Rae hugged him back, afraid to let go lest he disappear. She swallowed down a lump in her throat and felt bad that tears were soaking the front of his shirt. "I-I'm sorry...." She whispered.

"You have nothing to apologize for.. you didn't do anything wrong."

What is this I feel, Corona? It's like empathy.. but it almost hurts..
Your personality, in due time, will take after mine. That is why you feel so strange sometimes.
Wait.. you mean my personality will become angelic in nature?
Of course. Being in your body has a very large affect on your mind and body, and greatly influences how it develops. That's why you started becoming so sensitive over the last few years. Seeing people in such sorrow actually physically hurts you, such that you want to make it your top priority to comfort them. That is your role.
You mean.. her crying is what makes me feel such pain? And it will only get worse as time goes on?
Yes. You will become very sensitive to other people's feelings, and will be able to tell accurately how they feel just by being near them, even if they aren't showing it. Likewise, if they are incredibly happy, you will feel the same way. That is how the mind of a Guardian works. In due time, you will understand..

"We don't have to talk about it, Rae. If you don't want to. Let's get back to the school already, okay? Let's not risk getting your wound infected or anything." He looked at her and smiled warmly. He noticed that Corona was right. He had noticed some changes lately. He felt different around people with different personalities. Could he really detect how they felt simply by being near them?

With her good arm Rae grabbed the bottom of her shirt to dry her tears with. She then smiled back at Paul. "Uh, thanks." She began to walk again.

He walked along side her, not really sure what to say, or even if he should say anything at all. He was still curious about whatever it was she saw that caused such bad people to come after her. Would they suspect him now as well? With Lesset and his abominations after him, the last thing he needed was some thugs or whatever they were.

Rae turned to Paul. "You do know they're going to follow you now also, right? They won't try and kill you or anything like that, just follow you around and see if you know anything." She paused. "That's why I can't tell you what happened. Because if they find out you know anything, and I mean anything, they'll kill you." Right then she looked up and saw the academy off in the distance.

"Well.. they're going to kill you anyways... or at least try to. And if I'm around when that happens, I'll end up getting involved anyways. Is there really a reason not to tell me?" He saw her slightly different reaction when she looked up, so he did too and saw the school. Good thing they were going the right way, cause he wasn't really paying attention to where they were going.

Rae stared at him for a full minute before nodding. "Yes. I don't want you to die. And my way of helping that not to happen is to stay away from you and not tell you what I saw."

Rae sighed. He just wouldn't leave well enough alone, would he? But she knew that was just a cover-up thought. Maybe if I tell him it'll help me... Rae looked at him and said quickly, "I witnessed someone's death, alright?"
