Ava smirked triumphantly when she succeeded in throwing Kalvin, though the guy was able to stick the landing and actually land on his feet. Ava clicked her tongue a bit in frustration, but mostly was feeling satisfied with how she hadn't taken any hits and Kalvin had already taken two.
"I'm barely getting warmed up, don't sing my praises yet."
Ava said slightly arrogantly, she was a prideful creature, after all.

Kalvin was probably thinking as they spoke, trying to figure out how to gain the upper hand. Ava was counting on some creative strategies, Kalvin better not disappoint her.

"Princess? Oh, you got some nerve..."
Ava said slowly and her smirk turned a bit murderous. No one, not even Titus or Eein, called her anything like that and the name pissed Ava off. Kalvin was up for an ass beating of his life.
But though Ava was pissed now she didn't allow the anger to blind her. She had trained for this, it was one of her greatest weaknesses. Ava's reasoning weakened when she was angry and Ava was a little bit angry all the time.
"You want to see, huh? I'll show you, then."

Ava shifted her weight to the balls of her feet and bounced a little from side to side, her arms and shoulders loose and torso bit lowered. Her rhythm was irregular, hard to read. And following that pattern of remaining hard to read Ava dashed forward, skipping from side to side, not allowing any of her intent show in her movements.
Kind of like a wild beast, hunting its prey.
What Ava would try to do was get close, do a feint crouch and instead of attacking from below Ava would dash to the side and aim a swift and heavy kick to the side of Kalvin's knee. Ava was trying to make Kalvin buckle, so she could get a hold from around his neck with her arm and force him to kneel.

Kalvin knew that look. The guys he often fought in the cage sometimes gave him that look. Seeing a red-headed dragon girl do it somehow made the look seem less dangerous--which was a dangerous thought in itself. Kalvin readied himself for her dash. He's had at least enough experience to know that this kind of approach needed immense focus. Because she was coming in with no visible intent, he had to keep his mind quiet and his senses widely alert.

Ironically, he'd seen the Flash do that move tons in the comic books. And so, he reacted the best way he knew to grab her by surprise. He crouched low just as Ava went into a crouch, bearing his weight on the ground. He shot his fist forward to where her face would've been. When she moved to the side without warning, Kalvin's instincts kicked into gear and he brought up his arm to block her kick.

Since he was on heavy mode, he barely budged from his spot. Feeling her arm slithering around his neck, Kalvin tucked his chin before she could secure a choke. Then, he spun so that he was right under her. Kalvin then attempted to take a tight hold of the arm and spin, which would force Ava's body to follow her arm and onto the ground just underneath him. His weight increased as he held onto her arm, clipping her shoulder to the floor of the gym.

One other weakness of Ava's was that she had never really trained in formal martial arts, so she couldn't distinguish between the different tells of what move her opponent was going to attempt. But Ava usually covered for that with quick reflexes and she did the same this time around as well.

The moment Ava realized she wasn't going to get a chokehold in she let go, barely missing the hold Kalvin was trying to get from her arm. Instead Ava tried something new. Right before she let go of Kalvin's neck Ava wrapped her legs tightly around Kalvin's waist and then let her upper body fall backwards. Kalvin was in heavy mode and she couldn't get him to flip with just her legs around him. So Ava, using the flexibility she had obtained by her gymnastics training, bent her upper body backwards enough so she could reach Kalvin's ankles with her hands and then she just YANKED them backwards with all her strength, at the same time squeezing her legs even more around Kalvin. Ava was arching her body and squeezing her abs, trying to make sure that Kalvin couldn't wiggle too much. This should make him fall, or at least falter to Ava could get an opening.

Kalvin struggled and wriggled under Ava. He had to admit, she was strong. However, the thing about her position was that Kalvin's abilities gave him the upper hand. Kalvin let his body fall flat on the floor, his arms immediately clipping against his sides so Ava couldn't get her feet out from underneath him. He then began to shift his weight from heavy to crushing. He did his weight shift fairly slowly so he didn't hurt her, but not too slowly that she would have time to get out of it once she realized what he was doing. He placed his chin flat on the floor and took some time to pull his legs free from her hold, which were growing heavy with his body.

Kalvin managed to pin Ava's legs before she had time to pull them out, and she could feel him getting heavier. Ava grinned, she was ready to make this an endurance battle. She quickly snaked her free arm around Kalvin's neck before he could press his chin against the floor and pulled his upper body up, not managing to put him in a strangle hold. Ava's muscles were bulging as she held up Kalvin's increasing weight, but her hold didn't waiver.
"How about you say the magic words, Kal?"
Ava said next to Kal's ear, wicked grin on her face. She wanted Kalvin to say he gave up, that would be the most satisfying victory.

