something, he didn't like disappointing people, and was a little bit of a pushover if he was really honest with himself. He had decided to avoid letting everyone know that, it'd probably make his job much much harder if he showed any sign of weakness, they'll prey on me. He frowned, he'd be okay for a while, and noted to only wake her if there was an emergency, he hoped nothing like that would happen, though.</div>

Seeing William happy about the organisation, Ania felt a bit relieved. She didn't know if she had put things in their proper order, and had guessed quite a bit. Hopefully she didn't mess things up too horribly, though. Smothering a yawn behind her hand, Ania propped herself up against a wall and listened to the faint sounds of water and breathing. "You'll be okay, won't you? I'll try to sleep quickly. It shouldn't be too hard to wake me if something happens." She had a bad habit of smacking at whatever tried to wake her, but she hoped that clarity of mind would bless her and she wouldn't attack anyone if they tried to get her.

Wandering over to the bed that William had previously occupied, she buried under the still-warm blankets, moving around a bit until she created a bit of a burrow for herself. She liked to be warm, and the spot he had been in was plenty warm.

<div align=center>William nodded, "I'll be okay!" He promised, at least he thought he would be. He thought he might be just a little bit too nervous to actually talk to anyone, but he could tend to them if needs be. If he ended up freaking out he'd probably be able to find something to calm himself down, he thought he might have some rescue remedy in his coat pocket, he usually carried it around just in case of situations like this. He promised to wake her if anything happened that he desperately needed her for, there seemed to be an air of calm in the room of current, Bill hoped it would stay that way.

William liked the warmth as much as she did, and could probably be compared to some kind of reptile in that manner, or maybe a very young puppy. He could feel eyes on him, and that made him feel coy. He didn't much like people staring at him, it made him feel awfully self conscious, and he didn't really like that. "Sleep well." He chirped, beaming at the girl and shuffling off to pour himself another mug of tea, that would no doubt make him feel better.</div>

Well, as long as he thought he'd be okay. She tried to thank him, but all that came out was an agreeable mumbling. Giving up, she curled up tighter, nuzzling deeper into the warmth, closing her eyes and enjoying the faint heat. She felt very catlike, and wished there was a bit of sun shining down on her. The blanket was nice, but it wasn't as efficient at holding body heat as her blanket at home.

The patients had worn her out and stolen all her energy. They were needy and knew that it was hard to resist a sick person. Tucking her arms and legs in closer, Ania quieted her breathing and listened to the sound of her partner and the patients. Eventually, the constant sound blurred into a white noise, and she soon fell asleep.