Kalvin gritted his teeth as Ava pulled his body up in a spine-crunching camel clutch. He groaned but held fast. He wasn't stretched back to the point of submission yet. Although, he had to say he was impressed that Ava had even seen that opening and took it.

He forced his chin down, pressing sharply against the bone of her forearm. He continued to push his weight down and become heavier, aiming to give her ankles some more pressure. Then, to give Ava something else to focus on, he pulled elbows up and dug them into her thighs, to that fleshy bit just above her knees. When she buckled from the pressure there, Kalvin took his chance to buck her off and scramble to his feet. It helped that his elbows were sharp from constant fighting and training too.

This fight would've been over in an instant if Ava would've used her partial shifting. She could've made her skin as hard as the hardest rock and she could shifted her wings and tail. She could've done so many things to make sure Kalvin was beaten to the ground.
But Ava couldn't do any of that, not without giving Kalvin the victory. And it was thrilling.

Ava's forearm was in pain, but she didn't show it and held on. Her broken bones healed is measly few days and she had experienced a pain lot worse than this. Ava's bone wasn't even close to breaking.
But before Ava's arm gave in her legs did. She cursed inside her mind, she hadn't paid enough attention and Kalvin was able to put pressure on Ava's legs when she didn't have her muscles tensed there. Kalvin was able to throw Ava off, but she did a backwards somersault and was quickly back on her feet.

"You've at least got few tricks up your sleeve."
Ava said and licked her upper lip, which had little sweat on it. She wasn't still all that tired, but was getting a workout.
"How does it feel to be pinned down by a little girl? How does it feel to be beaten by a princess?"
Ava said while grinning and, with her upper body lowered and feet light, began to slowly circle Kalvin, movements as unreadable as ever.

Taking advantage of the lull in the fight, Kalvin took his time to get his breathing even. He was a little winded, but Ava was such a great sparring partner that he couldn't help but enjoy it. He loved it. It felt like he was back in the mats again, training under a teacher, and improving his groundwork. In the back of his mind, he thought about how he missed his old life.

"Honestly, I'm impressed," Kalvin said with a shrug and a smirk. Then he did a so-so gesture and added, "Let's be honest though. Your technical game needs a little work." He then got ready, pulling into a defensive position and moving in time with Ava's circling. No way he was going to let her catch his back again. "But don't worry. We can fix that with a game of catch."

After a bit of their circling, Kalvin stepped forward once and crouched again. He pushed his feet back hard and took another big leap. This time, he aimed to go straight up, as high as he could in the gym. As he reached his apex, he let his weight go back to maximum again so his fall speed heightened, heading like a comet straight for Ava.

The plan was to get her to move out of the way. The moment she did, he would make himself as light as possible just before he hit the ground. In the split-second that he did, he'd do another powerjump in her direction and throw a kick at her.

Ava usually wasn't the best at taking criticism, even if it was useful and factual. But that was also one reason why she had made this club, to train herself to become better at accepting her flaws. And Kalvin's comment, although it pissed Ava off, was true. Her technical game did need work. And Ava was willing to accept it from someone who was almost a decade older than her and with more combat experience. Even a fool knew that no amount of raw talent or power was as valuable as experience.

Ava purposefully let Kalvin make the first move. Ava hadn't rushed him immediately after the last medley because she wanted to see what else he could come up with. And what the guy came up with was...interesting. Pretty basic use of his weight changing ability, but interesting.

Ava watched Kalvin reach his apex, and the moment he did she smirked, crouched down and jumped as well. Ava jumped almost, if not as, high as Kalvin using her strength. And when Ava got close enough she grabbed Kalvin mid-air as quickly as she could and yet again put her legs around him, attempting to pin his arms against his sides. Ava wrapped her other arm around Kalvin's neck yet again and her other arm around his forehead, so she could try and keep him from crushing her forearm with his chin again. So now Ava was basically wrapped around Kalvin mid-air while they were plummeting down. And Ava wanted to see what Kalvin would do about this.

Kalvin was surprised at the counter-attack Ava decided to take. He struggled in mid-air, immediately changing his weight to light so their descent wouldn't be as heavy. Still, a bowling ball and a feather technically would reach the ground at the same time. He struggled in mid-air and found no way out. With no ground to push against, he was in a secure hold with no way out. Kalvin braced for impact.

The duo reached the ground in a heavy smash, sending bits of dust in the air. Even with Ava's weight only bringing them down, gravity was a cruel force. Thankfully, he was hardy. Unfortunately, a straight facesmack to concrete from a height like that was like a kick in the gut and to the face. Kalvin groaned from the impact, now feeling the familiar pain of an 'ass-whooping'.
